After dinner, Tong Ming sent a text from a different number.
"If you don't give me money, I'll keep bothering you!"
"And when do you plan to pay back the money you owe me?"
I laughed.
What nerve Tong Ming had to ask me for repayment! He and his mother came to my house, eating my food, staying in my place, using everything that belonged to me.
To put it bluntly, he was just a freeloader!
I opened my email and clicked on the expense list left by Tong Ming.
"Accommodation fee: two thousand."
"Food expenses: fifteen hundred."
"Water fee: two hundred."
"What?"
I rubbed my eyes to make sure I wasn't seeing things.
"Water fee of two hundred?"
Did Tong Ming's mother really use two hundred worth of water just for bathing?
When she came over, I had shown her around the house and told her she could use anything she wanted.
There was only one thing she couldn't touch: the bathroom upstairs.
That bathroom was filled with my cosmetics and skincare products.
She had agreed at the time.
And yet?
While I was taking a shower, she turned off the water on me. I almost couldn't finish my bath.
Now, she actually had the audacity to charge me for water! How shameless!
Outside the car window, the night was thickening.
Lin Mingyuan glanced at me. "Feeling down?"
I forced a smile. "A little."
"Need any help?"
"No, it's fine."
Lin Mingyuan nodded. "Alright then, just let me know if you need anything."
"Okay."
Lin Mingyuan drove calmly, his tone relaxed. "Don't feel pressured. In my heart, you'll always be that little kid who needs someone to take care of you."
My heart raced. What did he mean by that? Could it be... what I was thinking?
I stole a glance at him. He was looking straight ahead, his expression serene.
"Stop guessing; that's exactly what I mean."
I caught my breath. How did he know what I was thinking? Could he read minds?
Lin Mingyuan chuckled lightly. "When you were little, you were the most mischievous. You always followed me around, begging to play Hide and Seek."
"And every time you hid well, you'd get scared I'd forget about you, knocking on the walls and asking when I would come find you."
I felt my face flush. It seemed like that really happened.
Lin Mingyuan smiled slightly. "Back then, I thought, this little girl is so adorable; I wish I could protect her for a lifetime."
I hurriedly looked away from his gaze. "You... you're not joking, are you?"
"Do I look like I'm joking?"
"But..."
"But what?"
"I thought someone like you, a prince, would prefer strong women, not someone like me who's just drifting through life."
Lin Mingyuan laughed softly. "Who told you I liked strong women?"
As we spoke, the car pulled up to the apartment building.
Lin Mingyuan parked the car. "Are you free tomorrow? I'd like to take you out for dinner."
I looked into his hopeful eyes and found myself nodding unexpectedly. "Sure."
Lin Mingyuan smiled. "It's settled then; see you tomorrow."
"See you tomorrow."
When I got home, I took a shower and lay down on my bed. My heart was still racing. I patted my cheeks and said to myself, "Liu Qianqian, calm down."
"It's just a man, right? Why am I so worked up?"
But... Lin Mingyuan had no idea about my situation. The fact that he was still willing to be with me showed that he was a good person. Plus, he was handsome, fit, and wealthy... Where could I find someone as good as him?
I thought for a moment and picked up my phone to do some calculations. Over the past two years with Tong Ming, I had bought him clothes, phones, and various gifts. Every time he went on a business trip, I would give him some pocket money. On his birthday, I treated his whole family to dinner. When his brother had a birthday, I prepared a red envelope too. His mother set rules for me to pay up. When his brother was getting married, I was expected to provide a house.
Adding it all up...
I finished my calculations, organized them into a table along with payment screenshots, and sent them to Tong Ming.
"Oh, by the way, your brother is getting married, and I didn’t give him the house."
"Also, please pay me back the money I lent you as soon as possible."
"Otherwise, I'll have no choice but to report it."
Send.
I quietly waited for Tong Ming's reply.
