Guo Naidong stared at me blankly, a hint of hurt flashing in his eyes.
"Jingjing..."
I took a deep breath to calm myself.
"Guo Naidong, it's impossible for us."
"I once needed your love so much, but now I don't need it anymore."
"I don't need you, do you understand?"
Guo Naidong clenched his jaw, his eyes reddening as he said, "I understand, but I don't want to let you go."
"Jingjing, please give me another chance."
I shook my head, unable to stop the pain in my heart.
I thought back to the relationship I had with Guo Naidong.
At that time, out of possessiveness, I forced myself to be understanding, playing the role of a sensible and quiet fiancée.
I thought I could endure a life without love until I met Gao Huaizhong.
That's when I realized I could have pure and complete love.
It was then that I understood what I had previously thought was "coming to terms" was merely the inability to break free from the shackles imposed by fate.
I lowered my gaze and softly said, "Guo Naidong, it's really impossible for us."
"I once thought I couldn't live without you until I met the right person."
"Now, I don't want to deceive myself anymore."
"Guo Naidong, it's truly impossible for us."
Guo Naidong's eyes were red, a flicker of hurt crossing them.
"Jingjing, I really know I've made mistakes. Please give me another chance."
"It's my fault; I didn't take good care of you."
"As long as you're willing, we can start over."
I shook my head, my heart as calm as water.
"Guo Naidong, there is no second Hao Jing in this world, nor is there a second Xiao Baozhu."
"We can never go back to how things were between us."
Upon hearing this, Guo Naidong stiffened, then squatted down and covered his face, crying in pain.
I didn't look at him again and turned to walk towards the room.
Back in the room, I closed the door and leaned against it wearily.
Gao Huaizhong came out of the bathroom, a towel wrapped around his waist.
He wiped the water droplets from his head and asked in confusion, "What's wrong?"
I shook my head and forced a smile at him.
"Nothing."
Gao Huaizhong raised an eyebrow, walked up to me, and pinched my cheek.
"Not happy?"
"Not really."
I smiled and wrapped my arms around his neck, giving him a quick kiss on the cheek.
"I was just reflecting on how full of surprises life is."
"I remembered the first time I met Guo Naidong."
Gao Huaizhong's eyes flashed with curiosity upon hearing this.
He pulled me down onto the sofa and poured me a glass of red wine.
"Tell me about it."
I took the wine glass and sipped the red wine.
"When I was ten years old, both my parents passed away.
"My uncle and aunt came to collect debts from me, forcing me to sell our house.
"That day, it was drizzling outside; I knelt on the ground begging them.
"But no matter how much I pleaded, they wouldn't let me go."
"Just when I was about to give up, an umbrella appeared above my head.
"I looked up and saw a handsome young man.
"He asked me if my surname was Hao and if my name was Hao Jing.
"I nodded, and he handed me a letter and a jade pendant.
"He said this was something my father had asked him to bring to me.
"He also told me he would take me back to Xingcheng."
I paused, my eyes slightly moist.
Gao Huaizhong reached out his hand to wipe away the tears at the corner of my eye.
I sniffed and continued, "At that time, I had a deep impression of the name Gao Huaizhong.
"I thought that when I grew up, I would definitely repay him well.
"But unexpectedly, when I turned twenty, I met Guo Naidong again.
"I ran into him and his friends in the basement.
"They were starting a business and needed someone to do the artwork.
"I proactively offered my sketches and helped them design the game cover."
