"Go."
Junxi replied softly.
Since that day in Zhou Xuanyu's bedroom when things almost got out of hand, Junxi still didn't know how to interact with him alone. But she knew she didn't mind his closeness, not at all.
If time allowed, she should have already set her sights on him.
Hearing her answer, Zhou Xuanyu nodded in satisfaction and continued to sign other documents. The whole process felt casual, as if they were just chatting.
After taking the documents and leaving the President's Office, Junxi made copies, filed them away, and sent them out. It wasn't until everything was done that she noticed Zhou Ziyan was sleeping with his arms folded on the desk.
This person couldn't keep up appearances for more than three days before showing his true colors.
Zhou Ziyan's handsome profile was half-hidden as he rested. Xiaolin and the other girls occasionally glanced over at him. This scene felt oddly familiar.
Junxi remembered that it had been like this before at Purple Gold. Back then, even though she and Zhou Ziyan were in different departments but the same year, he often shamelessly came to sit in on her classes.
Perhaps because of Zhou Ziyan's frequent appearances and his good looks, the classmates quickly became familiar with him and accepted him into their circle.
Every time, he would sit next to Junxi, and over time, that spot beside her became his designated seat. Even if he didn't come to crash a class that day, no one else would sit next to Junxi.
At first, Xue Waiwai would occasionally come over, but gradually, even she stopped approaching her.
Junxi asked her why, and she replied, "Just look at the way everyone looks at me when I sit down. It's as if I've torn a pair of mandarin ducks apart."
Mandarin ducks? What kind of mandarin ducks argue and bicker the moment they meet? In Junxi's eyes, she and Zhou Ziyan were more like a pair of fighting roosters.
However, Junxi was still worried that others might misunderstand, so after that incident, she ordered Zhou Ziyan not to come over anymore. There were plenty of places to sleep; why did he have to come here?
Zhou Ziyan refused to comply. He said, "I just feel more at ease sleeping around all the beauties in your class."
Junxi expressed her concerns to Zhou Ziyan, saying that she didn't like being misunderstood by their classmates. Zhou Ziyan didn't say anything at the time, but the next day, he didn't show up.
He disappeared for more than a week, and just when Junxi thought he wouldn't come back, Zhou Ziyan reappeared.
He came back with rumors.
It was said that Zhou Ziyan had started dating the class monitor from Junxi's class and had been together for a full five days. Based on the "absence makes the heart grow fonder" principle of love, Zhou Ziyan returned to attend classes again.
Although he already had a girlfriend, when choosing a seat, he still insisted on sitting next to Junxi.
Junxi wondered if his girlfriend wouldn't get jealous. Zhou Ziyan seriously replied, "Don't worry, she knows. We're childhood friends who grew up together."
Being childhood friends sounded quite safe; Junxi liked that.
After that, Zhou Ziyan spent most of the semester sleeping next to her. The class monitor often clung to him right after class to assert her claim because even though everyone knew Zhou Ziyan was taken, many beautiful girls in the class still eyed him hungrily. Being Zhou Ziyan's girlfriend actually felt quite insecure.
Zhou Ziyan once said a profound saying that perfectly encapsulates his carefree nature: "Being my girlfriend means just enjoying the moment, because even I can't be sure when I'll want to change girlfriends."
Fortunately, being friends never required enduring such uncertainty...
Junxi was lost in thought when she accidentally knocked over a folder beside her.
With a loud "thud," it startled the sleeping Zhou Ziyan awake.
Rubbing his heavy head, Zhou Ziyan opened his sleepy eyes and looked at Junxi.
"I'm sorry for waking you, Young Master Zhou. I deserve to be punished," Junxi said, picking up the folder while sticking out her tongue at him.
Whether it was because he hadn’t fully woken up or simply didn’t feel like arguing with her, Zhou Ziyan remained silent.
After waiting for a while without receiving any response from him, Junxi was about to turn her face away in disappointment when Zhou Ziyan suddenly spoke up, "I had a dream."
"Oh, your sleep quality is really good."
Zhou Ziyan shot her a glare but continued his narrative without stopping: "I dreamed that you and I went to Yilan."
Yilan was Junxi's grandmother's hometown. After the incident at home, Junxi and her brother had stayed there for a while, and Zhou Ziyan often visited them.
It was a place free of conflict and hatred; everything was peaceful there.
Junxi liked it, but she knew she couldn't stay there forever.
Later, she returned to Qingcheng to study and rarely went back.
Seeing her silent, Zhou Ziyan turned to ask, "Are you free this weekend?"
Wasn't she just scheduled to meet Zhou Xuanyu this weekend?
Junxi shook her head. "I can't this weekend."
Zhou Ziyan huffed, "What do you mean you can't? Did I say I wanted to invite you?"
