Zhou Xuanyu had long admitted it, so now hearing Junxi say he was simple didn’t bother him at all.
After the waiter served the dishes, he left. Zhou Xuanyu had set up a romantic atmosphere, but he truly just wanted to take Junxi out for a meal. Without saying much, he frequently served food to Junxi.
Junxi felt quite at ease. After she had eaten her fill, she wandered over to the window to admire the beautiful scenery right outside.
“Are you going back to school soon?” Zhou Xuanyu's voice came from beside her. When Junxi turned her head, she saw him standing right next to her.
“Yeah,” she replied softly.
“When are you heading back?”
“Tomorrow.”
“I’ll give you a ride.”
“No need. Zhou Ziyan is going back too; we agreed to go together.”
“Zhou Ziyan isn’t going back tomorrow.”
Junxi raised an eyebrow in suspicion. “Why not?”
He still appeared relaxed, but his tone was very certain. “Because I’m taking you.”
"Then why do you insist on sending me?"
"You are the one I brought out, so sending you back now would complete the circle."
"Is that all?" Junxi was skeptical.
"Also, I'm pursuing you." Zhou Xuanyu gently raised his hand and brushed Junxi's hair, adding, "Since I'm pursuing you, I naturally have to take care of everything myself. How could I let another man have the chance to show you such attentiveness?"
His serious demeanor made Junxi want to laugh, but seeing Zhou Xuanyu's earnest expression, she held back.
She turned her face away, neither agreeing to let him send her nor refusing.
The scenery outside was enchanting as they stood side by side. Out of the corner of her eye, Junxi caught a glimpse of the man beside her, who was completely focused on her. It seemed as if she was more captivating than the beautiful view.
Junxi felt her cheeks warm up and immediately reached out to push the window open.
A cool breeze rushed in through the gap, causing her to shiver involuntarily.
Zhou Xuanyu instinctively wrapped his arm around her from the side.
It wasn't quite an embrace, but his warm presence around her made Junxi feel at ease.
The next morning, Zhou Xuanyu's car appeared downstairs at Junxi's building.
Her parents and Jun Xuan were very relieved that Zhou Xuanyu was sending her, so much so that no one even woke up early to see her off.
Junxi had long anticipated this day, but now, with a hint of stubbornness in her heart, she found herself entangled with Zhou Xuanyu, while her entire family had turned against him. It was a bit hard for her to swallow.
But who could blame Zhou Xuanyu for winning everyone's hearts? If it weren't for her desire to stir things up and get his attention, her heart would have belonged to him entirely.
Zhou Xuanyu dropped Junxi off at the dormitory building. As soon as she got out of the car, she heard someone calling her name.
"Junxi!"
"Wen Junxi!"
Junxi looked up to see Xue Waiwai and several other roommates already at the balcony. They were leaning over the railing, chatting casually. Upon spotting Junxi getting out of Zhou Xuanyu's car, they erupted into cheers, shouting her name.
"Hi!" Seeing those familiar smiling faces lifted Junxi's spirits. She waved at them and quickly grabbed her suitcase from Zhou Xuanyu's hands to head upstairs.
"Brother-in-law! Don't leave yet; let us take a good look at you first!" the girls shouted from above.
Junxi paused for a moment before realizing they were referring to Zhou Xuanyu as "brother-in-law."
Being the youngest in her dormitory, it was only natural that if Zhou Xuanyu was going to be with her, he would become everyone's brother-in-law. However, it was quite amusing to hear him, in his thirties, being called "brother-in-law" by a group of girls in their twenties.
Zhou Xuanyu didn't seem fazed at all; with his good-natured temperament, he nodded politely at the girls above. It was unclear whether he acknowledged the title or was simply greeting them.
"Brother-in-law, you've taken away our dorm's most beautiful sister! Don't forget to treat us to dinner!" the Dormitory Leader shouted.
"Definitely," Zhou Xuanyu called out.
Everyone laughed, his graceful demeanor winning him countless admirers.
Junxi nudged him, "You should head back now. I'm going up."
Suddenly, Zhou Xuanyu grabbed her.
"I have free time these days. If you need anything, just call me. And if they want me to treat them to a meal, they can call me anytime."
Junxi pouted, "They want my brother-in-law to treat them. Whether you're my brother-in-law or not is still undecided."
Zhou Xuanyu suddenly reached out and pulled her into his arms in front of everyone.
"Hey!" Junxi pushed him away.
Laughter and cheers erupted from the crowd by the railing.
