Rao Jie spoke as she raised her hands high, stretching them wide to express her delight. Wu Rong looked down at her, his small face flushed with excitement, making him look radiant and captivating. It stirred something within him; after realizing his feelings for Rao Jie, he found it hard to restrain himself in many situations. His body reacted before he could think, and when Rao Jie stood defenseless before him with her arms raised, he couldn't help but wrap his arms around her.
Rao Jie’s smile froze instantly, her body seeming to halt as if it had lost power.
"Wu... Professor Wu?"
Wu Rong tightened his embrace, unconsciously rubbing his chin against her small shoulder.
"I’m glad too; you didn’t let my teachings go to waste."
Though Rao Jie felt touched by his words, the situation was undeniably strange. In the school parking lot, with people potentially walking by at any moment, Wu Rong was holding her close. How could he not shake off this habit from a foreign country? If they were at home, it might be different...
No, no, no!
Was her mind being poisoned?
It wouldn’t be acceptable at home either!
What would it look like for a girl to be held by a man like this?
Rao Jie quickly began to panic, patting Wu Rong's broad shoulders anxiously, her voice rising in pitch.
"Professor Wu... let go of me... I told you that hugging between the opposite sex isn’t practiced here!"
Wu Rong smirked slightly. "I know!"
He knew? What did that mean?
Rao Jie’s mind went blank again until Wu Rong finally released her after what seemed like enough time.
"Let’s go eat," he said casually before turning around and opening the car door as if nothing had happened.
Rao Jie stood there in a daze, unsure how to react. She truly never understood Wu Rong's way of handling things; it was far too difficult to navigate their interactions. She felt she should be embarrassed or angry, but looking at Wu Rong's serious demeanor made her feel that such reactions might be overly dramatic.
Wu Xin once said that Wu Rong didn't particularly like women because they were foolish and troublesome. The only woman he had ever praised was the former mathematician Rosa, the mother of recursive function theory.
Thus, Rao Jie felt that there was no point in being upset with someone like Wu Rong, who didn't regard women as women.
Just as Rao Jie was lost in her thoughts, Wu Rong lowered the window, snapped his fingers, and said, "What are you daydreaming about? Let's go!"
Only then did Rao Jie snap out of her chaotic thoughts and get into the car like a fool.
However, after they left the parking lot, someone emerged from the small road beside it. It was Jiang Chuchu, who had just had a fight with Bao Ming and was crying while running around.
Jiang Chuchu hadn't expected to find such an explosive scene when she arrived here. Tears still stained her cheeks, but her eyes were filled with fierce determination as she silently put away her phone and sneered. If Rao Jie really wanted to compete with her, she wouldn't back down.
Jiang Chuchu couldn't help but think back to when she had just encountered Bao Ming. She had been so happy, thinking Bao Ming had come to pick her up. Instead, because of Rao Jie’s situation, she sought comfort from Bao Ming, only to be told that she should voluntarily give up her chance for a Graduate School Recommendation.
She was supposed to make way for Rao Jie!
She asked why.
Bao Ming replied that both of them owed Rao Jie an apology and thus needed to repay their debt.
In that moment, Jiang Chuchu slapped Bao Ming across the face. Why should she give way to Rao Jie? That opportunity was rightfully hers.
Bao Ming belonged to her; the Graduate School Recommendation belonged to her. It was Rao Jie who insisted on competing with her for it.
She had never admitted to taking Bao Ming from Rao Jie because Bao Ming had always been stolen away from her by Rao Jie in the first place.
