The proposal from Mu Miaomiao was exactly what I wanted, but deep down, all I wanted was to return home. Yet the problem loomed large between Wang Xu and me. What should I do... how should I handle this...
"But Deng Xiaomei has a child now. What can I do? If anything happens to that child, my mother-in-law will surely hate me." Both my mother-in-law, who longs for grandchildren, and I, who cannot have children, were at a loss for words.
"Think of it differently, Zhuang Jun. You should confront Wang Xu and let him figure it out," Mu Miaomiao said as she pulled out a cigarette, lit it, took a deep drag, and exhaled smoke rings. "The child shouldn't have come into this world in the first place, right?"
Yes, it shouldn't have come, but it did, and everything changed.
Upon entering Prosperity, I saw over a dozen old classmates. Fortunately, they hadn't changed much; the atmosphere was lively. My once-cold heart warmed a little as everyone greeted me warmly, chatting about trivial matters and complimenting the diamond on my ring, which was as big as an egg.
These were just friendly jabs among old classmates, yet they felt like a thorn in my side during these past few days, painfully lodged in my heart.
At the reunion, drinking was inevitable. Mu Miaomiao grabbed a large cup and filled it for me before handing it over. I raised it to my lips and gulped it down.
The liquid coursed down my throat; swallowing it felt like fire burning from my throat to my stomach. For the sake of this family and my pregnancy, I had abstained from alcohol for nearly three years, only to end up in this embarrassing state.
The classmates around me were unaware of my situation and were happily inviting each other to drink. The atmosphere was harmonious. With a mix of whiskey and beer flowing around me, I quickly went from slightly tipsy to dizzy, losing track of my surroundings.
Mu Miaomiao was also getting into the spirit of things, standing on the soft leather sofa with a microphone in hand, energizing the crowd even more. My pent-up frustrations began to dissipate as I joined everyone in laughter.
However, I hadn't drunk in so long that suddenly consuming so much made my throat and stomach feel like they were on fire. I stumbled toward the restroom in the private room but couldn't open the door. My discomfort grew worse; I needed... the restroom...
I had no choice but to navigate past my partying classmates toward the exit, limping like someone with mobility issues. My mind was hazy as I walked out; all I could think about was finding the restroom.
I couldn't distinguish between the different rooms even when I was sober, let alone now. I was feeling dizzy and desperately searching for the restroom, but I couldn't find it anywhere. The crowd around me was bustling, and the loud music made it even harder to concentrate. I was about to burst...
After standing for too long, I could barely keep my balance. Just as I felt myself about to fall, I reached out and grabbed the collar of the person in front of me. However, my grip was too weak, and I slipped off. I thought for sure I would hit the ground, but surprisingly, the person whose shirt I had pulled placed a hand on my back and lifted me up again.
Because of this, I didn't embarrass myself in such a high-end place like Prosperity. However, the ups and downs only made my head feel heavier. In that moment, my stomach churned violently, and I suddenly threw up.
Time felt suspended; it wasn't too long or too short. After emptying my stomach, I coughed until tears streamed down my face, but I felt much better in my stomach and my mind cleared up a bit.
"Zhuang Jun? Lu... Brother?"
I was still holding onto someone’s collar when I heard Mu Miaomiao's voice. Turning around, I smiled at Miao Miao, but her face looked exceptionally unpleasant in my view.
