Hearing this, Long Yong's expression instantly darkened. He probably didn't expect these two professors to say such things. They must have felt countless grievances in their hearts to allow their graduate students to act so unruly!
Rao Jie was also stunned, her rationality shattered into a mess in her mind. One of the graduate students spoke to Rao Jie and Long Yong in a sarcastic tone, saying, "Hmph, those who are clear will clear themselves. Those with real skills can go far anywhere, while those who take shortcuts will eventually face divine retribution. Do those who only seek to attract attention really think they are invincible? Hmph... It's truly foolish to be so arrogant and self-important at this moment without any humility."
In an instant, Rao Jie felt her nerves stretched to the limit, one after another snapping like twigs. The frustration that had lodged in her throat finally burst forth as she watched them prepare to leave after their verbal sparring.
"Professor Wu achieved his results and awards through his own strength; it has nothing to do with age or experience or the time spent. The results he produced are the most outstanding and useful; that is true strength, not something that can be enhanced by experience or research time!"
Rao Jie’s words were pointed, causing those around her to stop in their tracks and turn to look at her. However, Rao Jie was now nervously trembling uncontrollably. Her eyes were red, as if she were extremely wronged; despite angrily reprimanding them, she appeared like a victim from a weaker position.
"What did you say?" One of the tall figures stepped in front of Rao Jie with a fierce expression.
Rao Jie instinctively took half a step back but managed to hold her ground. Long Yong stepped forward to block the person and said, "Did my junior sister say something wrong?"
"Hmph, isn't she Professor Wu's assistant? It's understandable for a child to blindly defend her professor!" another graduate student remarked.
"I'm not!" Rao Jie mustered her courage and said, "I'm not Professor Wu's assistant; I was just brought along today to have some dessert."
The people around her were momentarily taken aback by this reason. However, Rao Jie spoke with utmost seriousness; her body still trembled slightly, unsure if it was from anger or fear. She reassured herself that since she wasn't developing within the Mathematics Community, it didn't matter if she offended someone and was talked about behind her back. Besides, she had no real connection with Wu Rong, so she wouldn't bring him any trouble.
"Hmph, since you're not even involved in mathematics, what right do you have to speak like this? Apologize!" someone shouted at Rao Jie.
Rao Jie gritted her teeth and glared back. "Then what right do you have to speak about Professor Wu? Let me ask you one question: Have you ever read Professor Wu's report?"
Her question left everyone momentarily speechless. Long Yong sneered and added, "It seems you either haven't read it or have read it but refuse to acknowledge that Professor Wu's work is based on genuine talent and hard work. If you insist on saying that Professor Wu's report is bad here, it only shows that some people lack the ability to study mathematics."
"Just because he's good doesn't mean our professor is bad! Our professor is clearly better! He has put in so much effort; why should the award go to Professor Wu? This is simply unfair!" someone retorted defensively.
