Mu Miaomiao's gaze shifted back and forth between me and Lu Ming. She probably couldn't figure out anything from looking at Lu Ming for too long, so she finally focused on me, her expression filled with concern. "Zhuang Jun, you..."
Ignoring whether Lu Ming was present, I felt a pang in my heart at Miao Miao's question. I didn't even dare to meet her eyes; I was afraid of seeing a hint of triumph in them, as Wang Xu had said. I was already on the verge of breaking down.
I simply replied, "I want a divorce."
I felt Miao Miao's grip on my hand tighten, and I heard her voice filled with disbelief. "Zhuang Jun, you?"
I shook my head and lowered my voice. "I'll tell you later."
Releasing Miao Miao's hand, I walked toward Lu Ming and took out the resignation letter I had written last night from my bag. I handed it to him with both hands. "Lu Zong, this is my resignation letter."
Lu Ming must have heard what I said earlier. Although the farce from yesterday had truly happened, I still held onto a bit of selfishness, hoping that fewer people would genuinely believe that I was the home-wrecking vixen. I still wanted to save a bit of face, though I wasn't sure if that was even possible anymore.
"Zhuang Jun, don't!" Miao Miao seemed to sense that things were going awry and immediately came over to stop me, lowering her voice. "Don't do anything rash."
She seemed to think that my relationship with Wang Xu had deteriorated to the point where divorce was inevitable, affecting my emotions to the extent that I couldn't work.
That wasn't it, but now wasn't the time for explanations.
"Lu Zong, what happened yesterday was my fault. I mentioned it over the phone as well. I hope you can reconsider firing Zhang Xiao Ai. One person does the job; one person should take responsibility. I don’t want to drag anyone else down."
And honestly, I had no reason to stay at Luming Company anymore. With yesterday's farce leading to Zhang Xiao Ai's dismissal and rumors swirling about me leaving through the back door, all these factors combined made me wonder how my colleagues would view me if I continued working here.
I became the mistress who destroyed someone else's family, threatening the legal wife's child. The child's grandmother came to the company to curse me out, and I was brought in by the boss, so one can imagine what my relationship with him is.
How much lower can my reputation go? I want to withdraw in time, at least to quickly fade out of their sight and not continue to be a topic of gossip.
"You can leave if you want." Lu Ming did not object; he probably has long found me displeasing. If it weren't for giving Wang Nan and Mu Miaomiao face, he wouldn't have brought someone like me, who knows nothing about software, into the company. I heard there is more than one Luming Company, so why did he insist on placing me in this one? Is he trying to make me retreat voluntarily?
"But the employee termination decision stands."
"Why?" I widened my eyes. "What does this have to do with Zhang Xiao Ai? It is indeed my oversight that my family matters reached the company. If I need to compensate for the company's losses, I will take full responsibility."
"Zhuang Jun..." Mu Miaomiao looked at me in confusion from the side. Perhaps she didn't understand a word I said, yet she still stood by me, holding my hand.
"The employee recruitment content is very clear: do your job well. I run a company, not a teahouse. Miss Zhuang may not have worked as a receptionist and doesn't know what the job entails."
Lu Ming coldly smiled, his words leaving no room for rebuttal.
"Alright, alright, Lu Ge. Wang Nan will be coming over soon; let's not discuss these trivial matters now. We'll have a meal together later. I'll take Zhuang Jun to the restroom first."
Miao Miao pulled the stunned me toward the restroom. As soon as we closed the door, she hurriedly asked me, "Zhuang Jun, what on earth happened these past few days? Why didn't you call me to let me know?"
