As He Min dealt with the wolf in a clean and decisive manner, Yu Yu was being tormented by another wolf, leaving him battered and bruised. He began to regret his hesitation; if he had climbed the tree quickly when He Min suggested it, he wouldn't have to face this wolf that wanted to swallow him whole at this moment.
However, Yu Yu still held his ground, refusing to immediately seek help from He Min and instead fighting alone.
He Min was quite pleased, standing aside to watch the battle between one man and one wolf. From her perspective as an observer, it was only a matter of time before Yu Yu would lose. He struggled to avoid being bitten in a vital area, barely managing to keep his name intact. Yet, his arms and thighs were already bitten by the wolf, with some parts even torn away, leaving gory wounds that looked quite gruesome, blood oozing out and the edges of the wounds uneven.
He Min felt a bit nauseous but managed to hold it back. Turning her gaze away, she looked at the dead wolf at her feet. The wolf had died with its throat slit, its death reminiscent of Fan Beibei's, leaving a pool of crimson in He Min's eyes.
Because its carotid artery had been severed, blood flowed everywhere, the stench so strong that it could not be washed away by Heavy Rain.
It was then that He Min realized something was amiss. Normally, this stage was Love Path, where groups would act separately and encounter different traps that required choices. The outcomes of those choices either plunged them into danger or allowed them to proceed smoothly. These traps were designed to torment them both physically and mentally, destroying trust among groups and forcing more people to fight for their own interests. This way, fewer individuals could safely leave.
In other words, the appearance of all these beasts was intentional; they were controlled and served the traps.
The two wolves were an accident—something the System had failed to manage in time. Suddenly realizing this, He Min felt a wave of anxiety wash over her, sensing that something was slipping out of her control.
She quickly glanced at Yu Yu, who was now exhausted. The wounds appearing on his body and the blood flowing from them made him increasingly uncomfortable. He finally realized that he could not defeat this wolf on his own. To survive and leave this game alive, he would have to bow down and seek help from He Min.
Holding onto the belief that a true man can bend and stretch as needed, Yu Yu ultimately yielded to He Min. He resembled a defeated rooster, feathers drooping and stained with blood; beneath that blood lay wounds that represented his shame rather than any honor.
What Yu Yu did not know was that even if he hadn't surrendered, He Min was already prepared to help him.
Realizing the timing of the wolves' appearance was wrong filled He Min with immense unease; she couldn't wait to leave this place.
After stepping in to help Yu Yu deal with the wolf, He Min urgently wanted him to leave quickly.
"This place isn't safe; we should hurry up and get out."
He Min forced herself to soften her tone while alone, but Yu Yu, caught up in his own thoughts about not being as capable as women, misinterpreted her words as mockery—mocking him and those wounds that had drained his strength and spirit. His tone suddenly turned harsh.
"Why are you in such a hurry? Can't you let me tend to my wounds?"
Yu Yu's expression was fierce, embodying the essence of the phrase "strong on the outside, weak on the inside."
"You killed both wolves, and the rain won't stop anytime soon. Staying here is the best choice!"
Yu Yu's arrogant attitude angered He Min. If it weren't for the fact that Yu Yu was still useful as a mediator, He Min would have turned and left, allowing the severely injured Yu Yu to fend for himself.
"This place is dangerous; we need to leave quickly."
He Min managed to say this much, but just as her words fell, she heard hurried footsteps. They were far away, but due to their numbers, they sounded overwhelming in the rainy night. Her expression changed abruptly as she roughly grabbed Yu Yu by the collar.
This humiliating action caused Yu Yu's face to change as well. Lacking He Min's keen sense of danger, he was oblivious to the approaching threat and was instead preoccupied with his own pride as a man.
"Are you crazy? What do you mean we shouldn't stay? You must have a persecution complex!"
Yu Yu's face flushed red, looking quite ridiculous in the rain.
He Min could hardly bear to have Yu Yu there, but her intelligence and experience allowed her to suppress her anger. Instead, she directly dragged Yu Yu into a nearby thicket.
Yu Yu was furious and struggled fiercely. After all, he was a man and still had strength to resist He Min.
The two of them tugged at each other in the heavy rain, with two dead wolves lying nearby. The blood from their bodies stained the area but was quickly washed away by the rain.
Yu Yu's struggles and curses wasted precious time. Even when He Min finally managed to pull him into the thicket not far away, they were still surrounded by a rapidly approaching pack of wolves.
Typically, when wolves set out, they announce their presence with howls. This time, if He Min hadn't heard the footsteps, they wouldn't have known about the wolves creeping closer amidst the sound of rain.
