Time slowly passed, and the coffee on the living room table emitted a light fragrant steam. However, only Chen Fan sat there, while our Agent was currently reflecting on his situation, feeling quite sorry for being mistaken as a suspicious terrorist.
Fortunately, Ms. Katy Raphael returned to her villa after a week away. She stepped out of her car, followed by seven or eight burly bodyguards clad in black.
"What are S.H.I.E.L.D. agents doing at my house? I hope you can provide a reasonable explanation!" Rafael's tone was firm. She had received a sudden call from S.H.I.E.L.D. during a board meeting, informing her that her son possessed abilities that could endanger world security. At that moment, she felt so furious that she nearly smashed her laptop in front of her.
"Good afternoon, Ms. Raphael. I am Agent Phil Coulson. As for an explanation, I believe I can provide you with a satisfactory answer. However, before that, let's step inside to talk," Coulson said, feeling quite helpless after being left outside for over an hour by the Maid Sister. The level of caution was excessive; he had already presented his identification but still wasn't allowed in.
If it weren't for the fear of alarming Chen Fan inside, they could have legally barged in. However, he couldn't gauge the Brat's courage; if something unexpected happened, dark clouds might once again loom over Queens.
"Alright!" Rafael nodded, managing to control her anger somewhat. She knew that if there were no solid evidence, these agents wouldn't have come to her home. As Coulson stepped aside, she walked outside and placed her palm on the external light screen. With a mechanical beep, the villa's front door slowly opened outward.
"Silphy, what are you doing?" Upon the door opening, Ms. Raphael covered her head as she faced a fully armed Maid Sister. She remembered that this outfit was protective gear Silphy had purchased with three months' salary through her connections; it could withstand most firearms on the market.
"Madam... Wuwu... You're back!" Silphy lowered her electric stun gun, revealing a look of grievance beneath her mask. She was terrified upon seeing the black-clad figures outside.
"Alright, alright, it's fine now; these people are not terrorists!" Rafael sighed and reassured her. Her maid was good at everything except having a bit too much fear.
Chen Fan twitched his lips slightly; if it weren't for fearing that Silphy would faint from fright, he would certainly give this Maid Sister a proper lesson.
"My dear son, I'm sorry I've been busy lately and haven't been home to take care of you!" Rafael's gaze shifted to Chen Fan's face and noticed his clear displeasure; it inexplicably tugged at her heartstrings.
"Mom, I can take care of myself; isn't Silphy here at home?" Chen Fan's displeasure stemmed from seeing Coulson. He understood why his mother wasn't home often; without sufficient financial resources, how could he afford to live comfortably?
After exchanging some brief family pleasantries, Coulson began to explain his purpose.
"Ms. Raphael, if possible, I would prefer that only you and your son Mr. Chen Fan are present during our conversation." Coulson glanced at the black-clad bodyguards and Maid Sister in the room; after all, the matters he needed to discuss were best kept between those directly involved and as few others as possible.
Rafael nodded towards the bodyguards, and a few tall, burly men in black suits stepped out of the villa, becoming alert outside. As for Maid Sister, she clearly did not grasp Coulson's intention, wearing an expression that seemed to say "no entry" as she looked at the people in the living room.
Seeing that Maid Sister had no intention of leaving, Coulson subtly twitched his lips and rubbed his forehead. After all, he was a guest, not the host, and had no right to ask someone else's maid to leave the villa.
"Wow!" Rafael sat upright at the guest table and picked up a steaming cup of coffee. "Silphy, your coffee-making skills have improved; it tastes much better than before!"
Silphy nodded, her tense face relaxing slightly. However, when she glanced at Coulson, her expression remained wary, and the electric stun gun in her right hand never wavered.
"I wonder if Ms. Raphael has noticed the Thundercloud anomaly that occurred in Queens at ten this morning. According to our energy scans, that strange power is spreading from your backyard," Coulson said as he stood before the guest table, slowly recounting the information he had gathered. After finishing, he pulled out a photograph from his pocket and placed it on the table.
In the photo was a cute boy with his right hand raised high, clearly holding a golden Thunderbolt in his delicate palm. Against the backdrop of dark clouds swirling with thunder, the boy resembled a young deity—intimidating without anger, gazing down upon countless beings.
"Wow! The person in this photo looks just like my son!" Ms. Raphael exclaimed, covering her mouth in surprise. Her bright blue eyes sparkled with joy; she felt that compared to her own son, the boy in the photo was just a tad cuter—really just a little bit.
"Could this be the young master's brother? They look so alike!" Maid Sister Silphy chimed in with her thoughts and compared the person in the photo with Chen Fan, murmuring, "Even their clothes are identical; it's truly uncanny!"
As a super agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., Coulson had dealt with nearly a hundred extraordinary events, but encountering such rare family resemblances left him scratching his head. God, how could they see two different people when one was right there in front of them?
Chen Fan wore an amused expression; with such an exceptional mother and maid, they must have an incredible bond. If he didn’t know better, he would think Silphy was his mother’s daughter.
Looking at the photo, Chen Fan pondered whether he should give a shout-out to the director or treat the photographer to a meal for capturing such a fantastical background and effects. Just looking at it moved him.
