"Just because I told you to stay doesn't mean you have to? Why didn't you listen when I said not to provoke Fang Bo?"
I laughed, "How did I provoke Fang Bo?"
"What did you say to Fang Bo? Why does he remember what you like to eat?"
I shrugged, "Who knows?"
"Maybe your matchmaking was too clumsy, so he can only vent his anger on me."
"You!" Dong Hui's eyes blazed with fury.
Having been exiled abroad for three years, I was no longer the pushover I once was.
Dong Hui couldn't argue with me and shouted in anger, "Get lost!"
And just like that, he left me by the roadside.
That night, I didn't return to the the Dong Family; instead, I found a hotel to stay in.
In the middle of the night, I scrolled through my social media and saw a post from Dong Chen.
She was leaning on Fang Bo's shoulder, smiling sweetly.
Dong Chen's posts usually garnered a lot of congratulatory comments.
But this one had nothing but a few likes underneath.
Clearly, it was meant for me to see.
I was speechless.
Dong Chen is crazy, Dong Hui is crazy; this whole family is crazy.
The engagement date for Dong Chen and Fang Bo was approaching quickly.
Announcements of the union were everywhere.
And I received some good news—
The thief who stole my things had been caught, and my documents were returned.
I immediately bought a ticket for my return trip.
However, my suitcase was still at the the Dong Family's house, so I had to go back to retrieve it.
The Dong Family had gathered, discussing the engagement. Joyful smiles adorned everyone's faces. My return shattered this harmony. Expressions of surprise and confusion replaced the smiles.
"Xiao Lan, why are you back?"
"Dad, I found my documents and have already bought a ticket home."
My father's face darkened. "How could you come back so soon?"
Dong Hui scolded discontentedly, "Dong Lan! Do you really have to leave at such a critical moment? What will our parents think?"
I laughed lightly. "What does my leaving have to do with you?"
"Don't you know that Dong Chen's engagement is in a few days? If you leave now, people will say we mistreated you!"
I raised an eyebrow. "So you really did mistreat me?"
Dong Hui was momentarily speechless.
Dong Chen's eyes reddened as she came over and took my hand. "Xiao Lan, are you... not going to attend my engagement party?"
Her eyes were glistening with tears, looking as if she couldn't bear to see me go.
I pulled my hand away. "I'm not attending. Now that I've found my documents, I'm leaving."
Dong Chen's eyes grew even redder, tears streaming down her cheeks. "Xiao Lan, are you blaming me?"
"If I had known you'd be this upset, I would have preferred not to have the engagement with Brother Fang!"
"You know I never wanted to compete with you..."
As she continued, her words became more absurd, and I couldn't help but interrupt her.
"No, you're overthinking it."
"I just found the documents and didn't want to delay my return."
Dong Chen cried harder.
Qiao's Mother hugged her tightly and shot me a fierce glare.
"If you want to leave, then go! No one is stopping you!"
I nodded and turned to go upstairs to get my suitcase.
I had booked the earliest flight, planning to leave this sorrowful place as soon as possible.
However, just before the plane was set to take off, a sudden downpour hit.
The rain came fiercely, accompanied by thunder and lightning, and my flight was canceled.
I was stranded near the airport.
This heavy rain reminded me of the day with Fang Bo during Amnesia; it rained just as hard then.
I couldn't help but frown, a wave of unease washing over me.
Sun Yang called me on video, and I answered.
His gentle voice calmed my anxious feelings.
We chatted casually, and before I knew it, three hours had passed.
I held my phone and fell asleep leaning against the headboard.
When I opened my eyes again, it was already eight in the morning.