But Zhou Xuanyu seemed to be doing it on purpose, wanting to attract everyone's attention.
"Zhou Xuanyu! I haven't agreed to anything yet; this counts as harassment!" Junxi struggled.
Zhou Xuanyu held her hands firmly but loosened his grip slightly.
"There are too many handsome young men in this school. You always act like this, and I can't help but worry."
Junxi had not yet figured out what Zhou Xuanyu meant by that statement when he leaned down and kissed her lips.
During this time, he had maintained his composure around Junxi, but after being so restrained for so long, everything fell apart in just this moment.
He kissed her lightly and then released her.
Junxi's cheeks flushed as she shot him a glare.
Zhou Xuanyu gently touched her cheek.
"I'll let you act however you want, but I need everyone to know that you are mine."
It turned out he had always been drawing boundaries around her. She thought her little tricks had tamed him, but in reality, she had never escaped from his grasp.
Oh well, with a man like this, how could she ever compete?
---
The sisters hadn't seen each other in a long time and were thrilled to be reunited. During their evening chat, the usually introverted Second Sister opened up and couldn't stop talking. Not to mention the already talkative Xue Waiwai and the others.
"Junxi, is that man who brought you here your boyfriend?" the Dormitory Leader asked.
Junxi suddenly remembered that aside from Xue Waiwai, the other sisters had moved out early and had not yet met Zhou Xuanyu.
"Yes," Junxi replied.
Although she didn't want to admit it yet, after the earlier commotion downstairs filled with hugs and kisses, her denial only made it seem more absurd.
"It seems so... so..." the Dormitory Leader seemed at a loss for words.
"So what?"
"I don't know how to describe it, but he feels so charming. He's not like those inexperienced boys at school, but he also doesn't resemble the typical successful men in society. There's just something about him that exudes character."
Once the Dormitory Leader said this, everyone nodded in agreement.
Junxi felt pleased to hear that everyone had a good impression of Zhou Xuanyu.
The topic of their informal gathering shifted entirely due to Zhou Xuanyu, and everyone began sharing their experiences with men they had encountered over the past six months.
It was surprising to realize that while they all left single, they returned with boyfriends.
Even Xue Waiwai successfully emerged from the shadow of her breakup and found her true prince charming.
As the conversation turned to their respective partners, the atmosphere became more intimate.
"Junxi, Zhou Xuanyu is older than you; he must be very considerate, right?" someone whispered in the darkness.
Zhou Xuanyu was indeed a thoughtful and attentive person. For instance, when he came to pick her up this morning, he meticulously checked what she had brought along, noticing everything she had forgotten or packed.
"Not in that way," the Dormitory Leader reminded.
"What's that..."
"We're talking about how considerate he is, right?"
Amidst the surrounding ambiguous laughter, even though it was pitch black and no one could be seen, Junxi's face turned red. She clutched the blanket tightly, remaining silent.
"The skills of a mature man are certainly beyond question."
"Exactly! Unlike our guy, he's so timid. Every time he gets to second base, he stops, saying he's afraid I might get pregnant."
"..."
"Junxi, aren't you going to share some experiences?" Xue Waiwai urged.
Everyone laughed, and Junxi felt as if her entire body was ablaze, just like when Zhou Xuanyu had ignited that spark within her. She covered her head with the blanket. "No, no, let's just sleep."
The laughter grew even more rampant.
She remained silent, but the others continued to chatter excitedly.
Junxi felt an emptiness both physically and emotionally. She reached for her phone and sent a text to Zhou Xuanyu.
It was late, and she didn't expect him to reply, but just as her message went out, a text from Zhou Xuanyu came in.
"Why are you still awake?"
"Everyone is chatting and can't sleep. Why aren't you asleep either?"
"I still have some things to finish."
"Weren't you free?" Junxi recalled what he had said when he left earlier, feeling curious.
"Jia Man took a leave to go to France today, so many things have temporarily fallen back into my hands."
Junxi looked at Jia Man's name bouncing on the screen. She hadn't expected Zhou Xuanyu to mention Jia Man so openly while she still felt a bit resentful.
Perhaps he truly believed that being upright meant not fearing shadows.
Without Junxi's participation, the informal meeting quickly came to an end. The Dormitory Leader's concluding remark was, "There will be plenty of time in the future; we can take our time to extract confessions."
Junxi couldn't help but smile. It seemed she would eventually have to explain everything. But with how considerate Zhou Xuanyu was towards her, how could she bear to share that with others?
