Wei Qian was not fond of Bao Ming and had no intention of getting close to her. However, He Jin spotted her and quickly pulled her over, trying to calm the furious Wei Qian while sharing the news he had received.
Shi Tiankai arrived but did not begin the investigation immediately. It wasn't until Jiang Chuchu's parents showed up that the questioning started. Wu Rong and Ye Ming had voluntarily handed the matter over to the police, which meant there was no need for the principal or the Inspection Team to get involved.
Shi Tiankai began the interrogation directly. Jiang Chuchu spoke first, but her account was essentially the same as what had been discussed on the forum. There were only a few key points: Rao Jie’s sudden academic improvement was hard to believe, and there were allegations of an inappropriate relationship between Rao Jie and school teacher Wu Rong.
Based on this, Jiang Chuchu reasonably suspected that Rao Jie had obtained the math exam in advance through her improper relationship with Wu Rong, allowing her to score full marks. Because of this perfect score, Rao Jie had pushed Jiang Chuchu out of contention for a Graduate School Recommendation.
Upon hearing this, Jiang Chuchu's parents felt a surge of indignation for their daughter. Previously, they had complained about her lack of ambition and how she embarrassed them; now they realized she had been wronged! They felt emboldened and declared that if the school did not provide an explanation for Jiang Chuchu, they would take their grievances to the media.
At that moment, they looked at Rao Jie with disdain. If it weren't for the crowd, they would have confronted her directly. They had always thought of Rao Jie as a well-behaved child and a good friend to their daughter; compared to the other two, they preferred their daughter to be lifelong friends with someone as polite and kind as Rao Jie.
However, they did not expect that knowing someone’s face does not mean knowing their heart; the ugliness of human nature often reveals itself in the face of self-interest.
Shi Tiankai then questioned the head of the Department of Economics and obtained both students' transcripts. Indeed, as Jiang Chuchu had said, there were suspicious discrepancies. Moreover, Jiang Chuchu was positioned right below Rao Jie in terms of grades; if it weren't for Rao Jie's sudden rise in math scores, Jiang Chuchu would have comfortably secured a spot for a Graduate School Recommendation.
At this point, there was certainly suspicion but no concrete evidence. Shi Tiankai asked the principal to bring in the professor from the Mathematics Department who had created the exam. The old professor confirmed that Wu Rong did not set the paper; after preparing it, he kept it secure so that no one could see or access it. He emphatically assured everyone of this, expressing his frustration at being implicated in any bribery claims against him.
The old professor despised Wu Rong but could affirm one thing: he held himself to high standards and rarely interacted with other professors in the Mathematics Department aside from Ye Ming, making any notion of bribery implausible. Even if Wu Rong attempted to bribe him, given his usual demeanor towards others, the old professor would have rebuffed him outright—there was no way he would grant him any favors.
Faced with the old professor's statements, Jiang Chuchu remained skeptical. The Inspection Team had encountered various shady dealings before and were hesitant to fully trust his words. Furthermore, without evidence to back up his claims—since even if there were any such dealings, they would be private matters—and considering there were no surveillance cameras where the exam papers were stored.
Thus, Shi Tiankai moved on to the next step: he asked Rao Jie to provide her own explanation. Rao Jie had already discussed this with Wu Rong while in the car earlier.
She admitted that Wu Rong was her tutor, and the photos of them hugging and driving together were merely to celebrate her successful exam. There was nothing inappropriate about their relationship.
Thanks to the guidance of the recently awarded Professor Wu, her grades had skyrocketed. Although such progress seemed hard to believe, Wu Rong's achievements spoke for themselves; perhaps he truly was extraordinary!
