Not only did Qinglan scold Lin Xi, but even Jiang Liuying berated her as well. Lin Xi listened quietly, and after being scolded, she felt much calmer and relieved. She hoped Lu Chenyu would also scold her, but since the day they met, he had hardly ever been angry with her, let alone scold her or lose his temper. That day, hearing his breathing and voice over the phone made it clear that he was very angry, yet he still didn't say much in anger. When he hung up, it was clear he didn't want to hear what she had to say next. 0

Yes, she had prepared a whole bunch of sharp-tongued remarks to throw at him, ready to overwhelm him with her momentum. 0

Even if they were to break up, those two words could not come from him; they had to come from her for her to feel like a winner. 0

She loved him so much that she didn't want to be defeated by him or let him see her miserable failure in love. 0

However, after she uttered the words "break up," she felt no sense of victory at all. Instead, her heart felt heavy and painful, aching again and again. The words "break up" were something she would never willingly say, even if forced at gunpoint. She had told herself that unless he said it first, she would never utter those words. Yet she ended up saying them before he could. 0

Now, after being harshly criticized in turn by Qinglan and Jiang Liuying, she calmed down and reflected on her actions. She realized that her behavior was somewhat childish and couldn't help but smile. 0

"You can still laugh?" Qinglan and Jiang Liuying said almost simultaneously. 0

For Lin Xi, although she had written a breakup letter to Lu Chenyu out of spite, she didn't think it was a big deal. She had said similar things to him many times before, and in the end, they would always have a cold war for a few days before Lu Chenyu would take the initiative to call her and make up, compromising with her. 0

This time was just another small seasoning in the flavor of their relationship. Lin Xi thought that in a few days, Lu Chenyu would call her like before, apologize, say some sweet words, and they would be back to normal. 0

This is the advantage of youth and a common trait among young people: seeing everything with optimism. Young and beautiful Lin Xi was no exception; she believed life would always follow the trajectory she imagined. Little did she know that words once spoken are like water spilled; they cannot be taken back—especially hurtful words. Not every mistake has a chance for forgiveness; some people and things are lost forever once gone. Not every turn can lead back. 0

When she thought tomorrow's sun would rise as usual and that Lu Chenyu, who loved her deeply just as she loved him, would call her in the morning to tell her how much he loved her, 0

she did not realize that afterward, Lu Chenyu would never have the chance to contact her again and would disappear from her world entirely. That phone call turned out to be their last conversation. 0

Time is like a giant hourglass, unintentionally shaking and spilling days into the river of time, flowing away with youthful hearts. 0

In the blink of an eye, it was time to graduate and leave school. 0

Simple came to Qinglan School to find her. She was in the study room, reading and preparing for her exams. Simple stood behind her, watching her smile, while Qinglan, too engrossed in her studies, remained unaware that a living person was standing right behind her—someone who was holding their breath and stifling laughter. 0

Simple, being straightforward, couldn't stand that Qinglan hadn't noticed her for so long. She raised her hand and tapped Qinglan on the shoulder, startling her into turning around with a gasp. Clutching her chest, she exclaimed in a hushed voice, "You little rascal! When did you get here? You didn't say a word and scared me half to death." 0

"What ghost could there be in broad daylight?" Simple retorted. "You were so absorbed in your reading that I stood behind you for ages without you noticing. You're really slow to react." 0

"Just because you didn't notice me doesn't mean you couldn't make a sound! Why did you have to sneak up on me like that?" 0

"I wasn't sneaking up on you; I just made a sound! Who knew you'd get this scared?" Simple argued defiantly. 0

"Alright then, if you're here suddenly, does that mean something good is happening? Are you treating me to dinner?" Qinglan asked as she closed her book. 0

Simple proudly waved a colorful piece of paper in her hand. "Dinner is easy to arrange; I'm treating you tonight." "What is that?" Qinglan asked, looking at the paper she held high. "It can't be...?" Simple nodded and said, "Yes, it's a job offer. I signed with a foreign-funded enterprise in Beijing. What do you think?" Simple raised her other hand and flicked the paper with her finger before making a kissing gesture. 0

"Really?" Qinglan exclaimed excitedly as she stood up from her seat and took the paper from Simple's hand, examining it closely as if it were not just a piece of paper but a work of art or a precious photograph, her eyes shining with surprise and admiration. 0

"Yes!" Simple nodded vigorously, standing on tiptoe with pride as she looked at Qinglan. 0

"Great! Finally, there's a reward for your hard work. You've grown up and are starting to support yourself." After studying the ordinary piece of paper for a long time, Qinglan finally returned it to Simple. 0
Simple carefully folded the employment agreement and put it into her bag. 0

"What about Chen Yang?" Qinglan asked. 0

Simple took Qinglan's hand and said, "Come on, let's talk outside." 0

Qinglan replied, "Okay, wait for me a moment." She then tidied up the items on the table. 0

They sat down on a patch of grass on campus, and Simple began to share her experiences of job hunting during this time, recounting various awkward moments, pitfalls, and funny anecdotes. 0

"At least finally signing a contract is something good; I’ll consider the earlier experiences as lessons learned," Qinglan said. 0

"Yeah, my dream was to come to Beijing, and now I can finally settle here. I look forward to one day having my own little space in Beijing City, with my light shining among the thousands of lights," Simple said with deep emotion. 0

"Exactly, we all came here with dreams, and of course, we don’t want to return empty-handed and disappointed," Qinglan echoed with a sense of empathy. 0

"Oh, what about Chen Yang?" Qinglan recalled the previous topic and asked again. "He said he would come to Beijing after graduation; right now he is preparing for his postgraduate entrance exams at a school in Beijing," Simple replied. "That's great; I'm happy for you," Qinglan said sincerely, looking at Simple with genuine eyes. The sincere tone suddenly shifted the atmosphere into a serious one. 0
