Ren stepped into the room and immediately felt the familiar oppressive atmosphere that was unique to Samir. However, when his gaze met Samir, that feeling seemed to dissipate somewhat. Samir sat in the center of the sofa, looking relaxed and self-satisfied, with a hint of playfulness in his eyes. He appraised Ren as if he were an artist admiring his own masterpiece.
"Ha!" Samir suddenly burst into laughter, drawing the attention of the entire room. In a teasing tone, he said, "Isn't this my most valuable Mercenary? Ren, you never cease to amaze me. You always manage to flawlessly accomplish the tasks I give you. It's really hard not to like you."
The nearby security personnel remained expressionless, as if they were accustomed to Samir's playful banter. There was no change in their gaze, as if all of this was just routine.
Samir once again gestured towards Ren, then provocatively said to the security personnel, "Look, you should all learn from him. Although I don't have any mediocre subordinates, Ren is definitely at the top of the pyramid. You should also do something, shouldn't you?" After saying that, he revealed a smug smile.
Ren smiled slightly in his heart, knowing that Samir liked to pave the way for himself in this way and create an atmosphere for the upcoming conversation. However, he also genuinely appreciated Samir's intelligence and methods. After all, these two had formed a tacit understanding after so many years of collaboration.
Samir waved his hand gently, with a hint of mystery in his smile. He gestured for Ren to sit in the adjacent position to the luxurious and comfortable sofa. Ren felt the atmosphere in this VIP room, which was quieter than other parts of the club, as if it were an independent world in this bustling city.
Samir's gaze moved to the unopened bottle of whiskey on the table. He gently touched the exquisite bottle and admired the golden glow emanating from it. "This whiskey," he began, with a hint of pride in his tone, "is a 1987 Glenfarclas single malt Scotch whiskey. Its birth took place in the old Scottish Highlands, crafted by experienced distillers."
He picked up the bottle, gently unscrewed the cap, allowing the faint aroma to escape. "Can you smell the blend of fruit, caramel, and oak?" he asked Ren, while slowly pouring the whiskey into two glasses.
"I remember," Samir continued, a glint of reminiscence in his eyes, "that time at the auction in Night City, the price for this bottle of wine kept getting higher and higher, reaching an astonishing number in the end. But believe me, this bottle of wine is absolutely worth it."
He raised his own glass, the light passing through the golden liquid, reflecting brilliant colors. Ren smiled slightly and also raised his glass. Samir looked at Ren and slowly said, "For our past, those moments of joy and danger, and for the more adventures we may encounter in the future."
Ren nodded and lightly clinked glasses with Samir, both enjoying the moment brought by the fine wine.
As the strong liquor slowly flowed down his throat, bringing that unique warmth and stimulation, Samir showed a satisfied smile on his face. He slowly put down the glass, a hint of inquiry in his eyes, and asked, "Ren, how was your 'little adventure' at Kang Tao yesterday? Everything went smoothly?"
Ren took a deep breath, as if recalling yesterday's events, then took out a shining crystal from his pocket and placed it on the table. The crystal had a unique appearance, with a surface full of high-tech textures, and a faint blue light shimmering, as if proving the value of the data stored inside.
"Everything is here," Ren said, pointing to the crystal with confidence. "Of course, there were some minor troubles along the way, but in the end, I successfully obtained the documents."
Samir reached out and gently picked up the parcel, examining it closely. He nodded slightly, his eyes expressing affirmation and admiration for Ren: "As I expected, you truly are a trustworthy person. The completion of this mission holds great significance for us. With these documents, we will have a greater advantage in the marketplace."
Ren smiled slightly, a hint of satisfaction in his expression: "That's my job, Samir. As long as the price you offer is attractive enough, I believe there is more room for cooperation."
After listening to Ren's report, Miller laughed heartily. He reached out to stroke his golden beard, his gaze shifting to Ren, and praised, "Every time I work with you, Ren, it's a pleasure. I really wish all the Mercenaries in Night City had your skill and intelligence."
He picked up the glass by his side, took a sip, and then sighed deeply, with a helpless expression on his face. "But reality is always cruel. You have no idea how many so-called 'expert-level' Mercenaries I've encountered in the past. They always like to exaggerate their abilities, accept high advance payments, and then bring me a lot of trouble."
He gave a sarcastic smile, "Sometimes, I really doubt how they got into this line of work. Some people, during secret operations, actually post their location on social media, asking for trouble. And then there are those who take on missions to steal secrets, only to forget the classified documents on public transportation."
Samir rubbed his temples, sounding displeased, "Not to mention those who love to show off and lack common sense. After receiving a mission, their first thought isn't about execution, but about how to show off their 'big mission' at the nightclub, only to be caught by the enemy on the eve of the operation."
He put down his glass and stared sharply at Ren: "Ren, you are one of the top mercenaries in Night City, and I sincerely hope to have more people like you. Sometimes, it's really not easy to find a reliable partner. I'm not just looking for someone who can carry a gun on their shoulder, I need an expert who can execute the mission perfectly."
