Lin Xi started teasing Xu Wen, and Qinglan quickly chimed in, "After spending so much time with us commoners, you've picked up a bit of the common flavor."
Now, Qinglan was responding naturally in front of Xu Wen, chatting and laughing like old friends.
Xu Wen pointed at Qinglan and laughed heartily, "Aren't you the one who claims to be above worldly affairs? I see you're just adding fuel to the fire. How come you don't realize that after spending so much time with me, your air of nobility has become even more pronounced?"
"Alright, alright, I haven't spent that much time with you. I've only had a few meals with you; it's Lanlan who's been around you longer." As soon as Xu Wen finished speaking, Lin Xi interrupted.
Looking at Qinglan in her black wool coat, black-and-white blended turtleneck sweater, and a casually draped bright red scarf under her coat collar, paired with tight black pants that hugged her long legs, her fair skin and long hair flowing over her shoulders in the wind, she resembled a delicate lily—noble and elegant. She had long shed the innocence and clumsiness from when she first arrived in Beijing City and had blossomed into a graceful girl exuding maturity and intellect.
Lin Xi had indeed not changed much; she still had the same full face and rounded figure as when she first arrived. Her skin was as smooth as cream, but her previous doll-like hairstyle had been replaced by soft waves cascading down her shoulders. She wore a beige down jacket, short boots, and a loosely draped cotton scarf around her neck that made her appear more mature yet approachable. Her smile remained warm, though occasionally a hint of melancholy would surface when she lowered her gaze.
During dinner, Xu Wen tentatively asked Qinglan, "Qinglan, are you planning to study abroad?"
"Study abroad?"
This question had never crossed Qinglan's mind. What kind of family background would lead someone to consider such a thing? The issues surrounding overseas connections and guarantors were daunting enough, not to mention the various procedures needed before going abroad and the living expenses afterward. Just the thought of being away from family made Qinglan feel reluctant.
Qinglan shook her head repeatedly. "No, no, no. I have no plans for that. Studying Astrophysics for four years in college is already exhausting; studying it abroad would be unbearable. I want to start working soon to earn money so my mother and father can have it a bit easier."
"What about An Shaojie? Does he have any plans in that regard?" Xu Wen continued to ask.
"An Shaojie studying abroad?" Qinglan seemed to find this amusing. "He mentioned during a themed class meeting at the start of the semester that he wants to graduate early to make money. How could he possibly think about studying abroad? He's too stubborn to change his mind! Besides, his family has even less ability to go abroad than ours; how could he manage it?" Qinglan appeared quite confident in her assessment.
"But people can always change their minds, and conditions can be created," Xu Wen replied.
"That's impossible," Qinglan insisted on her stance.
Lin Xi glanced between Xu Wen and Qinglan. She found it strange that Xu Wen seemed so concerned about An Shaojie and Qinglan's plans to go abroad today.
"Why are you all so eager to go abroad? Recently, Su Hailu has been talking nonstop about going abroad. Even when we have a meal together, that's all he discusses. Xu Wen, aren't you going abroad too?" Lin Xi thought Xu Wen was testing Qinglan's feelings for him.
"Me?" Xu Wen pointed at himself.
"I have the same thoughts as Qinglan," Xu Wen added.
"You can't possibly have the same thoughts as me," Qinglan immediately corrected him. "You have the means to go abroad."
"My desire not to go abroad is the same as yours," Xu Wen quickly explained.
Lin Xi looked up and teased with a laugh, "I finally understand what Xu Wen means; wherever Lanlan goes, he goes too."
It had been a while since Lin Xi saw Qinglan with An Shaojie, and she hadn't heard Qinglan mention him. Although Qinglan had previously told her that after they had an argument, An Shaojie went missing, Lin Xi shared Xu Wen's view that their trivial couple quarrels wouldn't affect a normal relationship.
However, they didn't know that during Qinglan's recounting of the argument, she deliberately omitted the part where An Shaojie slapped her in order to protect his image.
Thus, Lin Xi believed that a couple without serious issues who hadn't seen each other for a long time and hadn't been mentioned meant their feelings had faded. It seemed that Qinglan wasn't suffering either. Moreover, after An Shaojie's disappearance, Xu Wen appeared at just the right time. Since Lin Xi had previously dated Xu Wen, she concluded that Qinglan must have made a new choice.
This choice happened to align with what Lin Xi currently agreed with.
Therefore, Lin Xi now openly joked about Qinglan and Xu Wen.
As for An Shaojie, after a long period of longing and missing each other following their childhood separation, their reunion left behind a sense of calmness. The accumulated feelings had softened, leaving only a slightly deeper affection than that of friends in their hearts. Moreover, the long separation meant that they had both experienced so much in their own lives that they remained unfamiliar with each other. In Lin Xi's heart, the memories An Shaojie left her were truly very few.
"But Qinglan doesn't think so..." Xu Wen said with a sigh, feeling somewhat melancholic.
What Xu Wen meant was that wherever Qinglan needed to go, An Shaojie would follow. Both Qinglan and Lin Xi understood this.
For a moment, the three of them fell silent.
During dinner, Qinglan and Lin Xi did not ask Xu Wen to take them back to their dormitory, so Xu Wen went home directly.
The next day, when Qinglan and Lin Xi returned home, Jiang Liuying and Xu Wen accompanied them to the train station.
After returning to school from the station, Jiang Liuying went straight to Mosen's place.
Mosen's current campus was several subway stops away from the main campus. Over the past few days, she had already helped him move his things, but his dormitory still needed some tidying up.
In Mosen's dormitory, while Jiang Liuying helped him organize his belongings, she said, "It's so far away; we won't be able to see each other often anymore."
Mosen sat nearby watching Jiang Liuying tidy up like a diligent woman, a proud and satisfied smile on his face.
"Come help me," Jiang Liuying called Mosen over as she was hanging up the mosquito net. Mosen walked over and suddenly hugged her waist from behind, leaning his face close to hers with a mischievous grin. "Did you just say we won't be able to see each other often anymore?" Jiang Liuying pushed his face away and pried his hands apart, laughing. "Ah, it's so far; who would want to run back and forth? Anyway, I won't come this far just to see you."
