I quickly called over Jiao Ba, "What is this? It looks like a set of clothes." Jiao Ba examined it in his hands, a puzzled expression on his face.
"That's right, it's clothing, and it's ninja clothing." This black outfit was exactly what the Ninja Black-Clad Person had worn that night; my memory couldn't be mistaken.
"So, this was left by that Short Black-Clad Man?" Jiao Ba said, somewhat surprised.
"Yes, I think it must be... Let me take another look." I remembered that I had scratched his arm that night. I carefully inspected the clothing again, and sure enough, there was a tear at the end of the sleeve. This was enough to prove that this was indeed the outfit worn by the black-clad man.
"Absolutely, this is one hundred percent left by that Ninja Black-Clad Person. Look at this part of the sleeve; this is where I scratched him. There's no mistake." I showed it to Jiao Ba.
Jiao Ba nodded and said, "Since you say so, it must be right."
"This place doesn't have many visitors; hiding the clothes here is perfect. By the way, what about his long knife?" Since we could find the clothes, could we also find the knife?
Jiao Ba and I began searching again, combing through almost every corner of the Storage Room. Unfortunately, we still couldn't find the long knife. However, I discovered another secret.
In this Storage Room, there was actually a Secret Door hidden behind a Cabinet. When Jiao Ba pushed the Cabinet aside, a small Secret Door revealed itself, standing about a meter tall.
After opening the Secret Door, darkness lay beyond. Jiao Ba and I exchanged glances. "How is there still a hidden compartment here?" Jiao Ba whispered.
"It might be a secret passage. I need to go in and take a look; you stay here and keep watch at the door."
Just as I was about to crouch down and enter, Jiao Bayi stopped me. "Let me go instead, Brother Yi. You're not well; wait for me here. I'll be back soon."
I nodded in agreement. "Alright, be careful."
Jiao Ba smiled and pulled out a Flashlight from behind him. Crouching low, he stepped inside. I turned on my Flashlight as well and kept shining it until he disappeared from view. Ever since Jiao Ba went in, I couldn't shake off my worry—what if something happened? Where exactly did this secret passage lead?
Now all I could do was wait patiently. Twenty minutes passed in a flash, but Jiao Ba still hadn't returned. I began to feel anxious; after all, twenty minutes should have been enough time. I couldn't help but worry that something might have gone wrong.
Just as I was about to set off to look for him, I noticed a beam of light coming from the secret passage. After waiting for a moment, Jiao Ba crawled out, looking disheveled and covered in dust.
"You finally made it back! I was just about to go find you," I said, reaching out to help him up.
Jiao Ba straightened himself and stretched a bit. "Oh my goodness, I finally got out! My back is killing me; that passage was way too low. I walked through it and now my back aches like crazy."
"What did you find?" I asked, looking at him curiously.
Wiping the sweat from his forehead, Jiao Ba replied, "After opening that secret door, it leads directly to a corner of the kitchen. And there’s actually another back door in the kitchen that goes straight to the stern of the boat."
So it leads to the kitchen and then to the stern? This way, he could leave the fishing boat without anyone noticing.
I chuckled and said, "Now I understand why we always seem to be one step behind everyone else. It turns out there's this passage on our fishing boat. This route can save us a lot of time and avoid everyone's eyes. He can sneak back onto the fishing boat without raising any suspicions—it's brilliant!"
Together, Jiao Ba and I restored the Cabinet to its original state and rearranged the Storage Room as it was before, making sure nothing looked out of place. Of course, I also tossed the ninja outfit back into its original spot.
"Brother Yi, do you think Jenny knows about this secret passage?" Jiao Ba asked me quietly.
"It's hard to say, but this passage was likely left over from when the boat was built. No one would create a secret passage just for fun; it might have been intended for escape or something else entirely, but it's definitely not just a hidden path," I pondered with a frown.
Jiao Ba nodded in agreement. "Yeah, we should try to discreetly ask around and see if we can find out who has the key to this Storage Room."
I shook my head. "That won't help. You and I don't have keys, yet we can still get in here. This lock is designed to keep honest people out, not those with ill intentions."
