"We don't like to avoid problems; isn't it better to solve them so that we no longer feel threatened?"
After hearing Xu Nuan's words, Xu Hang responded and then moved to the side front of Gu Ze, holding an axe. His gaze swept around, seemingly contemplating the best way to hunt.
Gu Ze took a moment to glance at the frowning Xu Nuan, his tone still warm and even carrying a hint of reassurance.
"You all stay in the trees; it will be resolved soon, so there's no need to worry."
Deng Yinyin, who had been anxiously watching Gu Ze's shoulders, now looked smugly at Xu Nuan, her tone laced with disdain.
"You don't need to help; you can stop worrying. None of us are cowards here!"
Not far away, Tang Jingshu and Xie Huai also nodded in agreement from their perch in a tree.
At this moment, Xu Nuan chose silence.
This was the divergence—the difference in their attitudes toward the game.
She had been playing alone for so long, and today marked the second day these five had joined her in the game.
Just as in real life, avoidance leads to elimination. As young adults in their mid-twenties, they had spent years navigating the corporate world and had come to understand social rules. Did those rules change when they entered this Game Base?
Xu Nuan didn't know. What she did know was that these five were full of pride but lacked experience.
She should be treated with indifference.
Xu Nuan slowly loosened her grip, a few pieces of thin bark embedded into her nails, but she remained oblivious. Her gaze swept past her fallen backpack, and due to the thrashing movements of the trapped Steel-Toothed Crocodile, she noticed that the opening of her backpack had gaped slightly, revealing something that had been pushed to the front.
Xu Nuan's pupils constricted sharply. She wanted to jump down from the tree but was held back by a surge of fear, ultimately choosing to watch coldly from above.
The hunting strategy below continued.
The injured Gu Ze still served as bait, while Deng Yinyin was responsible for enhancing the double lure. Xu Hang stood ready with an axe.
The heavy scent of blood filled the air, some belonging to Gu Ze and some to the trapped Steel-Toothed Crocodile.
Xu Nuan's gaze swept over, and she gasped in horror as she realized that the Steel-Toothed Crocodile intended to sacrifice its tail to escape its bindings. The short knife that had pierced through the ground and into the crocodile was beginning to loosen under this immense force. It was only a matter of time before the Steel-Toothed Crocodile broke free.
Xu Nuan raised her eyes, wanting to alert the injured man, but found that the hunt had officially begun below.
The Steel-Toothed Crocodile lunged at Gu Ze. Gu Ze pulled Deng Yinyin aside, pushing her toward a temporarily safe direction while he agilely sidestepped. In a swift motion, he rolled to the side of the Steel-Toothed Crocodile and plunged his short knife deep into its eye before it could react.
The Steel-Toothed Crocodile let out a pained roar and turned to attack Gu Ze, who was weakened from blood loss, exposing its soft underbelly in the process. Seizing the opportunity, Xu Hang decisively swung his axe toward that vulnerable spot, causing blood to gush forth and quickly stain the grass red.
With some relief, Gu Ze was able to pull out his knife and shake off his hand before plunging it down again with force, delivering another painful blow to the Steel-Toothed Crocodile.
Xu Nuan couldn't help but admire the keen observational skills of these two men. Like animals, humans are often most protective of their hidden vulnerabilities when they excel in certain areas. This modified Steel-Toothed Crocodile could thrive on land but had lost its advantages in water. Its hard exterior was meant to protect its soft underbelly, just as iron teeth could not shield its fragile eyes.
Finding the opponent's weakness and delivering a fatal blow is the mark of a true victor.
Xu Nuan thought to herself that perhaps she shouldn't have underestimated their confidence; instead, it was she who had been hesitant since entering the game.
However, surprises often occur when least expected.
