“What's going on with Liang Zhengkun?” I asked hurriedly.
From what the School Leader implied, it seemed that something had happened to Liang Zhengkun as well. But if Liang Zhengkun was dead, how had he died? He was only nine years old this year. If both of these boys were dead, why would the Murderer want to kill them?

I nodded again.
After we got the address, Gu Chen drove us to that location.
In the car, I asked, “Has Mary not arrived yet? Do you know where she is?”
Gu Chen nodded and said, “I spoke with Mary last night. She needs to handle some matters in Yuzhou City before she can come back to Dongxing City. Last night she was still dealing with issues related to Captain Shao; you know how complicated things are right now.”
I frowned and slowly said, “Yeah, it's probably still related to my case. But it seems there’s an insider in the police department. It looks like Liu is up to something again. At this point, no one would believe me; perhaps that's why Liu Yi has been lurking around and waiting for the right moment to strike.”
Gu Chen sighed and then said, “But now you've become a Fugitive, and I've quit my job. Even when Mary arrives, she can't use her identity as a police officer. It seems our Special Operations Group has turned into a civilian organization.”
I smiled and asked, "When do you think Mary will arrive?"
Gu Chen nodded and replied, "Probably tomorrow noon or afternoon. I estimate everything will be settled today, and she’ll be flying over tomorrow. However, I haven't mentioned that you're here. But since we've been together for so long, I don't think Mary will cause any trouble. You'll have to explain things yourself when the time comes."
I nodded seriously and said, "Since I joined the Special Operations Group, I've been teasing and joking with Mary. It's been several months since I last saw her, and I actually miss her a bit. I believe she’ll understand me; after all, Mary isn’t a rigid person."
As we chatted, we arrived at Liang Zhengyu and Liang Zhengkun's home. It wasn't far from where we were. Outside, there was already a car waiting; it looked like it belonged to the School Leader.
It was already one in the early morning, and the night was deep. The households around us had turned off their lights, but Liang Zhengkun's house was still lit up. Gu Chen and I exchanged glances and knocked on the door. Soon, a middle-aged woman opened it; she was likely Liang Zhengkun's homeroom teacher. At a glance, I saw the School Leader sitting on a chair, while a young boy stood awkwardly beside him.
This boy must be Liang Zhengkun.
The School Leader saw us and quickly said, "You’re finally here! You scared me! What would we do if something happened here?"
I nodded and asked, "Have you notified their parents?"
Liang Zhengkun's homeroom teacher replied, "We’ve already informed them, but they are in Dongxing City and it will take them several hours to get here. However, both are on their way."
I gently nodded and walked over to Liang Zhengkun's side. He looked both shy and scared; for a nine-year-old boy facing such a situation, it was normal to feel frightened—after all, not only his homeroom teacher was here but also the School Leader and even the police.
I looked at Liang Zhengkun and said, "You don’t need to be afraid, kid. I'm just going to ask you some simple questions. If you know the answer, just tell me; if you don’t know, that’s okay too."
Liang Zhengkun glanced at me and shyly nodded.
Gu Chen and I sat down, and I encouraged Liang Zhengkun to sit as well. I began asking him, "Liang Zhengkun, do you usually go home alone after school or do you go home with your brother?"
Liang Zhengkun replied, "I go home by myself."
"What about your brother?" I asked. "Doesn’t he go home with you?"
Liang Zhengkun shook his head and said, "My brother doesn’t like to play with me; he always goes out with his friends."
I asked, "So do you usually go home alone? Doesn’t your brother come home?"
Liang Zhengkun glanced at his homeroom teacher and replied, "I always go home by myself. Every time school ends, I obediently go home, but my brother goes out to play with his friends. My mom wants me to come straight home after school and not mess around, but my brother often stays out very late."
I nodded and asked, "Don’t you tell your parents about your brother’s activities?"
Liang Zhengkun hurriedly waved his hand and said, "I can’t. I’m afraid my brother will hit me."
"Is your brother very fierce?" I inquired.
Liang Zhengkun nodded seriously and said, "My brother is quite something. He loves to fight at school and used to be the leader of Fifth Grade Class One. He’s like a king. Sometimes I see him fighting with others, but everyone in my class knows I’m his little brother, so no one bullies me."
At this point, Liang Zhengkun secretly glanced at his homeroom teacher, seemingly worried about being scolded.
It was clear that Liang Zhengkun's personality was very different from his brother's. From Liang Zhengkun's description, it seemed that his brother was domineering and wild, while he himself was more timid and introverted.
"Are you not worried that your brother hasn’t come back yet?" I asked.
Tears were welling up in his eyes as he spoke, "I don’t know what my brother is doing. I feel a bit scared being home alone. Usually, he comes back by eight or nine at the latest, but now it’s already one o'clock and he still hasn’t returned. I’m too scared to sleep alone, so I’m just watching TV."
"Do you know where your brother went today?" I asked.
The boy shook his head and said, "I saw him after school today; he was with his classmates, but I don’t know where he went."
"What does he usually do?" I asked.
After thinking for a moment, Liang Zhengkun said, "Let me show you something; follow me."
We nodded, curious about what Liang Zhengkun wanted to show us, but he walked out the door instead, which surprised me. I wondered where he was going. After stepping out of the room, he walked a dozen meters down the alley, arriving at a makeshift Garbage Dump.
Liang Zhengkun began to move aside some bricks next to the Garbage Dump. We saw a hole appear beside it, previously covered by those bricks, resembling a secret base that a child might play in.
The stench near the dump was overwhelming, and numerous flies buzzed around. I could feel swarms of mosquitoes nearby, making it seem like staying here any longer would result in being devoured by them. The environment was harsh, and I couldn't understand why Liang Zhengkun had brought us here.
"My brother usually enjoys doing this," Liang Zhengkun said as he urged us to look inside.
However, it was already late at night, and we couldn't see anything in the darkness. Gu Chen pulled out a flashlight from his pocket. For those of us who had been accustomed to being police officers for years, even without handcuffs or firearms now, carrying gloves and flashlights had long become a good habit.
Gu Chen and I turned on the flashlight and shone it into the hole. After a moment, we both frowned because what we saw inside was hard to comprehend. If this was something an eleven-year-old child had done, it was indeed quite cruel.
Noticing that Gu Chen and I were silent, the School Leader came over to see what was inside.
After looking for a while, the School Leader seemed at a loss for words. Finally, he spoke up: "Liang Zhengkun, let me ask you, did your brother do all of this?"
Liang Zhengkun nodded seriously and replied, "Yes, my brother usually likes to do these things. Sometimes he goes to that forest far from school. The teachers don’t let us play there, especially not in that water; I've heard many people drowned there."
The forest Liang Zhengkun referred to must be where Liang Zhengyu died. It seemed that Hu Ningning and Li Jun were also captured there. It appeared that children nowadays were quite fond of going to that place.
But if everything before us was indeed done by Liang Zhengyu, then this boy's inner world was truly extraordinary...
