The sound was piercing, reminiscent of metal scraping against the ground. It wasn't a cat making this noise; it was a person. This person's voice must have been damaged, otherwise, how could such a sharp sound emerge? In the darkness, their laughter mingled with the cries of feral cats, creating an eerie echo.
Fear gripped my heart. There was not a single ray of sunlight penetrating this place, and all I could see were pairs of green eyes staring back at me. I felt the weight of cats walking over me, and I could sense countless scratches on my arms and face from their claws. In the darkness, I felt as if someone was watching me.
Humans are indeed creatures that fear the dark. No matter how much I told myself there was nothing to fear in the shadows, I couldn't stop my heart from racing in this environment. My hands trembled uncontrollably as I fought to suppress my fear and continued to feel around.
Suddenly, I touched a hand—smooth as if washed with milk. Instinctively, I withdrew my hand, realizing that this person must be the Murderer. Earlier, in the dim light, I had seen a girl sitting cross-legged not far from me, her head separated from her body.
As a corpse, she could not move. Therefore, this warm hand belonged to the Murderer.
A wave of terror and responsibility washed over me. I couldn't fathom how the Murderer remained calm in such pitch darkness, nor did I know where they had emerged from. Though fear coursed through me, thinking of the brutal murder and dismemberment of a girl barely in her teens ignited a surge of anger within me.
I lunged forward, trying to grab hold of the Murderer who seemed to be right in front of me, but grasped nothing but air. At that moment, most of the stray cats scattered away, leaving an unsettling silence around me. I quickly curled up tighter in this narrow passageway, blocking any escape route for the Murderer.
But after waiting for a moment, there was no sign of movement.
Suddenly, a melodious singing echoed from afar and grew fainter—a sharp sound still lingered, yet within it was an indescribable emotion. I knew there had to be other passages nearby. I wanted to chase after it but could see nothing at all.
Frantically searching for my fallen flashlight, I had no idea where it had rolled off to; perhaps a cat had carried it away. Just then, my fingers brushed against something round with a nose and eyes—I suddenly realized it was the girl's Head that had fallen.
And it seemed her eyes were wide open.
I jumped back in fright and then felt a stick-like object beside me. Quickly twisting it with my hand, light finally emerged. Shining the flashlight revealed that the Head lay right next to me—it was indeed a girl's Head—and behind it was a knife embedded at an angle.
I suddenly realized that when the Murderer was near me, they might have been feeling for the knife. But then again, if they were unaffected by this darkness, drawing out the knife to stab me would have been an easy task. Yet they chose not to do so; instead, they opted to leave.
I truly did not know whether they had intentionally let me go or were afraid of being caught by me instead.
Shining my flashlight around, I discovered that this was a relatively larger space compared to the corridor, enough for an adult to crouch. I quickly scanned the area, hoping to find an exit that the Murderer had used, but it seemed there were no other passages apart from where I was.
I carefully examined the space; the girl's head was right beside me, but her body leaned against the wall on the other side. She was not wearing any clothes, and on her smooth skin were carved crooked English letters that I couldn't decipher.
Next to the girl lay two more bodies. From their appearance, many parts of these corpses revealed stark white bones, and their skulls were almost entirely bare, with only scraps of scalp still clinging to the bone.
Similarly, these two bodies were also unclothed. Judging by their size and build, they were both adults. The lower halves of the bodies were indistinct, making it hard to tell their genders, but from the upper bodies, I could discern that one was male and the other female.
Suddenly, it dawned on me: a family of three was here.
These two adult corpses belonged to the girl's parents, while the other corpse was that of The Girl in the Story. Perhaps she never imagined that within this Black Hole lurked not a kind-hearted person who adopted stray cats, but a Perverted Killer who had schemed to lure her in.
I glanced at the two corpses and then at the headless body of the girl. I noticed slight movements in her body compared to before. After thinking for a moment, I approached like a cat and crouched down to move her body aside. Sure enough, behind her appeared another narrow passage.
Without hesitation, I squeezed through.
