Rao Jie forced a laugh, treating Wu Rong's words as a joke. After all, as a mathematician, he had always looked down on fields like economics. Besides, how could she possibly become a pastry chef? It was something she had never even considered. After all, this was just a hobby; how could a student who graduated from a prestigious university and successfully passed the entrance exams suddenly abandon her studies to become a pastry chef?
While an excellent pastry chef deserved respect, most people generally believed that such a career was for those who hadn’t made it to college. However, unlike Rao Jie, Wu Rong wasn’t joking at all. The two didn’t continue discussing that topic and shifted their conversation to other matters. According to the customs of Shencheng University, the grades from the first semester of senior year would be included in the Graduate School Recommendation assessment. Soon enough, the results would be released, and the Graduate School Recommendation slots would be announced. If she secured one of those spots, there would be no need for her to take the entrance exams.
However, until the list was finalized, Rao Jie’s situation remained precarious. She was someone who valued stability greatly; thus, she kept her first choice focused on taking the entrance exams while treating the Graduate School Recommendation as merely a backup plan. She would still ask Wu Rong for tutoring assistance and wouldn’t stop studying just because she was waiting for the Graduate School Recommendation results. She worked hard every single day without fail.
Of course, Wu Rong was more than happy to have such an excuse to get closer to her.
Not long after, the results were released. Rao Jie’s hard work paid off; she scored full marks in mathematics.
One morning, while Rao Jie was preparing breakfast for Wu Rong, her phone suddenly rang. She quickly set down what she was doing and rushed to answer it. It turned out to be a call from a senior.
“Hello?”
“Rao Jie! Congratulations! I’ve checked the list; you’re on the Graduate School Recommendation list! You did it! You’re going to be my junior again!”
Rao Jie was so shocked that she nearly dropped her phone. Just then, Wu Rong walked out and saw Rao Jie looking completely startled; he approached her in confusion.
Rao Jie clutched her phone tightly, her voice slightly hoarse. “Really? I really got the Graduate School Recommendation? How come I didn’t hear about this?”
Long Yong continued talking on the other end of the line for quite some time before Rao Jie finally believed that she wasn’t dreaming. After hanging up, she turned to see Wu Rong standing nearby, having been there for quite a while already. Excitement bubbled within her as she struggled to find her voice.
As Wu Rong watched Rao Jie excitedly answer the phone, she had already sent a message to Ye Ming. Ye Ming checked and confirmed that it was indeed a success.
Seeing Rao Jie, who was so thrilled that she didn't know what to do with herself, Wu Rong said, "Congratulations! I've already confirmed it with Ye Ming."
Rao Jie, filled with surprise, rushed over to Wu Rong but suddenly stopped in her tracks. She felt like she was about to explode with joy but didn't know how to express it; her hands and feet were tense and unsure of where to go.
Wu Rong chuckled and opened her arms wide, saying, "Do you want a hug? Let's celebrate together! Good things are meant to be shared, especially since I played a significant role in this."
Rao Jie knew very well that if it weren't for Wu Rong... if she hadn't come here, she would never have encountered such wonderful news. Perhaps overwhelmed with happiness and unsure of how to react, or maybe just accustomed to Wu Rong's antics, she let go of all her inhibitions and embraced Wu Rong, who was standing there with open arms.
