Finally, Deng Xiaomei stepped onto the stage, the flickering lights shining on her. Our seats were not far away, allowing us to see the expressions on Deng Xiaomei's face clearly. Her gaze was directed towards us the entire time.
It seemed she was only looking at Huang Zhang.
No matter what actions she took, her alluring figure drew whistles from many, and her swaying body against the steel pole took on a unique charm under the dim lights.
This is probably the allure of such dance; it easily attracts both men and women, which is quite remarkable.
I stole a glance at Huang Zhang and noticed his expression was blank, rarely looking at the stage. If it weren't for Qin Yi mentioning it a couple of times, Huang Zhang seemed disinclined to look. I couldn't tell if he truly didn't care about Deng Xiaomei as he claimed or if his current lack of attention was simply guilt over his past mistakes.
Regardless, what I saw was a woman abandoned, struggling one last time. Deng Xiaomei's appearance now reminded me of myself back then; she was just trying to maintain her dignity in front of an audience, as if nothing had happened, still forced to pose seductively.
I looked at the transparent yellow liquid in my glass, suddenly stood up, and walked over to Lu Ming. I met his gaze as he looked at me coldly. I raised my glass: "Lu Zong, I toast you."
After a long moment, Lu Ming finally moved. He clinked his glass with mine and downed the drink in one go. I followed suit, the burning liquid sliding down my throat, but I knew my relief came from Lu Ming's assistance.
I truly thanked him.
I repeated the same gesture with Qin Yi. I thought both Qin Yi and Lu Ming were sharp enough to understand my gratitude. Qin Yi smiled and said she was happy to be friends with me. I chuckled self-deprecatingly; I should be the one feeling happy.
After finishing her pole dance, Deng Xiaomei came down from the stage and stood in front of us again. Qin Yi pointed to a corner for Deng Xiaomei to sit and then asked Huang Zhang if he was satisfied with the performance. Huang Zhang smiled and said he liked it very much, thanking Qin Yi for everything she had done for him.
Qin Yi replied with a smile: "As long as Huang Ge is happy, it doesn't matter what we do. Since Huang Ge likes it, I guess tonight this person belongs to you."
Qin Yi's meaning was clear: Deng Xiaomei would serve Huang Zhang.
Huang Zhang was politely declining when Lu Ming suddenly said, "She originally belonged to Huang Zhang."
Upon hearing Lu Ming's words, Qin Yi looked surprised: "Really? Did this woman used to be with Huang Ge? Oh dear, I never knew about this; otherwise, I wouldn't have... I'm really sorry, Huang Ge. I didn't know better and came here to show off in front of you. Please don't be angry. But since this woman hasn't been with you, it must be because you grew tired of her."
Huang Zhang still wore a smiling expression: "No, no. I'm very touched by everything Qin Mei has considered for me. Thank you very much."
Qin Yi still did not let go of Huang Zhang, continuously asking him why he no longer wanted Deng Xiaomei. She laughed and said that as a woman, she was very concerned about all the gossip.
Before Huang Zhang could respond to Qin Yi, his gaze seemed to glance in my direction. I didn't understand what Huang Zhang meant, but I could tell he probably didn't believe that Qin Yi's question was as simple as it seemed.
Huang Zhang gave a vague answer and then fell silent. Qin Yi sighed, "I think there must be some reason behind this. Huang Ge is such a sentimental person; it must be that this woman is not worth it. Since Huang Ge doesn't want her anymore, let me take charge this time."
After saying this, Qin Yi called Wang Yue to bring Foreman back. Foreman stood respectfully in front of Qin Yi, listening to her instructions.
"Since this woman is unwanted, I'll take her. How much does she owe you? I'll pay it."
Foreman glanced awkwardly at Lu Ming and replied that he couldn't make that decision; it had to be up to Boss. Qin Yi shook her head, "You should know what my relationship with your Boss was. Asking for a person from him is just doing him a favor. Otherwise, you can call and ask if that's the case."
Foreman repeatedly agreed and after discussing with Qin Yi, he planned to hand over Deng Xiaomei's fate to her. It was then that Huang Zhang, who had been watching from the side like me, finally spoke up to intervene.
"Qin Mei, you don't have to worry so much about me; I appreciate it." Huang Zhang seemed troubled by Qin Yi's enthusiasm.
But Qin Yi appeared very open-minded, not feeling that she was at a disadvantage at all; it seemed helping Huang Zhang was something she had wanted to do all along.
"It's fine, Huang Ge. I will definitely handle this well. It was my fault for not understanding the truth before coming here; Lu Ming didn't tell me about this matter either. Otherwise, I would have acted sooner. Look at me, I've really been foolish and caused you trouble. I apologize to you, and I will definitely give you an explanation afterward."
