Lin Xinghe finished reading the news and swallowed the remaining Stardust Mask in one gulp, crumpling the packaging and tossing it into the trash bin.
He stood up and walked toward the boarding gate of the starship, presenting his Identity Chip. A blue light scanned it, and the gate opened.
Stepping onto the ship, he found his seat and placed his backpack in the overhead compartment. As the ship trembled during takeoff, Lin Xinghe closed his eyes and leaned back in his seat, thoughts swirling in his mind about the contents of the Genetic Test Report and Su Qing's anxious voice on the communicator: "Xinghe, you need to come to Celestial Pivot Star right away. This report... it might concern both of us..."
His brow furrowed as he unconsciously tapped his fingers on the armrest, a storm of thoughts raging within him.
Once the ship stabilized in flight, a sweet voice from the intercom announced, "Dear passengers, we are approaching Celestial Pivot Star. Please prepare for arrival..."
Lin Xinghe opened his eyes. Outside the window, the brilliance of Celestial Pivot Star became increasingly clear—a planet a hundred times more prosperous than Canglan Star, with towering buildings reaching into the clouds, crisscrossing aerial tracks, and neon-lit advertisements that showcased its technology and wealth.
Exiting the interstellar port, a rush of fresh air greeted him, mixed with a faint floral scent emanating from unique local plants. He took a deep breath and hailed a hovercar. "To Su Qing's house, 18 Zijinghua Road."
The hovercar glided smoothly along the aerial track as Lin Xinghe gazed out at the rapidly passing scenery. The splendor of Celestial Pivot Star left him somewhat dazed, starkly contrasting with the desolation of Canglan Star.
He recalled his childhood when Su Qing first visited Canglan Star and curiously asked him, "Xinghe, why don’t you have aerial tracks here? And why are your buildings so short?" He had only smiled at her question without answering.
The hovercar stopped at 18 Zijinghua Road. Lin Xinghe paid the fare and approached an elegant European-style villa, pressing the doorbell.
Soon, a middle-aged man dressed in a butler's uniform opened the door. "You must be Mr. Lin Xinghe? Miss has been waiting for you for quite some time. Please come in."
The butler respectfully ushered him inside.
The living room of Su Qing's home was spacious and bright, with a crystal chandelier casting soft light over expensive furniture arranged neatly around the room. Renowned paintings adorned the walls, creating an atmosphere of luxury and refinement.
Su Qing was sitting on the sofa in a simple yet elegant long dress. Her face appeared slightly pale. Upon seeing Lin Xinghe enter, she immediately stood up and hurried to him. "Xinghe, you finally made it."
Her voice trembled slightly, revealing a hint of anxiety in her eyes.
"I was delayed on my way." Lin Xinghe set his backpack aside and sat down on the sofa opposite her as the butler brought two cups of Fragrant Tea before quietly retreating.
"I’ve already looked over the Genetic Test Report. What are your thoughts?" he asked directly, his gaze sharp as he focused on Su Qing.
Su Qing picked up her teacup and took a gentle sip before placing it down again. She clasped her hands together on her lap, her gaze evasive. "This report... shows that our genes have a 99.99% similarity rate; it's almost like... we're twins."
She spoke hesitantly, struggling to articulate her thoughts.
Lin Xinghe frowned slightly. "That’s impossible; we have no blood relation whatsoever. Besides, my genes have always been classified as S-level potential but unable to unlock. Yet this report indicates that my Gene Lock has been opened."
His tone was steady, but inside, he was tumultuous.
"I know this is hard to believe, but... the report is real. I... I'm shocked as well."
Su Qing lifted her head, her gaze firmly fixed on Lin Xinghe. "Xinghe, I suspect that this report... might be related to the Gu Family... and my engagement."
She bit her lip, as if she had made a resolution. "I canceled the wedding not only because I discovered Gu Yunze's true nature but also because of his family's genetic history... This report... is likely something they fabricated to cover up the truth."
Lin Xinghe fell silent for a moment, his fingers lightly tapping on the armrest of the sofa. "Do you have any evidence?" he asked.
Su Qing took a deep breath. "I... I overheard a conversation between Gu Yunze and his father..."
Her voice was low, her eyes dimmed. "They... they were discussing how to handle this report, how to... make me believe... that you are the one who truly possesses the bloodline of the Gu Family..."
By the end, her voice was barely audible.
Lin Xinghe's expression hardened as he suddenly stood up and walked to the floor-to-ceiling window, gazing out at the brilliantly lit city, his mind racing with thoughts.
He turned back to Su Qing. "I will get to the bottom of this," he said firmly, his eyes glinting with determination.
He picked up his backpack, preparing to leave.
"Wait a moment, Xinghe," Su Qing called out to him, rising to stand beside him. She pulled a USB drive from the drawer and handed it to him. "This is internal information from the Gu Family that I copied; it might help you."
