Junxi's footsteps came to a halt.
"Sister Junxi, why aren't you moving?" Minya tugged at Junxi's sleeve.
Junxi remained silent, her gaze fixed on the fleeting figure of Zhou Xuanyu on the screen. He wore a black trench coat, sunglasses obscuring his eyes, and the cold lines of his profile revealed not a hint of emotion.
Shen Yunchong glanced at the screen and then at Junxi, pulling Minya closer to him.
"Go," he said, his tone devoid of any emotion.
Junxi clenched her fists, her nails nearly digging into her flesh.
"No need, let's go back," Junxi turned her head away and continued to hold Minya's hand.
Minya looked a bit confused but obediently followed Junxi toward the airport exit. Shen Yunchong, however, remained rooted in place.
He hadn't expected Zhou Xuanyu to sacrifice so much for his brother. This man was impressively brave in a way that commanded respect.
Zhou Xuanyu was fundamentally different from Zhou Xuan Yong; Shen Yunchong was certain of that.
Junxi helped Minya into the car before climbing in herself. Shen Yunchong followed closely behind. Once inside, he cast a meaningful glance at Junxi and asked, "Are you really not going?"
Junxi didn't respond, simply turning her gaze away. Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed Shen Yunchong still watching her. After a moment of silence with no response from her, he turned to the driver and said, "Let's go home."
Home. But for her, where was home anymore?
Junxi pressed her lips tightly together, gazing out the window, lost in thought.
The car had not been on the road long before it was caught in traffic. Shen Yunchong casually pressed the button for the car's CD player, and to his surprise, the first song that played was a dance tune.
Junxi recalled that day at the charity ball when she had twisted her ankle and Zhou Xuanyu had taken her home. He had held her while dancing to this very song.
Memories surged forth at that moment, accompanied by a bittersweet feeling.
The car remained stationary, stuck in traffic, which was beginning to frustrate her.
“Mr. Shen, I’m sorry, but I have to go!”
Before Shen Yunchong could react, Junxi suddenly opened the back door of the car and jumped out, quickly shutting the door behind her.
“Sister Junxi!”
Minya hurriedly crawled over and leaned against the window sill, calling out loudly.
But Junxi had already run far away.
Amidst the long line of cars stuck in traffic, she moved swiftly, overtaking several vehicles in an instant.
“Minya, Teacher Wen has something very important to discuss. You stay put.”
Shen Yunchong turned to look at his daughter.
Although Minya didn’t understand what Junxi’s important matter was, she obediently nodded in response.
By the time Shen Yunchong turned back around, Junxi had vanished from sight.
He sat in the passenger seat, pinching his chin and deep in thought. Perhaps the most suitable titles for them were still "Mr. Shen" and "Teacher Wen."
Junxi drove on, the long line of cars seeming endless. By the time she finally spotted the exit, her legs had grown weak and began to tremble.
Fortunately, she managed to get a taxi quickly.
A crowd of reporters had gathered outside the police station, but due to the suddenness of the incident, they hadn't done their homework. Everyone was eager to interview Zhou Xuanyu or anyone from the Zhou family, but they hadn’t anticipated that members of the Wen family would also be present.
Junxi followed a police officer returning to the station and successfully entered without anyone recognizing her as part of the Wen family.
However, in the lobby of the police station, she only saw Zhou Ziyan.
"Where is he?" Junxi rushed over, frowning as she looked at Zhou Ziyan.
Zhou Ziyan naturally knew who Junxi was referring to.
"Uncle has already been taken into custody by the police," Zhou Ziyan said in a hushed voice. "What on earth is going on with all of you?"
Last night, Zhou Xuanyu had suddenly called him over, saying he would be going away for a while. He temporarily handed over company matters to Galen and Jia Man, but he was worried about Junxi's situation and wanted to leave it in Zhou Ziyan's hands.
Zhou Ziyan was completely baffled; even after Zhou Xuanyu explained everything, he still didn't understand what was happening.
Junxi shook her head, tears welling up in her eyes.
"I want to see him! Can you arrange for me to see him?"
"You can't see him for now."
"Did he say anything to you? Did you hire a lawyer? Did he mention when you could see him?" Junxi tugged at Zhou Xuanyu's sleeve, bombarding her with questions.
"I don't know that much. Right now, I feel like I've been hit over the head; I'm completely dazed," Zhou Ziyan said, cradling his head with a troubled expression.
Junxi leaned against the wall.
"What is this! What is this!" Junxi exclaimed angrily.
"Shh! Lower your voice; we're in a police station!" Zhou Ziyan rushed over to cover Junxi's mouth. Then, as if remembering something, he pulled out a check from his pocket and shoved it into Junxi's hand.
