Rao Jie was taken aback, her eyes wide as she blinked at Long Yong. "Senior, you..."
Long Yong smiled reassuringly. "I don't mind. Since you stood me up this time, I'll just consider it that you owe me two meals. You have to make it up to me later, no backing out!"
Rao Jie let out a huge sigh of relief. Long Yong's timely understanding always warmed her heart, alleviating her immediate worries. She felt so grateful to him that she didn't know what to say.
How could there be such a wonderful senior? So gentle and considerate, and so good to her...
Rao Jie felt a stir in her heart and thought for a moment before saying earnestly, "I will definitely make it up to you. Let's set a date next time; I promise I won't stand you up again!"
Long Yong beamed brightly, signaling for Rao Jie to hurry and get in touch!
Rao Jie quickly called Wu Rong. The call connected almost immediately, and Wu Rong's fierce voice came through.
"Where on earth have you been? You're not hiding somewhere crying, are you?"
Rao Jie: ??????
"Sorry, Professor Wu. I thought you had already left. I just forgot to turn my phone on; I was about to grab a bite outside the school. Do you want to join me?" Rao Jie asked hopefully.
Upon hearing this, Long Yong's gaze softened even more as he looked at Rao Jie, as if his earlier frustration was fading away.
But the answer was predictably a refusal.
"It's too dirty over there! No matter what you're eating now, put it down and come here right away!"
"You... you're still in the parking lot?" Rao Jie said apologetically while glancing at Long Yong.
Long Yong raised an eyebrow, indicating that it was fine; he could hear Wu Rong's voice too.
"Of course!" Wu Rong snapped back with irritation before hanging up the call.
Rao Jie didn’t want to waste any more time. After tidying up and apologizing profusely to Long Yong once more, she hurried back to the school.
As she neared the parking lot, she spotted Wu Rong from a distance, leaning against his car door with his head down, looking at his phone.
A gentle breeze rustled the fallen maple leaves around him. Dressed in a light ink-green trench coat, he leaned casually against the car with his legs crossed, accentuating his tall figure. His profile was strikingly handsome with well-defined features.
The scene resembled something out of a photoshoot for a magazine cover.
If Wu Rong struck just a few casual poses, a photographer could capture the perfect shot for the front page.
Watching this scene unfold, Rao Jie's heart gradually calmed down. It was a strange feeling; after finishing her exams, she had longed to see Wu Rong the most but had been delayed until now.
Now that she finally saw him, however, Rao Jie found herself hesitating to approach him.
That feeling of "not being in the same world" inexplicably resurfaced. Rao Jie stood there, staring blankly. If it weren't for Wu Rong suddenly sensing the gaze, she probably wouldn't have known how long Rao Jie would be lost in thought!
Wu Rong looked up and saw the silly expression on Rao Jie's face. She immediately frowned and raised her voice slightly, saying, "What are you doing standing there like an idiot? Come over here!"
Rao Jie snapped back to reality and couldn't help but skip over to her. However, just as Rao Jie got closer, Wu Rong suddenly raised her hand. Thinking Wu Rong was about to hit her, Rao Jie quickly lowered her head and closed her eyes, bracing herself for the impact. But all she felt was a light tap on her forehead.
"I was wondering if you were hiding in the bathroom crying, but it turns out you were out here enjoying yourself. Looks like you did well on the exam," Wu Rong said with a hint of amusement.
Rao Jie looked up at Wu Rong in surprise. Wu Rong wasn't angry; instead, there was a gentle smile on her face. Rao Jie let out a sigh of relief and happily replied, "Professor Wu, thank you! I really felt like I got everything right on the math test today. I've never felt this good before."