"What’s going on with these wolves?"
Yu Yu's legs went weak at once, and he forgot that He Min was still holding onto his collar. If Xu Nuan and the others saw him like this now, they would surely be incredulous. In everyone else's eyes, Yu Yu was someone who valued his image greatly—perhaps appearing refined but with an underlying toughness; he would never show such cowardice as he did at this moment.
He Min would not be surprised by this; in such a large team, no one understood Yu Yu better than she did, knowing him to be a coward who craved wealth and comfort. However, she had no right to mock someone like Yu Yu. She was no different from him, and the people gathered around that figure were just like Yu Yu. After all, who would willingly allow themselves to be manipulated?
The wolf pack was closing in, their green eyes lighting up the path to death.
Having figured out the routine of this level, He Min knew that the appearance of these wolves was an accident. But the System would not take responsibility for accidents; it was always the weaker Players who suffered.
"He Min, what should we do?"
The rapid loss of blood made it difficult for Yu Yu to think clearly. Instinctively, he grabbed He Min's hand, only to be shaken off by her in disdain.
"Shut up!"
He Min growled, panic barely concealed on her face as she forced herself to stay calm. The chance of escaping the wolf pack with an injured Yu Yu was less than one percent. The only way to resolve the current crisis was to negotiate with the System. The System would not take responsibility for mistakes but could impose certain requirements on the Players to give them a glimmer of hope.
Just as a group of wolves from the innermost circle was about to pounce, the System's voice rang out.
"The appearance of the wolf pack is our error. We can no longer retract these wolves; the only solution is to quickly teleport the Players to the Supply Station."
He Min and Yu Yu saw that the wolves had been immobilized, yet they continued to snarl, seemingly ready to attack at any moment. Both understood immediately that the System could no longer control these wolves.
Yu Yu shouted in desperation.
"Then hurry up and send us to the Supply Station!"
In contrast, He Min remained much calmer. She had anticipated that there was a reason for the System's pause. Sure enough, after Yu Yu's question, the System slowly responded.
"I'm sorry, but there is insufficient energy at your location to operate; only one person can be teleported immediately to the Supply Station."
Before either of them could react, the System quickly continued.
"Both of you only have ten seconds to think. After ten seconds, the wolf pack will go out of control, and by then, the base will be powerless."
Yu Yu's mouth fell open, unable to accept this choice. Due to excessive blood loss, his mind wasn't as sharp as usual. By the time he realized what was happening and instinctively grabbed a knife to strike at He Min, she had already plunged a short blade into his heart and expressionlessly twisted it.
"You!"
Yu Yu could only let out a short gasp before collapsing to the ground.
He Min let out a cold laugh. Her rain-soaked hand showed no sign of trembling, and she did not withdraw the short blade; instead, she bent down to pick up the knife from Yu Yu's hand.
"Your reaction was too slow. Don't worry, I will explain everything to that person."
Her icy voice quickly dissipated into the air, and soon, He Min's figure vanished.
Almost in the next moment, the wolves sprang into action. Upon seeing the still-warm corpse on the ground, they rushed forward eagerly, tearing at Yu Yu.
"Ah!"
Xu Nuan jolted upright, her large almond-shaped eyes filled with panic.
"Nuan, what happened?"
Gu Ze had just entered the cave and hurried over, anxiously gripping Xu Nuan's shoulders and checking her up and down.
"Did you have another nightmare?"
Xu Nuan shook her head, still groggy from the medication she had received at noon. She looked at Gu Ze with slightly dazed eyes, taking a while before finally meeting his gaze.
"Ze?"
Xu Nuan blinked and rubbed her head, feeling quite confused.
"It seems like it, but I can't remember clearly."
"If you can't remember, then don't think about it."
Gu Ze gently patted Xu Nuan's back as if soothing a child, then picked up a blanket to cover her.
"Just sleep a bit more. By the time dawn breaks, the rain should stop."
"Okay."
In a state of drowsiness that made it hard for her to think clearly, Xu Nuan nodded almost reflexively. After a moment, she wrapped her arms around Gu Ze's, speaking in a childish tone.
"You should sleep too. Don't go out again."
"Alright, I'll sleep too."
Gu Ze's voice was soft, and soon he had lulled Xu Nuan to sleep. Once she was asleep, he sat up and gazed outside the cave with a complex expression.
Outside, the heavy rain continued to pour down, the sound of raindrops hitting the ground was piercing, like someone screaming in his ear, making it difficult to fall asleep.