Junxi smiled. "Of course, of course. When Young Master Zhou calls, I'm sure thousands of beauties will rush over for you to choose from. How could it possibly be my turn?"
Zhou Ziyan deliberately ignored her smile. He lowered his head; when she said she was unavailable, he felt a twinge of disappointment.
Wen Junxi was such a fool, never realizing that for him, even if there were rivers of water, none could compare to a single scoop from her...
?
Junxi was held up by some trivial matters just before getting off work and ended up staying a little longer. Zhou Ziyan had originally said he would wait for her to go eat together, but after a short while, he was called away by a phone call.
Junxi quickly wrapped up her tasks and as she stepped out of the office, she spotted Zhou Xuanyu's car. She didn't know how long he had been parked there or who he was waiting for. Just as she was about to approach, she heard him honk the horn.
She turned around and saw Zhou Xuanyu rolling down the window.
"Get in," he gestured to Junxi.
Junxi looked around; her colleagues had already left for the day, and there were no familiar faces nearby. She felt relieved as she walked over to Zhou Xuanyu's car.
She opened the door, and as soon as she got in, she heard Zhou Xuanyu ask irritably, "What are you acting like a thief for?"
"I'm not," Junxi denied immediately.
Zhou Xuanyu seemed to ignore her response and continued, "What? Afraid someone will see you?"
Junxi remained silent. She was indeed worried about being seen, but there was nothing strange about that. Zhou Xuanyu held a special status in this building, while she, in terms of family background and qualifications, was worlds apart from him. She didn't want to cause him any trouble.
"Were you waiting for me?" Junxi deliberately changed the subject.
"You answer me first," Zhou Xuanyu wasn't falling for her tactic.
Junxi furrowed her brows. "I'm just afraid that if a colleague sees us, they might misunderstand our relationship."
"What relationship do we have?"
"We..." Junxi thought for a moment. "We have no relationship at all, which is why we need to avoid misunderstandings."
Zhou Xuanyu stroked his chin thoughtfully.
The phrase "we have no relationship" sounded so unpleasant to his ears.
It seemed that he should let them have some kind of relationship.
"I don't mean anything else, I'm just afraid it might affect you..."
"I'll take you to eat first." Zhou Xuanyu interrupted her and immediately started the car.
Junxi could sense that he was a bit displeased, and it must have been because of her.
But she hadn't said anything wrong.
Zhou Xuanyu's car had only driven a few meters when it suddenly came to an unexpected stop.
Before Junxi could react, she saw Zhou Xuanyu lean over and buckle her seatbelt, then pull back... The movement was so fluid and quick that she couldn't grasp the reality of it, but the feeling of being securely protected was very real.
Looking at Zhou Xuanyu's tense profile, all the knots in her heart instantly unraveled.
No matter how unwilling he was, at least he could still maintain his gentleness towards her, and that was enough.
Zhou Xuanyu drove straight to the restaurant Junxi had mentioned. Upon arrival, the waiter informed them that there were no private rooms available, but he had no objections to dining in the main hall.
He completely disregarded the possibility of running into acquaintances; his openness made Junxi seem a bit petty. However, in front of him, she never needed to deliberately act magnanimous.
They finished their meal quietly without encountering any so-called acquaintances she had anticipated.
Zhou Xuanyu settled the bill and instead of heading straight to the car, he turned to her and said, "Let's take a stroll."
Shopping together?
Junxi was still questioning whether this man in front of her was really Zhou Xuanyu when he reached out and took her hand.
"I remember you used to hate shopping. Isn't that still the case?"
Junxi looked up at his firm jawline. He had just said they were going shopping, yet there was no trace of leisure in him; the air of business still surrounded him.
"Depends on the person," he replied slowly.
Junxi smiled, "So what you're saying is that you won't find it annoying to shop with me, right?"
Zhou Xuanyu tilted his head slightly, "If you keep asking, that might change."
Junxi quickly raised her hand to signal for silence, "Alright, alright, I won't ask anymore!"
Just as she finished speaking, she asked again, "So where are we going? Do you need to buy anything?"
Zhou Xuanyu simply replied, "..."
In the end, Zhou Xuanyu took her to an Outdoor Sports Brand Store. As soon as they stepped inside, a Sales Associate greeted them warmly.
"Good afternoon, sir and madam. How can I assist you today?"
The Sales Associate glanced at Zhou Xuanyu, who did not meet her gaze. Instead, she turned and smiled at Junxi.
Junxi awkwardly averted her eyes, genuinely unsure of Zhou Xuanyu's intentions for bringing her here.
"Where are the camping tents?" After scanning the area without finding what he needed, Zhou Xuanyu finally addressed the Sales Associate.
"Oh, so you're looking to buy a camping tent," the Sales Associate said, realization dawning on her. Junxi also looked as if she had just understood.
"Please, follow me this way," the Sales Associate gestured, leading them into another sales area.
