I nodded and said, "Oh, I see, Lao Ba. What do you think we might discover in this coffin?"
Jiao Bayi, with a mischievous look on his face, replied, "I don’t know what we’ll find, but I have a feeling it’s definitely connected to the previous Coffin Corpse. If you look closely at the whole situation, everything has its cause and effect; we just don’t know how big the secret behind this is yet."
"Yeah, I guess so, but I can’t shake this uneasy feeling! The power of that Demon Worm Corpse is just too great. How confident are we this time?" Just thinking about the previous Coffin Corpse sent chills down my spine. I never expected to encounter another Demon Worm Corpse now; it seemed like everything was already destined.
Jiao Ba shook his head lightly and said, "The odds aren’t too high—maybe fifty-fifty! As long as we can control that Demon Worm Corpse, we should be safe."
I scoffed and replied, "Easy for you to say. Last time, it was because of the black-clad man's talisman that we managed to handle it. What about this time? If we don’t have anything to subdue it, I doubt any of us will make it out alive."
Suddenly, Jiao Ba looked quite pleased with himself and said, "Don’t worry, Brother Yi. I have my ways. As long as we can get this coffin up, you won’t need to worry about that."
I shot him a glance and said, "Let’s hope it goes as you say. By the way, Lao Ba, haven’t you noticed something quite obvious this time?"
"What’s that?" Jiao Bayi asked with a puzzled expression.
I replied calmly, "Remember when we discovered the Coffin Corpse last time? The wreck was already salvaged, but nobody went to check it out. This time? Without you or me saying a word, they’re planning to bring the coffin up. Isn’t that a pretty obvious problem?"
Jiao Ba squinted his eyes and said, "Hmph, I noticed that long ago. This is all premeditated. Let’s just watch how things unfold! This situation is getting more interesting."
"With our lives on the line, it’s bound to be interesting! Are you planning to tell Mai Lao and the others about what happened in the forbidden area?" I asked.
Jiao Bayi waved his hand dismissively. "Let’s hold off on that for now. When we’re about to set sail, I’ll casually remind them."
I patted his arm and said, "Alright, it's settled then. Let's head back." Just as I was about to return to the cabin, Jiao Ba hurriedly called out to me again.
"Wait a minute, Brother Yi. I'm still worried about something," Jiao Ba's expression darkened once more.
"What now?" His sudden shifts in mood were starting to confuse me.
"The Sting Horse Colt. As long as that thing is alive, it threatens our lives every single day," Jiao Ba said with a heavy tone, indicating the seriousness of the situation.
I nodded and replied, "You're right. That creature is indeed frightening. We should discuss this thoroughly with Mai Lao and the others to see if there are any strategies we can come up with. At the very least, we need to ensure our own safety."
"Yes, first thing tomorrow morning, we’ll go find Mai Lao to discuss it. Let's head back now; it's getting late."
That night, I slept soundly, likely due to my exhaustion. When I woke up, it was almost noon. The other sailors in the Rest Cabin were chatting idly. Normally, they would be playing poker at this time, but today they lacked the spirit for it.
Since we set sail, five people had already died. Who could remain carefree under such circumstances? One misstep could easily lead to following in their footsteps. The sailors who agreed to stay did so out of necessity; they had no other choice.
Shunzi and Jiao Ba were not in the Rest Cabin; they must have gone out for some fresh air. There was breakfast left on the table, presumably for me. I got dressed and hurriedly ate a bite before heading out onto the deck.
Sure enough, Mai Lao, Jiao Ba, and Shunzi were chatting on the deck. The weather was nice today; the sun shone brightly and the sea breeze felt comfortable against my skin. I could even see seabirds flying freely in the sky, which lifted my spirits considerably.
"Hey, what are you all talking about?" I approached them with a cheerful smile.
"Good morning, Brother Yi," Shunzi greeted me with a wave. I nodded and smiled back at him. It was quite rare for these three to gather together for a discussion.
