Alan Gently pulling out the long sword from his waist, the blade shimmered with a cold light in the faint glow. His palm was already moist, but he firmly held the sword and shield in his hand, every movement appearing deliberate.
Kevin picked up a heavy axe, its blade showing some rust but still incredibly sharp. A flame of unwavering determination burned in his eyes, standing tall even in the face of unknown fear.
Mary delicately drew a feathered arrow from her quiver, the taut bowstring reflecting her inner tension. Her breath became somewhat rapid, but she still made an effort to stay calm, ready to release that deadly arrow at any moment.
Three people nodded to each other, confirmed their equipment, and then evenly distributed the remaining items into their respective backpacks. Kevin suggested, "We should stay alert, nothing here is like what we know from ' Minecraft.'"
After confirming their equipment, the three nodded to each other, indicating that they were ready to face whatever lay ahead. However, as they continued walking forward, a strange sight entered their field of vision.
A dark gray humanoid entity appeared on the road. This entity had no obvious limbs, ears, or facial features, just a simple human silhouette. Even more eerie, its body surface continuously dripped a tar-like substance, forming a black puddle on the ground. Each time the tar dripped, it made a "drip" sound, contrasting with the sound of dripping water in the dungeon, evoking a chilling fear in the hearts of people.
Mary's eyes widened as she whispered, "I have never seen this kind of creature in a game before."
Alan tightly gripped the sword handle and warned, "Be careful, everything here is different from the original game setting. We don't know what abilities it may have."
Kevin also said seriously, "Yes, we must remain vigilant at all times and not approach it easily."
The presence of the creature instilled fear in the three individuals, but surprisingly, it did not seem to intend to attack them actively. The humanoid entity, in its deep gray color, stood quietly in place without making any aggressive movements. However, this stillness did not imply peace. From the tar dripping off its surface and its irregular contours, all three could sense a strong sense of oppression, as if every cell of the creature was silently observing their every move.
Kevin and Mary tightly gripped their weapons, anticipating what might happen next, and focused intently on the creature. Mary began to breathe more rapidly, while Kevin remained resolute, unwilling to back down easily.
In this extremely tense atmosphere, Alan suddenly spoke, his voice low and somewhat hoarse: "How about we turn back and try a different route? Confronting this thing head-on is not a good choice."
Mary nodded, apparently agreeing with this view, while Kevin hesitated for a moment, and finally agreed with Alan's suggestion.
The three of them cautiously stepped back a few paces, making sure not to provoke the humanoid entities, then turned around, attempting to find another way out. Even though they had chosen to avoid direct conflict with the creatures, the oppressive feeling still lingered in their minds, reminding them of the unknown dangers lurking in this dungeon.
As the three of them traversed the dim, narrow corridor, the heavy atmosphere made every step feel like plunging into endless darkness. Kevin and Mary kept looking back from time to time, as if something might attack them from behind at any moment.
Kevin Swallowing hard, Kevin's eyes filled with confusion. "I really don't understand what's going on here. How is this different from a game? Why did we suddenly fall from the game into a place like this?"
Mary Holding herself tightly, her voice trembling, Mary said, "I've encountered similar scenes in the game before, but that was just data and pixels. How could it feel so real? The atmosphere, the smell, and even our emotions here are exactly like the real world."
Alan paused for a moment, a hint of concern in his eyes behind his glasses. He said, "This is the backroom, a space that exists between the game and reality. I've only read about it in some literature before, but I never thought I would experience it firsthand."
He took a deep breath and continued, "The backroom has a very complex structure. It's more like an intersecting multi-dimensional universe, with each floor corresponding to different time and dimensions. Some floors here are so dangerous that once you step in, there's almost no chance of survival. But there are also some floors that hide the secrets to breaking through the backroom."
Kevin listened to Alan's words and couldn't help but ask, "So, are we trapped here now? Is there any way out?"
Alan looked earnestly at the two of them and said, "The vast majority of backroom stories end in tragedy. Many people lose their way here, and some can never leave. However, there are indeed records mentioning that certain floors have special powers that can help people return to reality. But where these floors are and how to reach them are all unknown."
Three people continued to walk forward in silence. Although they knew that this so-called backroom was full of unknowns and dangers, staying in place would be just as perilous. The nearby corridor gradually widened, appearing increasingly desolate and empty. In this weathered place, it seemed like every corner held some kind of secret.
Suddenly, the once calm fluorescent lights began to flicker irregularly, each flicker carrying a strange rhythm, as if sending some kind of signal to them. The light from the ceiling cast unstable shadows over the heads of the three, causing extreme unease.
Mary tightly grabbed Kevin's hand, her face filled with fear. "Did you hear that?" she asked in a low voice.
It was a kind of distant howling, neither human nor entirely animal. The sound seemed to come from the depths of the darkness, and it was getting closer, as if some creature was rapidly approaching them.
