Chapter Fifty-Five: The Mountain Has Trees 0

The house had been uninhabited for a long time, accumulating a thick layer of dust. Junxi swept the floor and then wiped it down twice with a wet cloth followed by a dry one before she considered it clean. 0

After all that, she was exhausted and sat down on the floor, panting. 0

"Why is there no bed in the bedroom?" Zhou Xuanyu's voice suddenly appeared. 0

Junxi turned around to see him leaning against the doorframe, his gaze fixed on the empty bedroom. 0

"It's because the rent is cheap, and the landlord only provided furniture for the living room. The bed isn't included. I discussed it with Jun Xuan, and he thought it would be fun to sleep on the floor like in K-Dramas, so we decided not to buy a bed." 0

Zhou Xuanyu's expression showed a hint of disbelief. 0

Junxi smiled slightly, not hiding anything: "It's really just to save money." 0

He reached for his phone. 0

"I'll have someone deliver a bed right away." 0

"No, no need." Junxi waved her hand firmly, then lay back down on the floor, rolling over to face Zhou Xuanyu while stretching her arms out. "See? Sleeping on the floor is really nice; it's so spacious." 0

He remained noncommittal. 0

"Don't believe me? Then you should lie down and try it!" She got up to pull him. 0

Zhou Xuanyu was dragged into the bedroom and reluctantly sat down. The hard floor was uncomfortable; sleeping like this must be quite unpleasant. At least, he would definitely find it uncomfortable. 0

"Junxi, you don't need to put yourself through this. If you just ask..." 0

"I won't ask anyone for help again." 0

She turned her head away, her tone suddenly cold. 0

After her parents' accident, how many people had she asked for help? But who was willing to lend her a hand? 0

No one, not a single person. Those people watched as she fell from paradise into the mire, merely standing by with cold eyes, only too eager to kick her while she was down... She had told herself that from then on, everything she wanted had to be earned with her own hands. 0

Relying on others was like leaning on a crumbling mountain; they could abandon you at any moment. Rather than being a vine dependent on others, it was better to let herself grow strong and independent. 0

Zhou Xuanyu sighed lightly. 0

"Do you think this floor is hard? It's fine; when I sleep, I’ll put a layer of bedding underneath. It’ll be soft and spacious, just as comfortable as those raised beds in villas." Perhaps realizing that her previous words sounded too stiff, Junxi quickly changed the subject. 0

Zhou Xuanyu couldn't help but curve his lips slightly. Faced with her self-justification, he chose not to delve deeper. 0

Now, Wen Junxi constantly surprised him; why should he bind her with his own shackles? 0

"Get up and tidy the living room," he said, brushing off his pants as he stood up. 0

Junxi lay on the floor and suddenly reached out towards him playfully, saying, "Xuan Yu Uncle, can you give me a hand?" 0

This was a trick she often used when she was little. 0

Back then, when the Zhou and Wen families went on vacation together, everyone would be ready in the morning while she alone stayed in bed, reluctant to get up. 0

Zhou Xuanyu would come to call her, and she would reluctantly stretch out a hand from under the covers and say to him, "I don't have any strength; can you lend me some?" 0

He would extend his hand to her, and she would deliberately hang all her weight on his arm. He knew she was just playing around, so without hesitation, he would pull back her covers and lift her up—still in her pajamas—and toss her straight into the bathroom... 0

In these trivial matters, she seemed unchanged. Yet Zhou Xuanyu knew that the Wen Junxi hidden deep inside had undergone a complete transformation. 0

She had shed the unnecessary and emerged as a better version of herself. 0

cleaning up the house, Junxi began to organize the things she had brought. The boxes she had packed were tightly sealed, and Zhou Xuanyu was responsible for using scissors to open each one while she sorted and arranged the items inside. 0

"Thanks to you today. If you hadn't come to help me, I wouldn't have known if I could get everything cleaned up," Junxi said as she hung her clothes in the closet, expressing her gratitude to Zhou Xuanyu. 0

"No need to be polite. If you want to thank someone, thank Zhou Ziyan," Zhou Xuanyu replied lightly. 0

"No, no, no. I should thank you. He just moved his lips, but you actually helped me for half a day. I can't get my priorities mixed up," she insisted. 0

"Then how do you plan to thank me?" Zhou Xuanyu shifted the conversation. 0

Junxi paused to think for a moment. "How about I treat you to a meal here another day? I'll cook it myself." 0

Zhou Xuanyu was not surprised that Wen Junxi, who had once only graced the living room, could now handle the kitchen. 0

After all, among all her changes, learning to cook was hardly noteworthy; even he, who used to create chaos in the kitchen, had become quite adept... In this world, nothing was impossible. 0

"There's no time like the present; let's do it today instead." 0

"Today?" A hint of hesitation flashed across her face before she smiled. "Alright then, once I finish tidying up here, I'll go buy some groceries." 0

Her enthusiastic agreement made him start to feel... 0