"You’re up! You must have been tired last night," Mai Lao said with a smile as he glanced at me.
"Can you not be tired? I barely made it back, Mai Lao. Thank you so much yesterday; without you, I might not have made it out alive."
I sincerely thanked him. All the way, Mai Lao had been supporting me, practically giving me all his oxygen. This Old Man truly moved me, and I admired him for being able to hold his breath underwater for so long—he was no ordinary person.
"We're all on the same side; there's no need for thanks! As long as you're okay," Mai Lao replied, still calm and steady.
"Brother Yi, you really can sleep! I was about to come wake you up," Jiao Ba said, playfully patting me.
"Well, here I am. What were you talking about?" I asked Jiao Ba intentionally.
Looking at me, Jiao Ba said, "I was discussing the Sting Horse Colt with Mai Lao. We’re currently brainstorming strategies."
I nodded and lit a cigarette, taking a puff before asking, "Have you thought of any solutions?"
Mai Lao's expression turned grim as he said, "Not really. That thing has been moving deep underwater; it's definitely not easy to deal with. Xiao Ba, does the Sting Horse Colt have any weaknesses?"
Jiao Ba chuckled and replied, "Weaknesses? I know that thing doesn't feel pain and won't die easily. Creatures like that are hard to find weaknesses in. Even if there are some, I wouldn't know."
Mai Lao sighed, "Well, that's not good. Right now, we don't even know where it's hiding. If we recklessly go into the water, it could be very dangerous. After what you just told me, I really feel like we were lucky yesterday; at least it didn't seem to target us."
I took another drag from my cigarette and said, "Yesterday at the entrance of the forbidden area, I heard that beast-like breathing again. I felt like the Sting Horse Colt was always around us and never left. But I think it wouldn't dare enter the cabin—or maybe it simply can't."
Mai Lao glanced at me and said, "Yes, that's quite reasonable. Once inside the cabin, the Sting Horse Colt poses no threat to us. But if we leave the cabin, we’ll be in danger all the way. If we don’t deal with it soon, there might be casualties—and it might not just be a few people."
Everyone exchanged glances, then silently lowered their heads to smoke. It was clear that the Spear could not kill it, and deep underwater, human strength was ineffective; no weapons could be used against this massive evil creature. We had no way to deal with it at all.
Just when we were at a loss, Shunzi suddenly said, "Do you think we could use something to kill it?"
Use something? After Shunzi finished speaking, the three of us looked at each other, and Jiao Ba was the first to rebut him, saying, "Use what? What can we use down here in the deep sea? The only weapon we have is the Spear; what else can we use, Shunzi?"
"What I mean is not to use existing weapons but to utilize the surrounding environment," Shunzi replied again.
"Are you kidding? The environment is right in front of us! What else is there besides the pitch-black deep sea? We can't even see a fish," Jiao Ba countered once more.
But I was pondering Shunzi's words. Use something? Suddenly, I thought of a not-so-great idea: "I just remembered that outside the hatch of the Wreck, there’s a huge Human-Faced Flower. We can use that! Even if the Sting Horse Colt is powerful, the toxins sprayed by that Human-Faced Flower should be enough to kill it."
Mai Lao's eyes lit up as he said, "Loyalty and Righteousness is right. As long as we can lure the Sting Horse Colt to the Human-Faced Flower, we can definitely kill it. I think this plan is feasible."
"It might be feasible, but have you considered that such a large Human-Faced Flower would spray toxins that could cover half of the Wreck? While we're killing the Sting Horse Colt, we would also end up dead. No one would escape," Jiao Ba mocked.
I thought for a moment and said, "We can take advantage of the hatch. There won't be enough time to escape, but we can hide inside the hatch. First, we need someone to open it from within while one person stays outside. Then another person can lure the Sting Horse Colt over. Once it's drawn in, the person outside will trigger the Human-Faced Flower and give enough time for the one luring it to escape inside. I calculated that the Human-Faced Flower isn't far from the Hatch; if everything goes smoothly, it should work."
