After the shelter's large door closed, a sense of chaos and anxiety quickly spread among the crowd. Helen and her supporters knelt in front of the door, filled with grief. Their cries echoed through the silent hallway, sounding particularly heart-wrenching. Some people emotionally pounded on the sturdy door, as if trying to open a passage back to the world that once was.
The sole surviving member of the exploration team had been urgently taken to the medical room by the staff, while the remaining residents gathered at the door, whispering about the outcome of the exploration. Someone murmured, "We all knew the surface conditions would be bad, but we didn't expect it to be this terrible, and those creatures appearing." Others expressed gratitude for being able to have this kind of life underground.
Just as people were still discussing, a group of workers in protective suits suddenly appeared. They solemnly informed the residents present: "Disinfection is needed, please cooperate." As their words fell, the large sprayer in their hands began to operate, emitting a mist containing a mixture of alcohol and special herbs.
The mist quickly filled the entrance area of the shelter, and a pungent odor permeated the air.