Time may seem abundant, but the days spent together flew by quickly.
Junxi had been buried in the library for days, struggling to revise her thesis. Zhou Xuanyu probably had his hands full too; it had been several days since he last contacted her.
Just as she was thinking about this, a figure suddenly flashed past the shelves.
Junxi blinked and saw Zhou Xuanyu sitting across from her. As he took his seat, a cup of milk tea appeared before her as if by magic.
"Why are you here?"
Even though the library was nearly empty, Junxi still lowered her voice.
"Are you revising your paper?" Zhou Xuanyu replied, not answering her question.
Junxi nodded, and in that moment, Zhou Xuanyu took the paper from her hands. Along with it, he also snatched away her pen.
After reading through it twice, he made some notes and highlighted a few points. It seemed casual, but he pinpointed all the critical issues in Junxi's paper.
As Junxi sipped the milk tea Zhou Xuanyu had brought, she watched him concentrate. His grip on the pen was elegant, and his profile as he lowered his head was also quite attractive...
"Why do you keep staring at me?" Zhou Xuanyu asked, though he didn't lift his head. He could still sense Junxi's gaze.
"I just remembered how you used to help me with my homework when we were kids."
Zhou Xuanyu remained silent.
"I must have been pretty dumb back then, right?" Junxi asked, feeling a bit embarrassed.
Zhou Xuanyu did not confirm or deny it. He raised an eyebrow and casually replied, "How smart are you now?"
"What do you mean by that!"
Junxi glared at him in frustration.
Zhou Xuanyu made a "shh" gesture with his lips and then pretended to look around.
Junxi recalled where they were and immediately took a deep breath to calm herself.
Zhou Xuanyu handed the paper back to her. "With the changes I've marked for you, there shouldn't be any problems."
Junxi glanced at it, only to see him suddenly reaching out his hand toward her.
"Hmm?"
"Let's take a break first. I'm taking you somewhere." He took Junxi's hand.
"Where are we going?"
"You'll find out when we get there."
?
Junxi hazily got into Zhou Xuanyu's car, which drove east until it finally stopped at the largest car market in Qingcheng.
She looked around, confused about why Zhou Xuanyu had brought her here. This was clearly a place that Zhou Ziyan would like.
"What are we doing here?"
"Boss Zhou's company is opening, so we're here to show our support."
Junxi still hadn't figured out who Boss Zhou that Zhou Xuanyu mentioned was, but Zhou Xuanyu had already taken her hand and led her inside.
The car market was vast, yet Zhou Xuanyu navigated it with ease, guiding her directly to a brand-new store. This wasn't an ordinary 4S shop; the showroom displayed mostly Racing Models.
A red carpet lay at the entrance, adorned with Flower Baskets. Although it wasn't overly extravagant, Junxi could tell that this was likely a grand opening.
"You don't mean Boss Zhou is Zhou Ziyan, do you?"
As soon as Junxi finished speaking, a cheer erupted from within.
Zhou Xuanyu pulled Junxi inside and casually knocked on the door.
A group of people turned to look at the sound. Junxi recognized several familiar faces: Zhou Ziyan, Dazhong, Xiang Han… along with some of Zhou Ziyan's friends whom she had met before but couldn't name.
"What are you all doing here?" Zhou Ziyan asked, somewhat surprised.
"Your new company is opening; how could we not come to celebrate?" Zhou Xuanyu released Junxi's hand and greeted everyone in the room.
Zhou Ziyan shyly rubbed his nose. "I know you've been busy lately, so I didn't want to disturb you with this small gathering."
"And what about me? You're becoming a Boss and didn't even tell me—aren't you being a bit inconsiderate?" Junxi playfully punched Zhou Ziyan on the shoulder.
Zhou Ziyan laughed. "I intended to wait until everything was running smoothly before telling you. I didn't want you to say I'm not focused on my work again."
"When have I ever said you're not focused on your work? Besides, who am I to dare say that? I'll be relying on Boss Zhou to take care of me in the future."
"Taking care of you is not something that can be summed up in a few words." Zhou Ziyan stepped back. "Since you're here, let's all have a drink together. Come on, Xiang Han, prepare two more glasses."
Xiang Han, who had been standing by, heard this and quickly ran into the tea room. When she came out, she was holding two glasses. She handed one to Zhou Xuanyu and placed the other in front of Junxi.
"Congratulations," Junxi smiled at Xiang Han.
"Thank you."
