The results were quickly announced on the video, with Rao Jie scoring over forty points higher than Jiang Chuchu. The entire process of answering questions was witnessed by all, leaving no room for anyone to argue otherwise.
Jiang Chuchu's face had turned as pale as a terminally ill patient, while her parents were blushing with embarrassment, having brought shame upon themselves in front of the entire school. The principal briefly explained the relationship between Wu Rong and Rao Jie. Although some people still had their opinions about the closeness between Rao Jie and Wu Rong, everyone understood their relationship.
Students couldn't help but marvel at Professor Wu's genius; just a little tutoring had led to such a remarkable improvement in scores. They wondered if they could hire him as a tutor! The principal refrained from mentioning that Wu Rong's status allowed him to date students, as that would have negative implications. However, the students' ability to gather information was impressive. Soon enough, everyone knew that Wu Rong was different from other professors; even if he were dating, it wouldn't violate school rules.
So why wait? A man as charming as him would be hard to find outside of school; they should seize the opportunity to pursue him! For some time afterward, Wu Rong was indeed heavily pursued, but that was a story for later.
Now, the students understood what had happened, and the large screen was turned off. The subsequent proceedings were not meant for students to see. Once the video ended, Jiang Chuchu's father stepped forward and slapped her across the face. "How could you deceive us? Did you do this on purpose because you couldn't compete with others? How could you act like this? Is this how we raised you? We've wasted our efforts on you, bringing disgrace upon our family with such shameful behavior."
Jiang Chuchu burst into tears; she had nothing left to say because she could no longer argue her case—she could only cry. Her father attempted to strike her again but was stopped by her mother.
After some commotion, as parents, they felt compelled to apologize for their daughter’s actions. However, the principal interjected, "You don’t need to apologize to me; the ones truly harmed and unjustly attacked are Rao Jie and Professor Wu."
The Jiang parents hurriedly went to apologize to Rao Jie and Wu Rong, especially since the nearby police were keeping a close watch on them. Even if their child had misbehaved, they certainly didn’t want her to be taken away by the police over such a trivial matter!
Mrs. Jiang grasped Rao Jie’s hand and said, "Rao Jie, Chuchu is just upset and confused. Please don’t hold it against her. Let’s forget about calling the police; it’s not a big deal. I promise I will thank you properly later, alright? After all, you’re roommates and good friends."
Rao Jie’s expression darkened; she felt bitter inside and didn’t dare accept such a friendship anymore. However, Jiang Chuchu's cries and Mrs. Jiang's pleas put Rao Jie in a difficult position. She wanted to retaliate decisively but felt soft-hearted when someone begged her face-to-face; she didn’t know how to refuse.
But this wasn’t something Rao Jie needed to worry about—Wu Rong stepped forward decisively and said, "I’m the one who called the police; your pleas are useless. I intend to reclaim my reputation."
Mrs. Jiang was taken aback and quickly awkwardly turned to plead with Wu Rong, hoping Rao Jie would speak up for them, but Rao Jie remained silent. Mr. Jiang also approached Wu Rong in hopes of resolving things privately, but Wu Rong remained cold and firmly shook his head without any courtesy.
"Adults should be held accountable for their words and actions; they should not receive special treatment simply because they are students or women!"
