This is a thirty-minute story composed of four parts: the joy of the tribe, the pain experienced by Mote during his summoning across space, the aimless wandering, and the solitude of the wilderness. Cui Ming watched as Mote consumed all the soup and half of the biscuits in that half hour, feeling alarmed. If he didn't drive this guy away soon, it was possible that the four practitioners would starve to death here.
Beiyue paid no attention to the vanishing food and said, "Frequent use of magic, especially spatial magic, can cause regional disasters. This is why the Force Alliance was cautious towards practitioners of the Magic System in its early years, which ultimately led to the split between the Magic System and the Force Alliance over two hundred years ago, resulting in the creation of Silent City, this magical paradise."
At the beginning of the story, Li Qing found it fascinating, but as Mote's journey through space brought various pains, Li Qing's expression grew serious, and he fell silent, facing the campfire. After Beiyue finished speaking, Li Qing said, "In my youth, I was a researcher of spatial magic. Young as I was, I thought I had grasped the essence of summoning and was eager to summon a dragon from the Arctic Continent to showcase my abilities. I borrowed various rune artifacts but ended up summoning a boy instead—a boy who was torn apart. After an investigation by the alliance, it was discovered that a village a thousand miles away was completely destroyed due to my summoning, with countless casualties. Because of this, I abandoned the Magic System, mutilated my own eyes in atonement, and left Alliance Academy."
This story was brief but heavier than Mote's tale. As everyone sat in silence, Cui Ming said, "I always thought you had transplanted retinas for a girl you deeply loved who had gone blind. After she regained her sight, she didn’t recognize you and happily lived with a rich and handsome man while you cried in a corner, unloved and uncared for, just trying to scrape by at Zhenhai Temple..."
Li Qing pondered for a moment and gave Cui Ming a thumbs-up. "Junior brother, I must admit your version is quite impressive; it suits me well."
Ding Ze asked softly, "Mote, are you full?"
"No," Mote replied while patting his rocky belly.
Beiyue was straightforward and took out all the food. Mote had no idea what politeness meant; he ate while sharing his story and listening to everyone else's tales. Beiyue tentatively asked, "Mote, are you interested in joining the Force Alliance?" They needed more members; stones could be gathered.
Mote shook his head. "No."
Li Qing said, "Mote, you don't need to go through any assessments. If you're willing, I can help notify the Force Alliance. You are a victim; we must treat you as one of us. Within the alliance, there is a special group of practitioners like you—those who do not belong to this planet. Some are beings summoned to Eternal Sphere from different realms due to time-space anomalies; others are intelligent creatures that have mutated for various reasons."
Mote replied, "I still think it's good here."
Beiyue thought for a moment and said, "How about this? We will keep your secret, but we must inform the administrator. She is a woman named Evelyn, and she will contact you. Don't worry, as long as you obey the law, even if you are truly just a rock, she will welcome you."
Cui Ming chuckled, "Mo Ge has become a police informant, watching those smugglers every day." Who knows, Evelyn might even teach Mote how to use a camera to capture images of the smuggling horse teams...
"I won't listen to you," Mote maintained a wary attitude towards Cui Ming.
Beiyue was curious as well. "Mote, why do you think Cui Ming is a bad person?"
Mote replied, "There is another intelligent race on our planet called the Lizardmen. They do not produce anything and prefer to steal the labor of others. They can disguise themselves as our people to steal from our community. What you call cultivators are referred to as guards on our planet. Trained guards can detect everyone's aura, and Cui Ming's aura is very similar to that of the Lizardmen, so he must be a very cunning person. The best way to deal with a cunning person is to avoid talking to him and drive him out of your home."
Cui Ming was at a loss for words, while Li Qing laughed and said, "I remember reading a book written thousands of years ago about a fantastical story. It mentioned a country where everyone had clouds under their feet; the more bad deeds one did, the darker their clouds became, while those who did good had whiter clouds. A great person would have multicolored auspicious clouds under their feet, while a great villain would have dark clouds rolling beneath them. Mote, I know Cui Ming is somewhat cunning, but I don't think he is a bad person. You seem to believe that people are either black or white. In reality, some people considered good may have evil hearts but lack the qualifications or ability to do bad things. Conversely, some people deemed bad may have kind hearts but use certain means when they act."
Li Qing continued, "The Lizardmen you mentioned are like cuckoos; they don't build nests. To continue their lineage, they lay their eggs in other birds' nests. Cuckoos hatch earlier than many birds and instinctively push other eggs out of the nest to avoid competition for food. If we were to apply human nature to this scenario, then cuckoos would be considered utterly wicked."
Cui Ming responded, "Brother, I don't agree with that point. Mote is after all from the Stone Clan; from their perspective, the Lizardmen stealing from them are indeed bad people. Conversely, the guards of the Stone Clan would certainly be seen as bad by the Lizardmen. From a broader perspective, there is no right or wrong; they must uphold their own positions."
Mote was somewhat satisfied with Cui Ming's explanation: "Mote believes there is still an essential difference between you and the Lizardmen."
Cui Ming said, "But Mote, even as a stone person, one must reason things out. You said yourself that you discriminate against me, right? I occupied your waterhole because I didn't know it was yours. I urinated in your waterhole because you nearly beat me to death; isn't that so?"
"It seems I was in the wrong," Mote nodded in acknowledgment.
Cui Ming flashed a smile, and Li Qing hurriedly said, "Junior brother, don't say anything! It's hard-earned for you to step on your senior brother; give yourself some points in his eyes and don't ruin it."
Beiyue focused more on the gains and losses from the recent battle. The winner of this awkward fight was undoubtedly the Beiyue Team, as Cui Ming had forced Mote to concede. However, if it had been a life-and-death struggle, the outcome would have been uncertain. Mote, being an intelligent being, clearly stated, "I was observing you all when you arrived. Ding Ze should have been the biggest threat, so once you chose your search route, I ambushed Ding Ze. My original target was you, Li Qing, but your evasion and advance speed were too fast, which ultimately led to you and Beiyue surrounding me."
Cui Ming realized, "If it had been a fight to the death, Ding Ze would already be dead."
Mote nodded in agreement. "You two did not fulfill your protective responsibilities at all. Meanwhile, Ding Ze was extremely careless. He has teleportation abilities but wasted them on rushing instead of using them for self-preservation, which was a significant mistake. In the end, I ambushed Ding Ze; that kick from Li Qing was brilliant. I thought he was going to kick me but ended up sending Ding Ze flying instead."
Everyone nodded in acknowledgment; there had indeed been major coordination errors, and everyone had issues to address.