Jiao Ba looked troubled as he replied, "True enough; now we've both become those 'ill-intentioned' people."
I patted him on the shoulder and said, "The situation is pressing, and there's nothing we can do about it. However, one thing is certain: that Ninja Black-Clad Person must have left from here and then returned. This person should be very familiar with the structure of the ship; I suspect he has known about this passage for a long time."
"Brother Yi, what should we do now? Should we devise a plan to lure him out?" Jiao Ba said with a sly look in his eyes.
I chuckled and replied, "It's useless. If he doesn't want to come out, no plan will work. We can only wait for an opportunity, but I can't shake the feeling that someone is manipulating us."
"Yeah, now that you mention it, I feel the same way. Isn't this just like the plot in your dream?" Jiao Ba reminded me of the Cheating King of the Football Field.
It was indeed like that. If it was that Cat-Eyed Man in Black who had cast a spell on me, what was his purpose? Did he want to use my hand to eliminate those who obstructed him? For now, that's all I could understand.
"Well, I just don't know what it means. Let's head back for now and see what happens later."
About a month passed, and my injuries had mostly healed. During this time, Jenny had made everyone take a complete break; aside from occasionally fishing, we did nothing else.
We were basically waiting to eat through our supplies. Fortunately, we still had enough food for now; otherwise, we would really be in trouble. I knew she wanted us to relax our minds.
In these days, almost everyone lived in constant fear and anxiety. Even the strongest among us had moments when they couldn't hold on any longer. Now that we had a break, the previously oppressive atmosphere became somewhat lively; at least we could see smiles on everyone's faces again.
After some rest, Mai Lao began planning for another dive. Initially, he intended for me to stay on the ship since my body was still recovering; underwater pressure could easily aggravate my wounds.
But I was worried about them going down without me. There could be even greater dangers in that gap. The day before their dive, Jenny found me on the deck and talked to me at length, echoing Mai Lao's sentiments.
She hoped I wouldn't go down; if my injuries flared up again, it would be problematic. I felt warm inside from Jenny's genuine concern, but I stood firm—no matter what happened, we were a team now, and I couldn't just stand by.
In the end, Jenny agreed with me. She also wanted me to persuade the other sailors to join them in diving; ideally, those three would go down together as well. I smiled and promised her that even if she hadn't asked, I would have tried anyway since Mai Lao had already spoken up.
"Then I'll leave it to you, Loyalty and Righteousness," Jenny said politely with a smile.
"Don't worry, I'll go talk to them in a bit." Jenny nodded and smiled at me before turning to leave the deck.
Not long after she left, Li Xin emerged from the cabin. When I saw what she was wearing today, my eyes nearly popped out, and I almost had a nosebleed.
She had come out in nothing but a sheer pink nightgown, the kind that was almost transparent. You could vaguely see the sensual lingerie underneath, and combined with her long, snow-white legs, it was almost completely exposed, making her look exceptionally alluring. It was so distracting that my eyes hurt. I wanted to stare but felt too embarrassed to look directly at her. I unconsciously swallowed hard and quickly pretended not to see her, shifting my gaze elsewhere.
But my peripheral vision was still catching glimpses of Li Xin as she walked straight toward me. "How are you? Feeling better lately?" she said, leaning against the railing and speaking softly in my ear.
The sea breeze blew from her direction, and I could almost smell her body fragrance—a fresh scent that was quite pleasant.
"Oh, I've been fine for a while now. Thanks for asking," I replied, still looking off into the distance, too shy to meet her gaze.
"Hey, that's rude! I'm talking to you, and you're turning your back on me," Li Xin said as she playfully tapped my head.
I quickly turned around and said, "Come on, with you dressed like that, how can I dare to look at you?"
Li Xin shot me a glare and replied, "What's wrong with how I'm dressed? Why make such a big deal out of it? You're so vulgar. Just take care of yourself tomorrow when we go into the water; don't hold us back." With that, she walked back into the cabin, leaving behind a trail of her fragrance.
Damn it, this woman came to find me just to say that? What a tease! I thought she was trying to seduce me. It seems my mind was wandering into inappropriate territory...
