"Lu Chenyu," who had never known the taste of sorrow, had experienced what it meant to "forcefully express sorrow in new words" over the past six months. A sense of emptiness, as if all the essence of his soul had been drained, often struck him, making him realize how loneliness and longing could feel so isolating.
After chatting with his parents in the living room for a while, he retreated to his room, thinking that once his parents returned and relaxed, the atmosphere would quiet down and allow him to concentrate.

He gently bit his lower lip.
On the night after he filled out his college applications, which went against the promise he made with her, Lu Chenyu locked himself in his stuffy room and cried heartily. Since then, he had been too afraid to contact Lin Xi.
Yet, the more he hesitated to reach out to her, the more fear and cowardice grew within him.

Every midnight when he thought about losing her, Lu Chenyu's heart would inexplicably race with anxiety, as if he were alone in a bottomless black hole searching for an exit. The suffocating sensation made it hard for him to breathe, as if fate itself had gripped his throat.
Such emotions often struck him during quiet nights.
Suddenly, Lu Chenyu threw off the blanket, jumped out of bed, and walked to the living room.
In the soft glow of the floor lamp in the living room, his parents and grandparents were quietly chatting about trivial family matters.
"Dad, Mom, I want to go to Beijing tomorrow."
Lu Chenyu stood neatly in front of his parents in his pajamas.
His parents looked up at him as if they didn't recognize him.
They had never seen him stand before them so honestly, quietly, and neatly. The mischievous smile that used to adorn Lu Chenyu's face was gone.
He had become mature and steady, which was a good thing.
However, the brightness in his eyes had also faded; there seemed to be a hint of lingering sadness.
Growth always comes at the cost of sorrow.
Without any hesitation, his mother nodded and said, "Sure, since your dad and I will be home during the break, you can go visit your classmate in Beijing. Just know that tickets might be hard to get."
His mother understood Lu Chenyu's thoughts and had met Lin Xi, so she spoke plainly.
In contrast, Lu Chenyu felt a bit shy after his mother's straightforward words.
His mother smiled, finding it rare that her once naive son now knew how to feel shy.
"Go ahead, since you've decided to go to Beijing tomorrow, get some rest. If you're not afraid of the hassle, I can try to get you a standing ticket tomorrow. If that doesn't work out, we can buy a ticket for the day after. Your dad and I will be home for a while, so I promise you'll have a good time in Beijing," his mother assured Lu Chenyu with a smile.
Lu Chenyu felt even more embarrassed and scratched the back of his head, chuckling lightly.
"Go to bed; I'll handle the ticket arrangements," his father finally spoke up after sitting silently on the sofa.
After nodding in agreement, Lu Chenyu returned to his room to sleep peacefully.
The night passed without incident. The next morning, as soon as Lu Chenyu got up, his mother handed him a train ticket to Beijing.
"Son, go ahead. It's worth it to strive for your love. Although it's a standing ticket, it will test your determination. Love makes one willing to endure hardships; I pursued your mother in the same way," his father said with a pat on his shoulder as he sent Lu Chenyu into the station.
With high spirits, Lu Chenyu waved goodbye to his father and confidently boarded the train from Provincial Capital to Beijing.
So when he stood under Lin Xi's dormitory building, he was already exhausted but filled with warmth inside.
"Oh, is that Lin Xi?" A young lady scrutinized Lu Chenyu's face peeking through the window of the Conveyance Room for a long time before casually asking, "Are you from out of town? Who is Lin Xi?"
The young aunt was well aware of the comings and goings of the girls from the Girls' Dormitory, so she loved gossiping about their boyfriends and similar topics. Recently, she had noticed a boy waiting downstairs for Lin Xi every day, and this morning she even saw them studying together, which piqued her curiosity about Lu Chenyu's identity.
Lu Chenyu smiled, revealing a row of neat white teeth, and his youthful good looks made the impending gloomy weather seem particularly bright.
"Yes, I am Lin Xi's classmate," Lu Yuchen said, still wearing a charming smile.
The young aunt was taken aback by his sunny smile for a few seconds.
"Oh, a classmate?" Her expression showed a hint of regret, but also a trace of relief.
"No one has responded after calling for so long; she must not be in the dormitory. I saw her leave this morning. You might want to check the library or just wait here for her to come back. But once she returns, it's uncertain; she might head straight to the cafeteria for a meal before going back to study," the aunt said warmly as she put down her water bottle.
The aunties in the Conveyance Room were well aware of the movements and routines of several notable girls in that particular Girls' Dormitory.

First, they must be beautiful; second, they should have talent, such as being able to sing, dance, or write. These girls often caused trouble for the aunties but were also somewhat favored by them at times.
This was because the boys waiting downstairs for these girls would often bring snacks to bribe them. Moreover, without these beautiful or talented girls attracting attention, the area in front of the dormitory would be quite desolate, lacking gossip news, making the aunties' lives seem monotonous and dull.
Thus, girls like Lin Xi, who were both beautiful and talented, had long been categorized by the aunties as troublesome yet interesting individuals.
