Chapter Twenty: Reeds and Rushes 0

Zhou Ziyan parted ways with them as soon as he left the restaurant. Junxi couldn't shake the feeling that his back looked somewhat tragic today, and she couldn't help but call out to him. 0

“Zhou Ziyan.” 0

He turned his face towards her, “What’s up?” 0

Junxi hesitated for a moment; the words “Be careful during the competition” that had been on the tip of her tongue were suddenly replaced by “Don’t come back missing any limbs.” 0

Zhou Ziyan let out a hiss, and before he could turn back to hit her, Junxi quickly ducked into Zhou Xuanyu's car. 0

Zhou Xuanyu was gripping the steering wheel when he turned to see her lively expression and suddenly smirked. 0

“You two really haven’t changed at all.” 0

He said she had changed a lot, yet claimed she and Zhou Ziyan hadn’t changed one bit. Junxi felt a bit dazed but still understood what Zhou Xuanyu was trying to convey. 0

She was herself, and she and Zhou Ziyan were just themselves—this was different. 0

“You’ve changed a lot too.” 0

She smiled brightly, trying her best not to sound too deliberate. This response should have been given to him while waiting in line at the hospital, but at that moment, she had been too lost in the joy of “He still remembers me” to think clearly. 0

Zhou Xuanyu's expression stiffened slightly upon hearing her words, but the stiffness faded quickly, so fast that she thought she might have imagined it. 0

"Fasten your seatbelt," he changed the subject. 0

Junxi replied with a soft "mm," just as she clicked her seatbelt into place. The car shot forward like an arrow, "whooshing" into the flow of traffic. 0

Zhou Xuanyu had a great car and even better driving skills, good enough to easily handle the F1 races in Belgium with Zhou Ziyan. 0

Yet, as Junxi gazed out at the blurred scenery outside, she still felt a bit anxious. She couldn't shake the feeling that Zhou Xuanyu wasn't just driving; he was venting some kind of emotion. 0

Her earlier words had clearly struck a nerve with him. 0

No one changes easily. It's not simple to be reborn as an adult, and growing up is even harder. Who would willingly inflict pain on themselves just to correct their flaws? Just like her. 0

So, what had Zhou Xuanyu experienced over these past five years? 0

She dared not think about it, let alone ask. 0

"Is... is it too fast?" Her voice buzzed, sounding pale and weak. 0

"Aren't you worried about being late?" 0

"Isn't it you who's looking out for me?" 0

Her timid tone eased Zhou Xuanyu's tense expression and his speed along with it. 0

Junxi pressed her trembling stomach and turned to confirm, "We agreed on this, right? You won't go back on your word, will you?" 0

Before Zhou Xuanyu could affirm, she exclaimed again. 0

"Oh no, I forgot you're new here too." 0

He finally curled the corners of his lips into a smile. Though it wasn't a deep one, that small and beautiful curve made the weight in Junxi's heart drop. 0

He slowly turned to look at her, his gaze steady. 0

"Have you heard the saying 'A skinny camel is bigger than a horse'?" 0

"I have heard it..." 0

But how could she compare her hard work to a horse while he described his strong and upright figure as a camel, especially a skinny one? That just didn't fit at all... 0

"I'll take care of you." 0

He said. 0
