Suddenly, the oppressive silence was shattered. A faint yet chilling voice came from a distance. It sounded like a bound soul struggling to escape or convey a message: "Help... me..." The voice seemed to be in indescribable pain, each word filled with sorrow and every syllable exuding despair.
As the cries for help continued, a cold breeze seemed to sweep through the air, sending shivers down Mary's spine. Her face drained of color, and the feeling of terror made it nearly impossible for her to breathe. Involuntarily, she let out a piercing scream, like the mournful cry of a startled dove.
Kevin instinctively and quickly covered Mary's mouth, afraid that the owner of the unknown voice or some kind of force in the space might hear. His eyes were deep, reflecting the danger of the environment, and he whispered to Mary, "Shh, don't make a sound."
The three of them listened intently, the sound of their heartbeats unusually loud in this suffocating environment. In this moment, their heartbeats seemed to be the loudest noise. They looked at each other, with a hint of hesitation and unease in their eyes.
Alan took a deep breath, trying to calm himself down. He spoke with logic and a calm analysis, "We are now in an unknown situation. That sound, undoubtedly alluring, may mean someone needs help, but it could also be some kind of eerie trap. In this situation, we must be cautious. Reckless action without proper preparation and awareness could lead to disaster."
Kevin took a deep breath of the cold air and looked around the hazy darkness. There was a hint of determination and persistence in his eyes, as if he held a different kind of expectation for this unknown environment.
"Actually, Alan, I don't agree with your point of view," he said slowly, with a slightly stubborn tone in his voice. "We don't have much information right now, and we're not sure about the outside environment. But we can't just stay here and let time pass. The injured person might know something, and if we can help him, maybe he can provide us with some useful information about this place."
Kevin paused and then continued, "And, the three of us have always supported each other. Now, facing this situation, we can't give up exploring just because of fear. I believe that as long as the three of us work together, nothing can stop us from moving forward."
Alan frowned slightly, feeling clearly the persistence and courage of Kevin, but he still had some doubts. He said quietly, "I understand what you mean, Kevin, but I still feel that we should be more cautious. After all, everything here is too strange, and we can't be sure if that person is a friend or foe."
Kevin's eyes were determined, "If we just hide here and don't investigate, then we may never know the truth here. Moreover, in the face of danger, we should bravely confront it, rather than avoid it."
Alan took a deep breath, allowing the cool air to fill his lungs. His eyes clearly revealed a struggle and hesitation. Each breath seemed to carry the weight of possible future choices, and his furrowed brow showed his inner turmoil. His mouth opened as if to speak, but then closed again.
Just as Alan was about to continue speaking, the words on the tip of his tongue, he was interrupted by a sudden sound from the corner. Mary, who had been curled up there, her eyes red from crying, unexpectedly lifted her head, and a determined light shone in her blue eyes.
"I actually think Kevin makes sense," her voice started off slightly soft, but as she continued speaking, it gradually grew stronger, filled with determination. "I don't want to just sit here and do nothing, trapped in this unknown place, watching the uncertainty of the future unfold before us. If there's even a slight possibility, I think we should take the risk, explore, and seek answers."
She continued, "Every inch of this land, every wisp of air here is filled with unfamiliarity and unease. If we choose to do nothing, I'm afraid we'll only lose more control and be trapped in this world full of mysteries."
Alan quietly watched Mary, he understood that it was not just Mary's thoughts, but her innermost desires and determination. He sighed, his lips curled up slightly, revealing a bitter smile: "I know I can't force you, but I have only one request. We must ensure each other's safety. No matter what difficulties we encounter, as soon as the situation starts to become dangerous, we must evacuate immediately, not giving danger any chance."
The three continued walking in the large underground hall. The interior of the hall was simply decorated, with the walls and pillars covered in the same colored wallpaper, and the top filled with rectangular lighting, making the whole space as bright as daylight.
Kevin's footsteps were somewhat hesitant, and his gaze swept around, as if searching for the source of that mysterious sound. This hall was completely different from the game environments he had experienced before, lacking the adventurous and challenging feeling of the game, and instead resembling a commercial place in reality.
Mary tightly grasped Kevin's hand, her eyes revealing confusion and curiosity. "Is this really a part of the game?" she asked in puzzlement.
Alan remained calm and surveyed the surroundings, attempting to analyze the structure and function of the place. He whispered to Kevin, "I feel like this is not just an ordinary scene. It could be a special location in the game, or an area hidden for some reason."
After about ten minutes, the sound seemed to become clearer. It wasn't a single call, but rather an echo of various sounds, as if reflecting in a hollow hall. Kevin stopped in his tracks, feeling uneasy, but he knew they had no way back. He took a deep breath and continued forward, leading the team towards the unknown depths.
