Chapter 41: The Mountain Has Trees
Junxi had actually taken a leave of absence even before she sprained her ankle.
Jun Xuan had promised her younger brother that she would attend the parent-teacher meeting after the midterm exams at school.
For the past five years, she had shown up at her brother's school rain or shine, determined not to leave the position of "parent" vacant for Wen Junxuan. Zhou Ziyan teased her for trying to play the role of a fierce tiger while still being a little piglet herself, looking quite the part among a group of middle-aged parents.
Who would want to act as another child's parent at such a young age? But who could blame Jun Xuan when her world had only one person left—herself?
After leaving Zhou Xuanyu, Junxi returned to school once more. The clothes that Xue Waiwai had brought her simply did not fit the identity of a parent.
After changing, she went downstairs and encountered the Dormitory Supervisor in the hallway. The usually stern auntie, who would scold anyone she caught, seemed to be in a good mood today and greeted her from afar.
"Wen Junxi."
Junxi had intended to walk past her, but since she was called out, she had no choice but to approach with a stiff demeanor.
She greeted the auntie politely, though her tone carried a hint of distance.
"You didn't come back last night?" The Dormitory Supervisor stepped closer.
Her gaze was piercing.
Junxi forced a smile; she was usually quite low-key. However, working part-time every night meant she often returned just as the dormitory doors were closing. Over time, this made her a focal point of attention for the auntie.
"Mm."
"Have you gotten a boyfriend?"
"I haven't..."
"Don't play coy. Your boyfriend has already admitted it openly."
"My boyfriend?" Junxi was taken aback; where did this rumor about her having a boyfriend come from?
"Still pretending, are we?" The Dormitory Matron tilted her chin toward the stairs below. "I've been waiting for you for a long time. You really take your time. If I made my husband wait like this, we'd definitely end up arguing..."
The aunt launched into her usual rambling.
Junxi limped down the stairs. Although her physical condition wasn't great, she hoped to escape the buzzing sound of the matron's voice as soon as possible.
As she walked, she glanced down.
A black car was parked below. Due to the angle, she couldn't see the license plate or the logo, and for a moment, she couldn't tell who it was. It wasn't until she reached the bottom of the stairs, holding onto the railing, that she recognized it was Zhou Xuanyu's car.
Seeing her come down, the door of the Cayenne swung open, and Zhou Xuanyu stepped out.
"What are you doing here?" Junxi asked, somewhat surprised.
Zhou Xuanyu didn't answer her; his gaze fell on her ankle. She was wearing long pants and flat shoes, standing straight as if nothing were wrong. However, he could clearly see that she was being cautious with each step she took.
"Where are you going?" he asked.
"I have to go to Yigao for a bit, I..."
"Get in the car."
"No thanks, my foot is fine now, I can walk by myself..."
"Do you want me to carry you?" Zhou Xuanyu said seriously.
"No, I..."
"Then get in the car."
He almost interrupted every word she said. Junxi had no choice but to get into the car.
The Dormitory Supervisor watched them from a distance, and when Zhou Xuanyu started the car, she suddenly waved at them meaningfully. Junxi's face turned red instantly.
"Why did you tell her I'm your boyfriend?"
"Do you think it's better for her to misunderstand that you're being supported by me, or should I just tell her I'm your boyfriend?"
