Mai Lao and the others had been by my side all along. This large group of dolphins, each of us holding onto one, swam vigorously towards the small island until they finally stopped in the waters near the island.
I rolled off the dolphin's back and floated on the Sea Surface, looking at this lovely creature as it nudged me with its snout, as if to tell me that it had saved me.
I reached out to touch its mouth, and the dolphin turned and swam into the deep sea, followed by the other dolphins. They were truly adorable animals. It felt like a dream; it was incredible that dolphins had rescued us.
"Loyalty and Righteousness, we should go now. The waves are getting bigger; we need to leave quickly," Mai Lao shouted beside me, struggling against the relentless waves.
I turned and shouted back, "Okay, let’s go. Let’s head to the island first."
We all made our way towards the small island ahead with all our might. Although the island seemed close, swimming there was another story. It took us nearly an hour to finally crawl onto the shore.
This was with the waves pushing us along; if we had been fighting against them, we would have exhausted ourselves before reaching the shore. What surprised me most was that Jenny hadn’t fallen behind at all; she managed to keep pace with us throughout.
Once we climbed onto the small island, we all collapsed on the beach. I turned to look at Jenny lying beside me and said weakly, "I didn’t expect… you… you could keep up… with us."
"Don’t underestimate me; I’m the swimming champion of our school," Jenny replied, tilting her head at me while gasping for breath on the shore.
"Haha… haha… hahahaha…" For some reason, I suddenly burst into laughter, lying flat on the beach as the waves washed over my body. I found everything so ironic; our fishing boat had been fine one moment and then sank beneath the sea in an instant.
"Hey… you still have the energy to laugh? Think about what we should do next; you’re really… heartless," Jenny said as she playfully hit me, though it lacked any force.
Ignoring her words, I kept my eyes closed and lay on the shore to rest. I was exhausted—so very tired—not just from physical fatigue but also from my wounds flaring up again. After such a severe ordeal, my abdominal pain intensified a bit more; even breathing felt painful.
"Loyalty and Righteousness, get up! We need to find a place to shelter from the rain; we can’t stay here," Mai Lao's voice rang out above me.
I slowly opened my eyes and vaguely saw him standing in front of me. Struggling to support myself, I dragged my flippers and took a few steps forward with Mai Lao. "Where are we?" I exclaimed.
Looking at this unfamiliar small island before me filled me with an overwhelming sense of strangeness and an unknown fear. Heavy Rain poured down madly from the sky; it felt as if the dark heavens were about to collapse. It should have been midday, yet it was as dark as night around us.
The current situation on this small island was only vaguely discernible. Several towering peaks stood on the island, and when lightning streaked across the sky, it resembled a sharp sword cutting through the heavens.
That brilliant arc of light raced down from the clouds, reaching the edge of the mountain peaks, which appeared particularly eerie under the illumination of the lightning.
The fierce winds howled across the entire island, sounding like a wild beast roaring, gnawing and suffocating all living things. The gusts whipped at the cliffs and trees, producing a resounding "wooo" echo.
At times, a sharp wail would rise, as if monsters from the mountains were roaming about, instilling a sense of unease in people's hearts. Not far ahead, dense thickets surrounded the area like a jungle, thick and tangled. Rainwater pelted against the leaves, creating a continuous "pata pata" sound.
In this stormy environment filled with thunder and lightning, the entire island took on a sinister and terrifying atmosphere, reminiscent of hell on earth.
"I don't know; it should be an unknown small island. Notify the others to gather their things; we need to find a place to settle down," Mai Lao said wearily as he looked at the island before him.
I nodded and began to call each person one by one. Everyone was exhausted and reluctantly dragged themselves up.
Li Xin struggled a bit when she got up and nearly fell over. I quickly supported her. "How are you? Are you okay?"
Li Xin shook her head and glanced at me. "I'm fine; thank you."
I smiled and helped her up. It seemed even this tough woman had her moments of vulnerability. For her to say thank you today was remarkable since the sun hadn't shown itself at all.
I called Shunzi over to take care of her; after all, she was a woman. I could barely handle this ordeal myself; I couldn't imagine how she felt.
Jenny over there was also worn out. After setting Li Xin down, I went to pull her up. "Swimming champion, what's wrong? Can't go on?" I wiped the rainwater off my forehead and squatted down to look at her.
The rain poured down on her face as she kept her eyes shut. "I'm tired—so tired. I have no strength left. Loyalty and Righteousness, just let me sleep for a while."