Qin Yi's attitude was already very clear; Deng Xiaomei was now firmly in her hands, and she would take responsibility for the woman abandoned by Huang Zhang. What she was "worried" about was what bad things this woman had done to upset Huang Zhang; she wanted to help him "take revenge."
In front of Huang Zhang, Deng Xiaomei was handed over to Qin Yi. That night came to an end when everyone left. As they were leaving, Qin Yi and Foreman seemed to discuss something before finally coming over to us. She naturally walked up to me and linked her arm with mine, asking Huang Zhang if he had enjoyed the evening.
Huang Zhang smiled and nodded vigorously, "Happy, happy! Being with Qin Mei is naturally enjoyable."
"That's good! If there's any gathering in the future, I hope Huang Ge will come too. I'm making a reservation for you now; don't say later that you have something else going on."
"I won't! As long as it's where Qin Mei is, I'll definitely be there."
"That's great! Then let's leave it at that for tonight. Huang Ge, you should go back and rest first; we'll see each other another day."
It was almost just a few polite words, and after that, it was pretty much over.
Qin Yi said she would see Huang Zhang off to the car. After Huang Zhang got in, the vehicle didn't start right away; instead, the window of the passenger seat rolled down, revealing Huang Zhang's face.
"I was just casually asking, what does Sister Qin plan to do about that person?"
Qin Yi smiled and said, "Person? Who is Brother Huang talking about? I suddenly feel confused and don't quite understand Brother Huang's words."
"That one from the bar just now," Huang Zhang replied, maintaining a deliberately normal expression. However, the fact that he mentioned Deng Xiaomei at this moment instead of choosing to contact Qin Yi alone later indicated there was an issue.
When he learned that Deng Xiaomei had fallen into Qin Yi's hands, Huang Zhang panicked; he couldn't wait to ask later.
With a knowing look, Qin Yi suddenly realized, "Oh, Brother Huang is talking about her. I was actually quite happy tonight, but unexpectedly she ruined it. I'm upset about it and also want to give Brother Huang some face, so don't worry, she definitely won't have it easy."
I caught a glimpse of Huang Zhang's face, still smiling. Qin Yi maintained this demeanor while speaking, seemingly indifferent, yet her words were probing into what Qin Yi intended to do.
Qin Yi then laughed lightly: "It's getting late; Brother Huang should head back first. It's fine; you understand me and know I won't act recklessly. You don't need to worry about me. Let's leave it at that for now; I'm tired too. Goodnight, Brother Huang."
Finally sending Huang Zhang away, Qin Yi's smile faded. Her lips curled into a cold smirk as she turned to Lu Ming and asked what to do next. Lu Ming suggested going home, and Qin Yi nodded before walking over to me.
"It's already very late; you must be tired. Let's get you home first. Where do you live?"
I waved my hand and said I could take a taxi back myself, but Qin Yi firmly grasped my hand and rejected that idea: "How can that be? It's so late and you've had drinks; it's really inconvenient for a woman to be out alone. We arranged for a designated driver; it's no problem at all. Right, Lu Ming?"
Lu Ming remained noncommittal.
With no other choice, I had to follow Qin Yi and Lu Ming into the car while Wang Yue drove off in her own vehicle.
Unable to hold back any longer, I broke the silence in the car: "Qin Yi, about Deng Xiaomei..."
"Don't worry; I'll handle things appropriately. Of course, if you have any thoughts or ideas, feel free to share them. I think I'll notify you again in a few days."
I didn't understand what Qin Yi meant at the time until two days later when she notified me that Huang Zhang had contacted her. I realized that Qin Yi had a premonition that Huang Zhang would reach out to her regarding Deng Xiaomei.
"What do you think I should do, Zhuang Jun? Huang Zhang actually wants me to set conditions for a woman. What kind of conditions should I propose?" Qin Yi said slowly.
I felt a mix of emotions and couldn't offer Qin Yi any advice on such a matter. I could only tell her that she could decide how to proceed; the choice was hers, and she could do whatever she wanted.
"I think so too, but it feels unfair to let Huang Zhang off so easily. Does he have feelings for this woman? If that's the case, things could get interesting."
Qin Yi's words were cold. I suddenly recalled that it was Huang Zhang's scheme that had ensnared Lu Ming, which was why Qin Yi was so determined to take action against him. Her focus had never been on Deng Xiaomei; her target was solely Huang Zhang.
Ironically, Deng Xiaomei was also the target of my revenge, and we inadvertently formed a united front, which led Qin Yi to call me for my opinion.
I truly had no good suggestions. So far, I was very satisfied with Qin Yi's actions, so all I could do was silently support her.
At least I wasn't foolish enough to think that Qin Yi's actions were solely for my sake.
"That's fine then. As long as you don't oppose it, I'll handle the next steps. You can go about your business, and if anything comes up, I'll call you."
