Chapter 22: The Dew Has Yet to Settle 2 0

"You’re back!" The Infant Water Spirit exclaimed almost the moment the door opened. 0

Zhou Xuanyu glanced at her without a word, showing no reaction, but the man behind him was taken aback. 0

"Mr. Zhou, I'll come back later," the man said, sensing the situation. 0

Zhou Xuanyu nodded. 0

The Infant Water Spirit watched as the man exited the office, a knowing smile appearing at the corner of her mouth as he closed the door. 0

Perhaps she had done something inappropriate again. 0

"What brings you here?" Zhou Xuanyu asked, surprisingly calm. 0

"After our call, I really wanted to come over and have dinner with you, but I found out you weren't here," the Infant Water Spirit replied, her tone slightly aggrieved. She added, "I texted you, but you didn’t reply." 0

"Is it just about dinner?" 0

"Can’t I come see you?" 0

"It’s work hours." Zhou Xuanyu paused for a moment, impatience already evident in his expression. "I’ve told you before..." 0

"I know," the Infant Water Spirit quickly interrupted him. "Actually, there's something else." 0

"Go on." 0

His stiff tone hurt her a bit, so the Infant Water Spirit adjusted her emotions and put on a smile. "Did you receive the invitation for next week's charity ball?" 0

Zhou Xuanyu glanced at his desk. Galen wasn't around, and he didn't like others touching his things. The documents on the table were disorganized, but the invitation was prominently placed. 0

"I received it." He walked over and pulled out the invitation, glancing at the date printed on it. 0

Seeing his response, the Infant Water Spirit's spirits lifted immediately. 0

"They want to invite me to be the host for the event, but I haven't agreed yet. I knew they would ask you. If I say yes, then who will be your partner that night?" 0

She rambled on. 0

"As for my partner, I have other arrangements." Zhou Xuanyu casually tossed the invitation back onto the desk. 0

The Infant Water Spirit's expression finally stiffened uncontrollably. She instinctively glanced outside; that girl was bent over, flipping through documents on the table, her long hair neatly tied in a ponytail. Even from a distance, her profile radiated youthful beauty. 0

"Xuan Yu..." she called softly. 0

"Just say what you need to say." 0

"I know you still don't want to accept my feelings. You said we can only be ordinary friends, and that's fine; we can be ordinary friends. But..." 0

The Infant Water Spirit felt a jumble of emotions; she truly wanted to step forward and embrace him. However, the office lacked curtains, and her remaining rationality told her that she couldn't do such a thing in this semi-public setting. 0

Doing so would only push him further away. 0

"But are you keeping your distance because you can't let go of that person, or is there something else...?" 0

"Shut up," Zhou Xuanyu interrupted her. 0

"No, I need to say this. If it's because you can't let go of that person, I can wait; I really can wait. But if you've already moved on and still refuse to give me a chance, that's not fair to me." 0

"What is fair?" He stared at her, his gaze indifferent. 0

That question sent the Infant Water Spirit spiraling into despair. 0

In that moment, she couldn't meet his eyes; she lowered her head, her voice barely a whisper. 0

"After all, I've loved you for so long." 0
