Qinglan looked out the window and indeed saw a cozy little station illuminated by a faint orange light, with sparse figures moving about outside. The cold mist surrounded the light, adding a hazy quality to its dim glow, creating a sense of detachment and tranquility away from the hustle and bustle in the deep night.
Inside the train, however, there was still a restless noise; it was not quiet at all. Everyone seemed drowsy, their murmurs blending into a soft, dreamlike babble that floated around the cabin.
But outside the train window was a scene of serene stillness.
After a while, a layer of condensation formed on the glass, blurring the view outside and confirming that the air was quite cold.
Inside the train, it was both hot and cold.
The warm air from the air conditioning made the faces of those inside feel warm, yet the cold air outside seeped through the metal walls of the carriage, making them feel chilled.
Just waking up, Qinglan felt a shiver run through her body and instinctively hugged herself tighter.
"Is it very cold?" Jian Ming asked.
Qinglan nodded and replied, "Yeah, a bit. Why is it still so cold even with the air conditioning on?"
Jian Ming was about to take off his coat to give it to Qinglan.
"Just draping it over your lower body will help; it's mainly my legs and feet that are cold," Jian Ming said.
Qinglan declined firmly, insisting she didn't want Jian Ming's clothes. "That won't do; besides, you're only wearing a sweater, so you must be cold too."
Qinglan then stood up to get her own clothes from her bag.
Jian Ming came over to help.
Seeing Jian Ming come to help Qinglan with her bag, An Shaojie also stood up to assist Jian Ming. However, after searching for a long time in the back, they could not find Qinglan's bag.
An Shaojie quickly took off his own bag, unzipped it, and pulled out a piece of Cotton Clothes, tossing it onto Qinglan.
Jian Ming and Simple exchanged confused glances, unsure of what was happening.
Qinglan looked at the clothes thrown on her and couldn't help but laugh and cry at the same time.
"Put it on," Jian Ming said.
Well, since it was like that, Qinglan didn't refuse. She followed Jian Ming's words and put it on. It wasn't like she had never worn his clothes before when they were kids; who was afraid of whom?
After getting off the train, Qinglan was worried about one thing: if Jian Ming and Simple went back to their respective schools, would she and An Shaojie go their separate ways or stick together?
She found it hard to decide. Of course, this was something An Shaojie wouldn't let her choose; she just didn't know what kind of decision he would make.
So as soon as they stepped off the platform, Qinglan appeared hesitant, dragging her bag and moving forward weakly.
"Qinglan's bag is too heavy; An Shaojie can't carry it alone. How about I take you both back to school first with Simple, and then we can return to our school?" Jian Ming suggested.
"Sounds good! This way I can go visit Brother Shaojie, and I want him to treat me to breakfast at their cafeteria; their breakfast is really delicious," Simple immediately chimed in, applauding Jian Ming's suggestion.
Sigh! That's just how Jian Ming is—always considering things so thoroughly that Qinglan couldn't help but admire him.
After stepping out of the station, the air outside was even colder, and it was early morning. Qinglan originally thought about taking off An Shaojie's clothes to give them back to him.
But then she wondered if that would be a bit too sentimental. Besides, even if she wanted to return the clothes, Jian Ming would definitely disagree and insist on refusing. With that in mind, she decided against it and simply wore his clothes back to school, returning to the dormitory.
Qinglan thought she had arrived early and that there wouldn't be anyone in the dormitory. However, when she reached the door, she found it wide open, and the room had been tidied up neatly.
"Hey, is it Mengmeng or Jiao'er who came?" Qinglan muttered to herself as she pushed the door open.
To her surprise, Jiang Liuying was sitting on the bed, completely still.
"Liuying, why are you here so early?" Qinglan exclaimed in shock.
This was surprising because Jiang Liuying was the only one in the dormitory who never arrived at school early and always came last on the final day of the semester, especially after winter break. She didn't like the cold northern weather, so she rarely showed up early.
"Why are you here so early?" Liuying countered with a question.
"I have special circumstances," Qinglan said while moving things inside.
Liuying came over to help her and said, "I have special circumstances too."
"Oh? You have special circumstances as well?" Qinglan panted as she and Liuying struggled with the bags.
"Yeah," Jiang Liuying replied while helping Qinglan with her things.
Qinglan looked up at Jiang Liuying and noticed something was off; there was an unmistakable joy in her expression that she couldn't hide.
"Um? What special situation do you have? Could it be that you came with Mosen?" Qinglan asked.
Qinglan speculated this way because she had previously been predicted to be the first in the dormitory to fall in love. However, the outcome turned out to be quite the opposite, as both she and Mosen were not very proactive in their personalities. In the end, her romantic involvement fell behind Hu Jiao'er and Shen Xiaomeng.
Jiang Liuying smiled sweetly like a little woman and nodded, saying, "Yes, I came here with him."
"Really? Is there progress?" Qinglan stood beside Jiang Liuying at the desk while Liuying helped Qinglan organize the books she had brought from home.
Jiang Liuying smiled without answering. After a while, she said, "You should come eat dinner with us tonight."
"With you guys? You and Mosen? Why?"
Qinglan thought about An Shaojie, who had come to school with her. Since school hadn't started yet and the cafeteria wasn't serving food, he would probably be eating alone too. Where would he go to eat? Would he feel lonely eating by himself?
While Qinglan was lost in thought about An Shaojie, Jiang Liuying suddenly exclaimed as if she had discovered something new, "Hey! Lanlan, your so-called special situation wouldn’t also involve a situation, would it?"
Jiang Liuying's eyes were fixed on a boy's jacket draped over Qinglan's bed frame. This jacket was new clothing that An Shaojie had bought during the New Year and had not worn at school; naturally, Jiang Liuying did not recognize it as belonging to anyone.
At that moment, Jiang Liuying was helping Qinglan make her bed and hang up the mosquito net. She casually picked up the jacket to examine it, saying, "Looking at the quality of this jacket, it shouldn't belong to Xu Wen. Could there be a new situation? Is it possible that it's from that class monitor An Shaojie who always seems to dislike you?"
Qinglan snatched the jacket from Jiang Liuying's hands and said unhappily, "Is this jacket of poor quality? As long as a person is handsome, they look good in anything. Besides, Xu Wen isn't someone who cares much about what he wears; sometimes he dresses very ordinarily. He looks good even in plain clothes." Qinglan pouted as she defended An Shaojie while also standing up for Xu Wen. "Alright." Jiang Liuying touched Qinglan's face and said in a half-teasing, half-comforting tone, "Your Xu Wen is the most handsome of all. Oh! No wait, that's wrong; Xu Wen is the most handsome. What about the other person then? It should be Xu Wen is the most handsome, and An Shaojie is the coolest, okay?"
