"Mom, the Earth is so dangerous; everywhere is dangerous!"
Chen Fan felt like crying but had no tears. No wonder the package for crossing over was so rich; it seemed just as he had guessed, they were afraid he would die too early and ruin the company's reputation.
"Agent Coulson, does S.H.I.E.L.D. accept child workers? The kind that only eats and doesn't do any work!" Chen Fan said pitifully. Overall, S.H.I.E.L.D. was definitely safer than his own home; at least he wouldn't have to worry about superheroes suddenly crashing down. These grim reapers seemed to bring death wherever they went.
Chen Fan's cheap mother, Rafael, let out a bitter laugh. Knowing all the potential dangers, she also believed her son would be safer in S.H.I.E.L.D. As a selfish mother, she couldn't bear the thought of her son living in a world filled with countless dangers, so she made a decision:
"Mr. Coulson, I believe S.H.I.E.L.D. can take better care of this child than I can. However, I have one request: no matter what happens, I hope my son will remain free. I hope you can remember this."
"Ms. Raphael, while S.H.I.E.L.D. has a special status, we still need to abide by the laws set by the country. I can assure you that Mr. Chen Fan will not face any unfair treatment; he is free!" Coulson replied with a smile. The matter was settled, and he felt relieved, though he sensed that this lovely boy was quite peculiar.
"Agent Coulson, you still haven't answered my question: does S.H.I.E.L.D. recruit child workers?" Chen Fan pressed on, determined to join S.H.I.E.L.D. After all, he was only ten years old; as long as he didn't go too far, everyone would probably just turn a blind eye!
After all, Director Fury of S.H.I.E.L.D. was just like that! Although he played himself!
Coulson didn't think much of it and assumed Chen Fan was just curious since he was only a ten-year-old child. He smiled kindly and said, "Dear sir, if you want to join S.H.I.E.L.D., you'll need to wait until you're an adult to make that decision. For now, what you need is to learn various kinds of knowledge!"
This attempt to placate him made Chen Fan pout, but he didn't pursue the topic further; his goal was simply to find a safe haven, and S.H.I.E.L.D. seemed like a good choice.
"Now let's talk about your abilities. I'm curious how much our dear sir knows about his own powers?" This question was also very important; Coulson's smile faded slightly as he looked at Chen Fan with a more serious expression.
Here came the problem! Chen Fan thought to himself.
If he showcased abilities that were too weak, S.H.I.E.L.D. wouldn't take him seriously and would treat him like an ordinary ability user.
"My abilities are related to thunder and lightning. If I want to, I can create a Thunder Domain under dark clouds; currently, the maximum range can cover all of New York!" Chen Fan smirked. Although this power sounded impressive, once the area expanded, the attack power of the lightning would also change. Covering all of New York would mean that the Thunder Domain's strength could only leave ordinary people feeling numb—similar to static electricity.
However, the economic damage could be massive; almost all electronic devices would be paralyzed—comparable to the impact of a nuclear bomb and perhaps even more terrifying.
"Oh my God!" Coulson gasped in shock, unable to imagine dark clouds covering all of New York—was that the apocalypse?
"My dear sir, please never use such powers; that would be disastrous!" Coulson wiped his sweat nervously. Compared to mutants or vampires, Chen Fan's abilities were far stronger. Right now, he felt that the boy before him was anything but cute; he was practically a hot potato. If the boy got upset for any reason... well, the nation's economy could regress by at least a decade or more.
It seems that before he can control the other party, this seemingly cute gentleman must be treated like a national treasure and cherished.
"Don't worry, I'm not an idiot. There's no way I would do something like that!" Chen Fan rolled his eyes. Currently, within this youthful body resides a mature soul nearing thirty.
His abilities are not particularly strong compared to other superheroes; the only real threat he poses is his destructive power, which can wreak havoc on cities and nations. This has drawn the ire of those grim reapers, and he has faced their wrath. Otherwise, why would he bother clinging to the leg of S.H.I.E.L.D.?
"Alright! It seems our gentleman is quite mature!" Coulson remarked, though he felt no relief in his heart.
"Son, you're amazing! If anyone bullies your mom in the future, just make their whole family lose power!" Ms. Raphael exclaimed excitedly as she hugged her son and planted several kisses on his fair cheeks.
Coulson broke out in a cold sweat, even feeling his shirt dampen. He slapped the table seriously and said, "Ms. Raphael, please do not instill incorrect ideas in your son. What you're suggesting is against national law."