After walking for about ten minutes, I saw light ahead, causing my flashlight's beam to dim. As I stepped out into the open, a sense of relief washed over me that nearly brought tears to my eyes. I finally understood why so many people suffer from claustrophobia; the feeling of confinement is indeed overwhelming.
I found myself in what resembled a warehouse filled with boxes. Looking around, I noticed that many boxes were labeled Adult Products. It reminded me of the missing Adult Store Owner mentioned in the Murderer's story; this must be the Boss Lady's warehouse.
Ahead was a door leading outside. As I stepped out, I realized I was now surrounded by an array of Adult Products; I had arrived at the front store. At that moment, I discovered that the door to the Adult Store had been locked from the outside. I pulled on it but found it impossible to open. Pressing my face against the window, I looked outside; it was a street that couldn't be considered particularly bustling, with hardly anyone walking by.
I pressed my face against the glass, hoping to catch a glimpse of whoever might walk past. Suddenly, a figure dressed in Black Clothes flashed by around the corner and disappeared down the street. I could tell with certainty that this person, approximately 1.68 meters tall and clad in Black Clothes, was none other than the Murderer!
I kicked the glass door hard twice, but it turned out to be quite sturdy.
Grabbing a chair nearby, I swung it at the door, only to find that it wouldn't break. I couldn't believe that in such a remote place, the glass was bulletproof.
A person walked past me, glancing at me as I continued to pound on the window from inside. He was on the phone, saying, "Honey, guess what I just saw? There's someone locked inside an Adult Store. Looks like a guy trying to seduce someone's wife. No, I'm not getting a massage; you know what I mean, right? Hey, honey..."
I slapped my forehead and quickly pulled out my phone from my pocket, dialing Gu Chen immediately.
"Hey, Gu Chen, get the police and come to this street right away. Hurry! The murderer is a person in black clothes, about 1.7 meters tall. It could be a man or a woman. Find them; it's pretty deserted here!"
"Are you okay?" Gu Chen asked.
"I'm fine; just do as I say," I urged.
After hanging up, I glanced at the guy outside who was still explaining something and turned back into the warehouse. Retracing my steps, the entire process was eerily silent, and I naturally encountered the corpse again. After a moment's thought, I decided to leave straight away.
When I came out, a police officer was still guarding the entrance.
Seeing me, he looked quite surprised.
"What happened?" I asked.
The officer replied, "Shouldn't I be asking you? Your face is covered in blood, your clothes are torn to shreds, and your hair is all messed up. If someone didn't know better, they'd think you were digging coal. Captain Wu, what on earth happened in there?"
At that moment, I wasn't in the mood to explain anything to this officer. Instead, I asked, "Did anything happen while I was inside?"
The police officer thought for a moment and then said, "About twenty minutes after you went in, a whole bunch of cats suddenly rushed out from the hole. The number was truly astonishing; I must have seen dozens of them! Once they came out, they vanished into the street in the blink of an eye."
"Gu Chen was worried you might have some trouble, so he called you several times but couldn't get through," the officer continued. "However, just over ten minutes ago, he received a call and took off with a group of people, leaving me here to keep watch. I have no idea what happened."
I nodded, patting him on the shoulder. "Get a few slim guys to bring out the Three Corpses from inside. Just a heads up, make sure to take some brave ones; otherwise, they might end up scaring themselves silly."
"Are there really corpses inside?" The officer's eyes widened in surprise.
When I went upstairs, only Guan Zengbin remained; it turned out the others had already followed Gu Chen to chase after the Murderer.
"Hey." Guan Zengbin was still checking the room for any traces left by the Murderer when I gently spoke up.
Guan Zengbin turned to look at me and said, "What happened to you? Your face is covered in blood."
Then she took some gauze from her bag and started wiping the blood off my face. "Did a cat scratch you? You really should take a look at yourself; your face is all marked up. If someone didn't know better, they'd think that wife of yours did this."
I turned my face slightly as a streak of fiery clouds appeared by the window. It was already evening, and there was a bit of warmth in the air. The sunlight cast a faint yellow halo over Guan Zengbin's face and head. For some reason, my previously tense heart calmed down, and I no longer felt so frantic.
"Yeah," I replied softly.