"If I let you sleep now, you'll never get up again."
Without giving her a chance to protest, I supported her back with one hand and held her knee joint with the other. Gritting my teeth, I hoisted her up in my arms. I couldn't tell if it was my lack of strength or if she was too heavy; either way, it was incredibly taxing, and I nearly collapsed under her weight.
"Hey, what are you doing? Put me down!" Jenny said softly. She truly had no strength left; normally, she would have been furious with me by now.
"I don't have time to waste with you, Big Guy. Take her over there." I called for Big Guy and handed Jenny directly to him. He carried her towards Mai Lao.
Now, aside from Jiao Ba, everyone else had gotten up. Changshan, Mantou, Old Wang, and Little Tiger were all helping to gather our things. Every piece of equipment left could be a lifesaver; we absolutely couldn't afford to lose any of it.
I looked up at the dreadful weather and cursed under my breath, "Damn it, what a mess this is."
I walked over to Jiao Ba, who was still lying there motionless. I nudged him with my foot and said, "Lao Ba, get up quickly; we need to go."
Jiao Ba opened his eyes and waved his hand at me, signaling me to crouch down. I squatted beside him and asked, "What's wrong? You don't expect me to carry you, do you?"
He turned his head to look at me and whispered, "Brother Yi, the Yin Qi here is very heavy; something's off."
"What are you talking about? This is just a deserted island; where would all this Yin Qi come from?" I replied helplessly. Even now, he was still joking around.
Suddenly, Jiao Ba sat up straight and exclaimed, "What would I gain by lying to you? This place feels really strange. After being a tomb raider for so many years, I can tell when something's off. Ever since I set foot on this island, I've sensed something unusual."
"Here we go again; is this your professional deformation? How come I can't smell anything?" I supported myself by holding onto his shoulder.
Jiao Ba looked at me seriously and said, "Do you think I'd joke about this? You probably can't smell it, but let me tell you—there's a heavy stench of corpses here. It's really intense; it's quite eerie."
Hearing this made me shiver involuntarily. The rain hitting my body felt colder now, and the howling wind sounded even more frightening.
"What do you mean? Are there dead people on this island?" I asked in a low voice.
Jiao Ba wiped the rain off his face and said, "It's hard to say—it's definitely something sinister. We need to be careful; it's best not to act alone."
I patted his shoulder and said, "Alright then; it shouldn't be that serious."
Even though I said that, I still felt uneasy inside. This cursed place did seem quite chilling. I had no idea if there were any monsters on this island; hopefully it wouldn't be as Jiao Ba described.
My gaze unconsciously drifted towards the highest peak of the mountain. Suddenly, a flash of lightning streaked across the sky as if tearing it apart, illuminating the mountaintop in a ghostly white light.
In the fleeting moment when lightning struck, I seemed to catch a glimpse of a dark figure atop the mountain peak. Yes, it was definitely a person, but in an instant, the figure vanished. I was startled; could it be that I was imagining things? A deafening roar followed, the sound of thunder shaking the entire island.
“Loyalty and Righteousness, hurry up,” Mai Lao's voice called from ahead.
“I’m coming, Lao Ba, let’s go.” I supported Jiao Ba and walked toward Mai Lao.
We trudged into the forest, our weary bodies dragging along. However, after just a few steps, Mai Lao stopped. “Let’s take shelter here for now; the path ahead is too deep and inconvenient. We’ll wait until the storm passes.”
We gathered under a tree and sat down. Although the rain had lessened somewhat, it still couldn’t completely shield us from the storm's assault. The large trees above rustled loudly as the sea wind pierced through the forest and hit us directly. We huddled close together, using our body heat to keep warm since it was quite cold.
Jenny and Li Xin were nestled among us, hugging each other for warmth. It was a sight that tugged at my heartstrings; they were truly suffering.
I took out my Diving Knife and carefully cut away the excess around my fins, leaving only a shoe-shaped piece about the size of my foot. This way, I could use it as a shoe since the fins were no longer useful. I couldn’t very well drag them along while walking; now that I had no shoes left, this was my only option.
Seeing what I did, everyone else wearing fins quickly pulled out their knives and followed suit, cutting off the front part of their fins to leave behind a shoe shape. This made things much lighter and more like ordinary shoes.
Jiao Ba looked pleased and said, “Not bad, Brother Yi, you’re quite clever!”
I didn’t have time for banter with him; giving him a glance, I replied, “Learn from me; it’s good for your knowledge.”
