Qinglan and Liu Xiuzhen chatted back and forth while watering the plants.
Meanwhile, Bai Cuifen walked past Qinglan and the others with An Shaojie and scolded him for being rude.
"She's an elder; it's only proper for juniors to give way and greet her," Bai Cuifen reprimanded An Shaojie. The "she" she referred to was, of course, Liu Xiuzhen.
An Shaojie stubbornly retorted, "Does she even know she's an elder?"
"How could she not know?" Bai Cuifen asked.
An Shaojie scoffed, "Did the things she said to you and me sound like something an elder would say?"
"What did she say to you?" Bai Cuifen asked loudly. "Isn't it normal for an elder to scold a junior?"
"And what about when she scolded you?" An Shaojie countered.
"That was a misunderstanding!" Bai Cuifen defended Liu Xiuzhen.
An Shaojie smirked disdainfully. "Misunderstanding? I can't agree with that. She has misunderstood too many people; isn't she always going off on someone?"
"Since you know she's like that, you shouldn't hold it against her. Have you seen anyone else hold it against her?" Bai Cuifen said. "You're just a kid without much experience; you'll understand later that people who are outwardly brash and speak without restraint often don't have truly bad intentions."
An Shaojie continued to smile disdainfully.
"You and your Sister were both delivered and raised by her when you were young, along with your Uncle Qing Shusheng. They have done a lot for our family. Later, there were misunderstandings, instigated by some ill-intentioned people in the village. Your aunt is straightforward, so she reacted that way. Besides, as a woman, her reaction is understandable; it shows she truly loves your Uncle Qing Shusheng."
"And 'your aunt' and 'your Uncle Qing Shusheng' too," An Shaojie scoffed.
Bai Cuifen scolded, "You child."
After a pause, Bai Cuifen continued, "Look how sensible Lanlan is; no matter how you treat her, she still regards me and you with the same affection as when she was little."
Speaking of Qinglan, Bai Cuifen began to nag again, "About you and Lanlan, I warn you once more to take it seriously. If you ever wrong her in the future, I will not let you off easily."
An Shaojie lowered his head and remained silent.
Every time Bai Cuifen brought up his relationship with Qinglan, An Shaojie would respond with this attitude towards her, leaving Bai Cuifen still unsure of his feelings.
Regarding An Shaojie and Qinglan, Bai Cuifen had asked him many times at home whether his feelings for Qinglan were genuine or not. Previously, she knew An Shaojie had been waiting for Lin Xi, and now he suddenly seemed to be involved with Qinglan. She felt uneasy about An Shaojie's sudden change, just like Liu Xiuzhen and Qing Shusheng.
"Her Brother's matters are his own; Lanlan is Lanlan. If you blame her for her Brother's issues, I will not agree with you," Bai Cuifen warned An Shaojie.
"If you truly like Lanlan, that would be best. She is more than enough for you; I have watched her grow up. She is a child of great character who has only ever had you in her heart. If you are fickle or unfaithful, don't come back to Liu Family Village or call me mother; I would be too ashamed," Bai Cuifen said.
An Shaojie remained silent, giving Bai Cuifen no information.
"When you were so young, your Father left us. As orphans and widows, we relied on Lanlan's Father and her Grandfather to support us. We cannot repay their kindness but must absolutely not complain," Bai Cuifen said earnestly.
Originally, Qing Shusheng had been thinking about finding a good time to talk to Qinglan about her relationship with An Shaojie. Later, in mid-August, he went to Shenzhen with Liu Jiawei to look at wooden and bamboo furniture and confirm the school opening arrangements.
During this trip, they unexpectedly ran into An Shaomin on the street, not just her but also Jian Ming beside her.
It was lunchtime when An Shaomin insisted on treating Qing Shusheng and Liu Jiawei to a meal.

After returning from Shenzhen, Qing Shusheng was busy trying to finish these farm chores, not only for his own family but also helping out silently with Bai Cuifen's family.
By the time he could finally relax, both Qinglan and Liu Jiawei had already gone to school.
After the school term started, Qinglan moved into an off-campus rental with An Shaojie. However, to avoid drawing attention from the school, Qinglan would return to the dormitory every night to sleep because the school enforced strict checks at night and did not allow couples to rent off-campus housing. In this regard, An Shaojie was very cautious and reminded Qinglan every day to return to the dormitory on time.
What surprised her roommates was that since the start of the term, Shen Xiaomeng had been gloomy.
Logically speaking, after Hao Chuanze took her home to meet his parents, she should have been very happy upon returning to school. Could it be that his parents were dissatisfied?