Junxi stared at the dazzling array of camping tents, feeling overwhelmed. She truly knew nothing about these items. However, recalling the scenes from their camping trip, she figured Zhou Xuanyu must know much more than she did.
He understood everything far better than she did, which made Junxi feel like an ignorant child in his presence. She enjoyed the feeling of being a child but also felt a sense of helplessness.
Zhou Xuanyu held Junxi's hand as they walked, flipping through the brochures for the tents.
Junxi wasn't as meticulous as he was; she only looked at the illustrations in the descriptions and chose whichever tent looked appealing to her.
"Sir, would you like me to make some recommendations?" The Sales Associate followed them closely, eager to assist.
"I want a Two-Person Model," Zhou Xuanyu said as he walked along a row of tents, seemingly not finding what he was looking for.
“Two-Person Model I recommend that one.” The Sales Associate casually pointed, “That model in our store is very popular among Young Couples. Many Newlyweds come to buy it to add some fun to their lives. You two are Newlyweds, right?”
The Sales Associate suddenly asked.
“Why do you say that?” Zhou Xuanyu seemed intrigued.
However, the Sales Associate could not discern Zhou Xuanyu's interest. All she knew was that the man before her had a mysterious expression, and she couldn't tell if her guess was correct.
“Forgive me for being nosy. I just feel that the chemistry between you two is quite strong. You don’t look like an ordinary couple; it seems you must have spent some time together to develop such a connection. And looking at your ages, you don’t seem like you've been married for long, so I guessed you were Newlyweds. Am I wrong?”
The associate felt a bit anxious.
Junxi was about to say no when he saw Zhou Xuanyu nodding.
“Yes, we are newlyweds.”
Junxi felt a wave of surprise wash over him. He wanted to elbow Zhou Xuanyu and ask what he was talking about, but he was afraid of embarrassing him in front of others and held back.
The Sales Associate appeared excited that she had guessed correctly and added, “I knew it! You two look very compatible and have a couple's aura.”
“Wrap that up,” Zhou Xuanyu casually pointed.
“Sure! Thank you! You’re so straightforward!” The Sales Associate beamed with a smile that said “bonus secured.” Her enthusiasm for Zhou Xuanyu grew even more.
"You haven't seen it yet," Junxi reminded him.
"I'm willing to."
He raised an eyebrow and turned to look at other tents, exuding the air of a wealthy patron.
Junxi stood there, speechless.
When did Zhou Xuanyu become such an irrational person? He would never have been someone who could be swayed by a few words from a sales associate. What was going on today?
Could it be that he previously refused to listen to sales pitches simply because they didn't say what he wanted to hear?
"Sir, the instructions for setting up this tent are all included. You just need to follow this," the Sales Associate said. "And this 'Love LED Light' is a special gift we offer for couples. When you’re camping outdoors, turning on this light will create a romantic atmosphere!"
As the Sales Associate spoke, she pressed a button, and the 'Love LED Light' illuminated. The store's lights were bright, but this light held its own charm. Once fully lit, its glow gradually softened.
Junxi loved it; she immediately took it and began examining it closely.
The Sales Associate continued chattering away with Zhou Xuanyu, boasting about the quality of their tents.
"What you two do inside the tent is entirely up to you," the Sales Associate winked at Zhou Xuanyu, her tone suddenly becoming suggestive.
Junxi wanted to pretend she hadn't heard, but her face was already involuntarily flushed.
A two-person tent indeed sparked the imagination. The implication was probably no different from that of a double bed.
"Could they really be doing something there?"
Heavens, what could they possibly do? She had no experience at all... Her face was burning up, but afraid that Zhou Xuanyu would notice, she had to lower her head even further.
Zhou Xuanyu left the delivery address. The lamp was small enough for Junxi to carry it herself.
Once they were out of the store, the blush on Junxi's face had not completely faded.
"Why did you tell the clerk we are Newlyweds?" she asked softly. She was curious, but asking so directly still felt a bit embarrassing.
"Why can't I say that?" Zhou Xuanyu glanced at her. "See? I even managed to trick you into getting a lamp."
There was a slight smile in his eyes.
"..."
Junxi was at a loss for words.
Was the answer really just to trick her into getting a lamp? She didn't believe it.
It seemed Zhou Xuanyu could tell what Junxi was thinking. He took the lamp, examined it in his hands, and then asked her, "What? Don't you like this lamp?"
"I like it."
He replied, "Then that's good."
"......" Junxi was once again at a loss for words.
Did this man even have any emotional intelligence?
---
When writing the title, I only thought of this phrase: "In life and death, we make our vows; hand in hand, we grow old together."
Rest assured, this section does not contain the kind of intense drama you might be imagining.
I apologize for the somewhat chaotic title; I hope everyone can bear with it.
Additionally, if all goes well today, there will be another update. Thank you all for your support!
