Feng Ning paused for a moment. Jiang Wen was clearly eighty percent drunk; otherwise, he wouldn't be saying such things. She nodded in response, "You have quite a strong sense of revenge, so why don't you hit back?" She leaned slightly to the side, deliberately bringing her face closer, "If you have the ability, go ahead and hit me."
Jiang Wen really did have the ability. He finally released his grip on her and raised his hand slightly, pretending to slap her.
Feng Ning was not afraid at all. Just as his hand was about to reach her face, he suddenly slowed down. She was about to mock Jiang Wen when he unexpectedly changed his move, pinching her cheeks with one hand and squeezing them inward.
They stared at each other for several seconds. Feng Ning squinted her eyes, neither dodging nor flinching, watching him lose control.
Because of this action, their distance was drawn very close.
Some pretended to be drunk while others acted sober.
It seemed that all the ambiguities arising from alcohol were forgivable and acceptable.
Jiang Wen's gaze was fixed on her. As he leaned in closer, he distractedly glanced down at her lips, which were pouting and stained red from chili. He suddenly stopped, his eyelashes fluttering.
Finally, as if he had made a decision, he leaned forward slightly when suddenly a pair of hands covered his eyes.
Jiang Wen's movement came to an abrupt halt.
Feng Ning shook her head and easily broke free from his grip, stepping back a little.
Jiang Wen was already weak; his hands drooped limply as he leaned against the back of the seat at an angle.
He obediently let her turn his world into darkness.
"You've had too much to drink," she said calmly.
"Yeah."
Just a couple of days ago, they had parted on bad terms; neither had forgotten. Feng Ning never regretted her decisions, so regardless of whether he was truly drunk or not, she cut straight to the point: "I gave you two choices. Now that you're getting handsy with me, have you made up your mind?"
The hand covering his eyes was pulled away.
When Jiang Wen was annoyed, his eyes shone brightly, captivating. "The one who liked first deserves it, right?"
He was heavily intoxicated, uttering such a youthful line. Feng Ning self-deprecatingly thought that it seemed she couldn't escape playing out a painful youth idol drama.
She played along with him: "Yes, you deserve it."
The male lead of the idol drama was indeed quite drunk, numbing himself with alcohol. He completely let go of his restraint and slurred his words, asking the female lead, "What should I do? You tell me."
The female lead replied without understanding the mood: "Just chill."
Tilting her head, she continued, "I'll tell you a method that will never be rejected."
"Yeah? What is it?"
"Never confess your feelings."
Knowing she was joking, Jiang Wen still felt a bit sad. He stubbornly asked, "Is it that hard to be with me?"
Feng Ning smiled and said, "It’s an honor to be liked by you."
"I’ve secretly felt proud of that, but we’re just not suitable. At least for now, we’re not suitable."
She wasn't lacking in self-esteem, but in terms of reality and various conditions, they indeed had too much of a gap.
Cinderella's fairy tale is written on paper, while reality is always messy.
His gaze fixed on Feng Ning's face, but it seemed Jiang Wen could no longer understand what she was saying. His eyelids felt heavy as lead, and he finally collapsed onto her.
Feng Ning's hand paused in mid-air; she ultimately didn’t push him away. After a long moment, she gently patted Jiang Wen's back.
His head rested on her shoulder, his lips almost touching her neck. He exhaled a hot breath that quickly bounced back, making his mind grow increasingly hazy.
The two of them maintained their position, motionless, without saying a word.
When Jiang Wen fell into a deep sleep, Feng Ning gently said, "Let's just be friends. It started too early, and it will end early too."
Someone lifted the curtain and entered. She looked up to see Xi Gaoyuan and his girlfriend.
Seeing them leaning against each other, Lin Ru was momentarily stunned. Xi Gaoyuan asked, "Did he drink too much again?"
Feng Ning nodded and gently adjusted Jiang Wen's body so that he lay on the table. She stood up and took Shuang Yao's bag. "I'm leaving now; take care of him."
Xi Gaoyuan glanced at Jiang Wen and sat down beside him. Footsteps echoed in and out as people came and went.
After an unknown amount of time, Jiang Wen opened his eyes, which were already red.
The shop was nearing closing time, and the mall downstairs played lazy love songs.
If this is the only ending we can have, then I wish you had never appeared.
He brought his phone to his face and slowly typed out a line of text.
- Alright, let's be friends.