Xiang Han smiled back. After not seeing each other for a long time, she had become much fairer and her attire exuded more femininity. She stood beside Zhou Ziyan, embodying the elegance of a Boss Lady.
"Uncle, since you're here, why not share some words of wisdom as someone who's been through it all?" Zhou Ziyan suggested.
The young partners present nodded, showing Zhou Xuanyu a different kind of respect and trust.
Zhou Xuanyu shook the champagne in his hand and smiled at everyone. "Actually, I haven't been in charge of Hengfu Group for long, so I can't claim to have much experience. On the contrary, I admire all of you. At such a young age, you already have the courage to take risks. Working hard for your dreams is commendable, but remember this: once you've chosen to unite, you are no longer just partners; you are comrades. The road of entrepreneurship will undoubtedly be filled with storms and conflicts. Always be understanding and consider things from others' perspectives. A single chopstick is easy to break, but a bunch is hard to snap. Once you truly establish your team's reputation, victory will be within reach. Now, let's raise our glasses!"
Zhou Ziyan and her group of partners raised their glasses in response.
"Cheers!" Everyone drank their champagne in unison, their youthful faces filled with determination.
Junxi watched the scene before her, feeling deeply moved.
Guided by dreams and surrounded by like-minded friends, Zhou Ziyan was truly fortunate.
After a lively time with everyone, Zhou Xuanyu finally took Junxi away.
Junxi could tell that Zhou Xuanyu was genuinely happy about Zhou Ziyan's achievements today.
Feeling joyful, he had a few more drinks. Although he wasn't drunk, he was pleasantly tipsy, making it impossible for him to drive.
"Let's walk back," Zhou Xuanyu said.
"It's far from the school."
"I know."
"Then why walk?"
"But it's close to Yatian," Zhou Xuanyu replied, his bright eyes shining under the streetlights.
Junxi suddenly recalled the ambiguous question the girls had asked during their previous gathering. If she stayed out tonight, she would definitely face an interrogation tomorrow.
"Let's go."
As she hesitated, Zhou Xuanyu had already taken her hand. He walked beside her with ease, showing no signs of mischief.
Junxi thought for a moment and decided to follow him.
Lately, she couldn't tell if it was due to graduation pressure or the discomfort of sleeping on the school's hard bed, but she had been suffering from insomnia. During those sleepless nights, she often thought about how wonderful it would be to fall asleep in his embrace.
Today, let her have a good sleep.
Although the car market wasn't far from Yatian, walking back still took quite a bit of time. By the time she got home, night had fallen.
Junxi took a shower and changed into the spare clothes she had left at Zhou Xuanyu's place.
Upon hearing that she had insomnia, Zhou Xuanyu went downstairs to warm up some milk for her as soon as she finished her shower.
Once Junxi had tidied herself up, she called Xue Waiwai and the others to inform them of her whereabouts, so they wouldn't worry.
"So, you're not coming back today?"
Xue Waiwai's loud voice successfully caught the attention of the other girls in the dormitory.
The dormitory leader snatched the phone away and asked, "So, you're at your boyfriend's house today?"
Before Junxi could respond, another person grabbed the phone.
"Junxi, remember to enjoy yourself tonight. When you come back tomorrow, make sure to confess everything."
"Enjoy what? Confess what?" Junxi played dumb.
"Stop pretending; we know you understand."
Laughter erupted from the other end of the line. Just as Junxi felt embarrassed, Zhou Xuanyu walked in through the door.
He finished his shower and changed into a comfortable set of loungewear, his feet clad in cotton slippers, a glass of milk in his hands... he radiated warmth.
"Why is your face so red?" Zhou Xuanyu immediately noticed something unusual about her.
"It's nothing." Junxi took the milk from him, trying to cover her embarrassment. She quickly took a sip and then started coughing violently. "It's so hot!"
"I was just about to remind you; who told you to drink it so fast!" Zhou Xuanyu pinched Junxi's chin. "Stick out your tongue; let me see."
Junxi obediently stuck out her tongue, and because it hurt, she panted lightly.
"You really look like a little puppy," Zhou Xuanyu commented.
Junxi shot him a glance, just as she was about to retract her tongue when he unexpectedly leaned in and kissed her.
His lips enveloped hers in an instant.
"Mm!"
Junxi shivered, and the cup of milk in her hand was swiftly snatched away by Zhou Xuanyu as he rolled over to pin her down.
"The milk is too hot; let it cool before you drink it," Zhou Xuanyu mumbled.
And during this cooling time, there was plenty they could do...