"No one will know, right? A lightning strike would be a disaster; calling the police wouldn't help!" The thought of her son being so powerful made her happy. If anyone dared to provoke her, she could simply point at them and say, "You’ve offended me; your heart will be struck by lightning!"
The more she thought about it, the more excited she became, and she playfully wiped her saliva across Chen Fan's face again.
Chen Fan didn’t dislike this affectionate hug and nodded earnestly. "Mom, if anyone bullies you in the future, I believe they will definitely be struck by lightning. Please trust me on this!"
"Son, I'm so happy!" Rafael said with a cheerful smile.
As for Coulson, he could only mourn for those who might provoke Chen Fan's mother in the future. When someone possesses power equal to that of the state, ordinary laws can no longer restrain them. Moreover, if you bully someone's mother, how could you not expect their son to seek revenge?
Watching the loving bond between mother and son, Coulson decided that when he returned, he would report to his superiors to ensure that Ms. Raphael received more protection. It was essential to guarantee her safety; otherwise, New York or even the entire nation might experience a massive blackout that could set back the economy by decades.
After signing a pile of documents, Rafael reluctantly gazed at Chen Fan. Fortunately, Coulson had assured her that Ms. Raphael would have the right to visit Chen Fan anytime and that there would be no restrictions on phone calls or other communication devices—at most, they would just have to change residences.
"Son, remember to take care of yourself. And don’t forget about Silphy! Make sure she feeds you on time; it's important not to let you eat junk food or uncontrolled snacks!" Rafael nagged about everyday matters with a furrowed brow for half an hour before finally waving goodbye with reluctance.
Chen Fan waved back; it wasn't a life-or-death separation after all. He could always return to see Rafael whenever he wanted, so he didn't feel much sorrow at parting.
"Rest assured, ma'am; I will take good care of the young master!" Silphy said earnestly. To prove her capabilities, she glanced at Coulson and the others while pressing on her stun gun; crackling sounds of electricity echoed as she declared that she was not without her own means of defense.
Originally, Silphy was not supposed to accompany Chen Fan to S.H.I.E.L.D., but under Chen Fan's firm conditions, Coulson agreed with cold sweat running down his back. After all, whether there was one more person or one less didn’t matter as long as Chen Fan agreed to go.
Faced with an increasingly dangerous world, Chen Fan's decision was not without reason.
In this world, the only two people he cared about were Silphy, who would be safe following him to S.H.I.E.L.D., and his cheap mother, who would receive protection from the state because of him, ensuring a level of safety far beyond what they had known before.
"Mr. Coulson, how many superpowered individuals does S.H.I.E.L.D. currently have? As a future colleague, I think it's necessary to know!" Sitting in the car, Chen Fan casually inquired about intelligence, eager to understand how far the plot had progressed.
From what he knew so far, there was only one Spider-Man wandering around the city; he hadn't seen any other heroes on television or in the news.
"There are currently no superpowered individuals, but there are many Super Soldiers... Ugh, damn it, Mr. Chen Fan, I hope you won't use your abilities to pressure me into revealing things I don't want to discuss!" Coulson watched Chen Fan warily. If he hadn't thoroughly investigated Chen Fan's background, he would certainly suspect that Chen Fan had ulterior motives for gathering information.
"Regarding that, Mr. Coulson, you've misunderstood. This ability is not under my control; if it bothers you, I won't ask anymore!" Chen Fan pouted. Godslayer was indeed a demon king among mortals; it was not an exaggeration to say he was akin to a deity. Every word he spoke naturally carried a hint of Curse Power, making it difficult for anyone without strong willpower to remain unaffected.
Coulson didn't fully understand Chen Fan's abilities but felt relieved upon hearing this. After all, he was just a ten-year-old child; seeking information was merely out of curiosity. For everyone in the world, there were many fans of superheroes—even he himself was a die-hard fan of Captain America.
"Mr. Chen Fan, I hope you can control your inquiries in the future; some questions simply cannot be answered!" Coulson sighed. Such a request might be a bit demanding for a ten-year-old child. He chuckled self-deprecatingly and dismissed the thought.
"Okay, I'll be careful!" Chen Fan replied sweetly, leaning into Silphy's embrace. Soft and fragrant, it brought immense satisfaction to someone who had been a thirty-year-old virgin; otherwise, he wouldn't have brought along his adorable Maid Sister.
In this entire world, only Chen Fan and his mother were free from Silphy's vigilance and wholeheartedly accepted her presence. To Maid Sister, aside from the young master and mistress, everyone else was viewed as suspicious individuals with ill intentions.
As she scanned her surroundings, she felt as though there were troublesome people plotting against her!