"Ms. Raphael, the person in this photo is your son; he is currently sitting to your right!" Coulson thought it best to remind her; otherwise, who knew how long it would take for her to realize it herself.
"Is this really my son? Impossible! My son can't be as cute as the one in this photo!" Ms. Raphael stammered. Even Maid Sister beside her nodded in agreement; while their young master was indeed adorable, there was still some distance compared to the boy in the picture.
After discussing for a while, Coulson felt quite exhausted and shook his head. Suddenly, he snapped back to reality; Ms. Raphael was frighteningly adept at shifting the topic. He had come to discuss the handling of Chen Fan, yet they were still debating over the photographs.
"Ms. Raphael, please take this seriously. We are discussing Mr. Chen Fan's future. If his abilities cannot be controlled, it could pose immeasurable dangers to the world."
Coulson spoke sternly, primarily concerned about Chen Fan's young age. At only ten years old, his worldview differed from that of an adult, and his understanding of the law was insufficient. If left unchecked, it was only a matter of time before something significant happened. "As the leader of a Fortune 500 company, I believe you should understand the implications."
"Alright, Agent Coulson, let's talk about my son," Ms. Raphael waved her hand dismissively, no longer fixated on the photographs. "Regardless of whether my son possesses superpowers, he is still just ten years old. As a minor protected by United Nations laws, none of you have the right to target him unless he has committed a crime."
Coulson hesitated for a moment before responding candidly. "Ms. Raphael, you are correct; however, your son's abilities are currently unverified in terms of control and their potential effects on his body. I believe a stable and authoritative institution could assist him. Without instilling a proper worldview and understanding of the law in Chen Fan, he is like a child wielding a nuclear missile launcher—extremely dangerous!"
"Once your son acquires special abilities, he can no longer live as an ordinary person. He will face two paths: becoming a superhero or a supervillain. I believe neither you nor we nor the world wishes to see the latter."
Under Coulson's eloquent persuasion, Ms. Raphael hesitated. Regardless of his intentions, his words held truth. Glancing at Chen Fan's innocent face made her feel conflicted; neither path—superhero or supervillain—was one she wanted her son to take, yet it seemed there were no other options.
As a leader of a Fortune 500 company, Katy Raphael found herself in a state of confusion, gripping her coffee cup tightly enough that even her delicate veins were visible.
After a brief silence, the atmosphere was broken by a youthful voice.
To be honest, Chen Fan understood his mother's conflicted expression well; after all, no one would feel comfortable allowing a child with a nuclear missile launcher to run around freely. Moreover, he posed an even greater threat than that; as a Godslayer who could slay disobedient gods and strip them of their powers, if he wished to destroy a city, it would be as simple as waving his hand.
After all, the Godslayer also had another title: the Demon King on Earth who slays disobedient gods!
"Agent Coulson, may I ask you a question?" Chen Fan said calmly, giving off an impression not typical of a ten-year-old but rather that of an adult with mature thoughts.
His youthful voice drew everyone's attention back to him, pulling Ms. Raphael out of her turmoil as well.
"Ask away, my dear sir! I won't hide anything as long as it's within my ability!" Coulson said with a cheerful smile, appearing very amiable.
When dealing with children, one naturally has to adopt a different demeanor. As an agent who understands a bit about everything, he knew how to interact kindly with his target.
“How many superpowered individuals are there in this world, and who are the strongest among them?” Chen Fan scoffed at the term "dear," preparing to put Coulson in his place. However, the most important thing right now was to gather information. If this were just Spider-Man's world, there would be no reason for S.H.I.E.L.D. to emerge.
"You'll gradually learn about the strongest superpowered individuals in due time. As for those with superpowers, mutants are the most numerous, along with vampires hidden in the shadows, or superheroes who have mutated for various reasons, like Captain America or the currently trending Spider-Man!"
Coulson finished speaking and cast a sidelong glance at Chen Fan. Unbeknownst to him, under the influence of some strange force, he had revealed things that were originally not meant to be disclosed. While these matters were not secrets to those in the underworld, they weighed heavily on ordinary people.
Retracting his gaze, he cautioned the two ladies who were already stunned: "Ms. Raphael, you are only allowed to know these things because you are Mr. Chen Fan's family. I hope you won't leak this information."
The Earth is so dangerous! The two ladies exchanged glances and silently sighed, realizing that there were so many threats hidden behind the ordinary world!
Silphy tightened her grip on the stun gun in her hand; it was the only thing that could provide her with a sense of safety.
Chen Fan's heart sank. What Coulson had said made him realize—Damn it! This wasn't just Spider-Man's world; it was the Marvel Universe—a perilous realm where death lurked everywhere and criminals were as numerous as dogs.
It was entirely possible that while sitting at home, a Hulk could crash through the roof or an Iron Man could smash through the wall. Or perhaps while walking down the street, he might suddenly encounter a flying shield—oh wait, that's Captain America...
Just thinking about it felt so dangerous; staying at home was even riskier. No one knew if those so-called grim reaper superheroes might suddenly drop down and crush him. Besides that, there were vampires and mutants watching from the sidelines, aliens sitting in the VIP section applauding, and Asgardians cheering for Vibrant Goods.