"This is what he asked me to give you. He said this money is enough to cover your medical expenses so you won't do anything foolish out of desperation."
It was unclear whether it was Zhou Ziyan's overly tender tone or if Junxi was already on the brink of collapse, but her tears flowed even more fiercely.
"What else? What else did he say?"
"Nothing more." In truth, there was more.
Zhou Xuanyu had insisted that no matter what, he must stop Junxi from marrying Shen Yunchong and protect her just as he had during those five years when he wasn't around.
Zhou Ziyan hadn't understood last night what it meant to protect her like those five years.
But at this moment, everything suddenly made sense.
Understanding brought him pain. He didn't want Junxi to know these words; he didn't want her to hurt like this too.
If things were set in stone, would five years be enough?
"No more?" Junxi raised his tearful eyes and looked at Zhou Ziyan in disbelief. ZhouZiyan nodded: "It's really gone." That's right, what else can there be? His decision was equivalent to saying everything he wanted to say later. He finally fulfilled her wish, rescued her parents, and was able to save his brother before Shen Yunchong found evidence. This is a way to have both ends of the world, and he is just a fool who values love and justice. ? Junxi fell ill and had a high fever overnight. ZhouZiyan invited the doctor to his home, and the fever slowly subsided after a day of running water. But the fever in the body is easy to go away, but the crux in the heart is difficult to heal. Zhou Ziyan also began to doubt the case back then, and he secretly investigated who Zhou Xuanyu had been in contact with during the recent period. It's just that Zhou Xuanyu, as the president of Hengfu Group, has a wide social circle and it is difficult to find an entry point for a while. Junxi took a few days off. Shen Yunchong knew about it, but he never knew that Junxi took a sick leave. It was not until his assistant reminded him later that he suddenly realized that she was sick? Minya at home knew that Junxi was sick and clamored to see her. Shen Yunchong gave up a few meetings and took Minya to Junxi’s house early in the morning. Most of the time recently, he went to the hospital to visit Junxi's younger brother, but rarely had the chance to go to her home. Minya has been here a few times, and she seems to be more familiar than Shen Yunchong. After knocking on the door for a while, Junxi came out and opened the door. After not seeing her for a few days, she was indeed looking more haggard. The recent blows were indeed unbearable for ordinary people, not to mention that she was just a little girl who was still inexperienced in the world.
"Sister Junxi, why are you sick?" Minya exclaimed as she rushed into the room and hugged Junxi's leg.
Junxi gently patted Minya's head and glanced at Shen Yunchong. "What brings you here all of a sudden? I have a cold and I'm worried about spreading it to the children."
As she spoke, she pushed Minya away a little.
"It's okay, I'm not afraid!" Minya clung to her again.
Junxi smiled lightly.
Shen Yunchong watched her, noticing how her smile seemed to fade in an instant.
Despite being unwell, Junxi busied herself with making tea and serving snacks for Shen Yunchong and Minya, treating it like any other day. Her flurry of activity made her seem more distant.
Shen Yunchong gently guided Minya away, suggesting she play in Junxi's room for a while.
Junxi understood Shen Yunchong's intention and took the initiative to lead Minya to her room.
"Have you seen Mr. Zhou yet?" Shen Yunchong asked softly, looking at the tea leaves floating in his cup.
Junxi furrowed her brow. "Not yet. I'm not allowed to see him for now."
"Are you very worried?"
Junxi paused, realizing the implication. She was about to marry Shen Yunchong, yet here she was, so consumed by thoughts of another man that it had taken a toll on her health. It was indeed unreasonable.
"I'm sorry, I..."
"I understand," Shen Yunchong interrupted her. "There are many things I won't force you into. But for now, the child is still here; let's talk about this later."
Junxi glanced in the direction of her room and nodded.
"Mr. Zhou, I didn't expect such a self-sacrificing spirit from you," Shen Yunchong said, taking a sip of tea. "Zhou Xuan Yong is quite a terrible person, yet everyone around him seems to be quite upright."
Junxi knew that wasn't entirely true. Only Zhou Xuanyu and Zhou Ziyan, both sharing the Zhou surname, were different from him.
"Do you need my help?" Shen Yunchong asked.
Junxi's eyes flickered. "Mr. Shen, are you still willing to help me?"
"Although I stand opposed to Zhou Xuan Yong, I admire Zhou Xuanyu. Besides, I can't just sit back and do nothing about your situation."
"Thank you."
"Let's not be too formal. It's been so long; it would be unreasonable for us not to be more familiar with each other."
Junxi nodded, but she still felt a sense of guilt towards Shen Yunchong.
"Go ahead, tell me how I can help you."
"Mr. Shen, could you arrange for me to meet him for a moment?"
