It is said that this was a dismemberment case that nearly scared the forensic experts to death, and it is one of the most brutal and terrifying cases in Henan.
Imagine fishing by a river and discovering a head crawling with maggots. How would you feel?
The eyelids of the female victim were flipped back, and with the giant observation, it was hard to distinguish her features; her eyes, nose, and mouth were barely recognizable. The condition of the body was extremely grotesque, and her hair had become so waterlogged over time that it fell out with the slightest movement.
Even more horrifying was that her torso had been stuffed into a suitcase, which was nearly bursting at the seams when discovered.
Location of the incident: Zhengzhou, Henan.
On the morning of August 8, 2012, the reporter, an Air Force fisherman, was fishing by the canal as usual when he noticed a round plastic bag floating on the surface of the water. This struck him as odd, so he decided to retrieve it.
To his surprise, not only did the convenience bag emit a foul odor, but it also attracted numerous flies.
Curious, he opened the bag and was horrified to find a highly decomposed human head inside. Terrified, he quickly dialed emergency services.
When the police arrived at the scene, they immediately began their investigation. As they carefully unwrapped the layers of the plastic bag, they found a white floral dress wrapped around a severely decayed head.
Identification confirmed that the victim was female, but due to extensive decomposition, her features were unrecognizable.
Preliminary assessments indicated that this was a heinous case of murder, dismemberment, and disposal. But where was the victim's torso?
The police conducted a thorough search of the river but found nothing.
By asking nearby villagers and river cleaning workers, they found no suspicious individuals had come through the area. It seemed that the only clue available was the severed head.
Since the deceased could not provide any information, the forensic expert examined the skull and initially concluded that the victim was a woman, aged between 20 and 30, who was very fashionable and attractive. There was a surgical scar on her chin, and one of her teeth was missing.
The blood found on her gums indicated that the woman had died from blunt force trauma approximately five days prior, and her head had been severed and thrown into the river about 24 hours after her death.
So who exactly was this victim? And where was the crime scene?
In order to solve the case quickly, the police conducted an investigation into all women aged 20 to 30 who were reported missing in the city. However, they found it strange that there were no missing persons matching this description in the area, nor had any family members reported a disappearance recently.
Could this woman be a migrant worker? With no leads emerging, the police began investigating the yellow bag that contained the head and the floral dress.
One group of officers went to trace the source of the bag, while another group headed to the hospital to check for any medical records related to the surgical scar on the woman's chin. After three days of investigation, they still found no clues.
This horrifying homicide case caused severe social panic; citizens feared they might be the next victim. The prolonged lack of resolution increased pressure on the police.
To gather more clues, the police issued a reward notice. Soon after, a man called in claiming he had seen that floral dress somewhere before, but after investigation, his lead was ruled out.
Not long after, another man contacted the police, stating that the floral dress resembled his ex-girlfriend's nightgown. He also mentioned that his ex-girlfriend had a scar on her chin and a missing tooth as well.
Upon receiving this crucial lead, the police immediately drove to find the caller, Jin.
According to Jin, his ex-girlfriend's name was Ji Xiaofeng, she was 26 years old from Zhumadian, Henan. She had previously worked at a foot massage parlor as a Hardware Softening Engineer.
After they started dating, Jin could not accept his girlfriend's job, which led to their breakup.
Just five or six days ago, he, who had been thinking about Xiaofeng, wanted to reconnect. However, every time he tried to call, Xiaofeng's phone went unanswered.
Using this lead, the police located Xiaofeng's boss.
According to the boss, before her disappearance, Xiaofeng had been very close with a young man in his twenties. After Xiaofeng went missing, that young man never returned. Could this man be connected to Xiaofeng's death?
By questioning Xiaofeng's ex-boyfriend Jin, the police drove him to Xiaofeng's apartment for investigation. As soon as they arrived downstairs, a man walked out of the hallway. Jin quickly pulled the officers aside and said that this man was Xiaofeng's current boyfriend.
The police were puzzled; it seemed that the current boyfriend lived with Xiaofeng. If she had truly been missing for so many days, why hadn't he reported it?
Or perhaps the deceased was not Xiaofeng at all.
To uncover the truth, one group of officers discreetly followed Xiaofeng's current boyfriend while another group contacted the landlord to open the apartment door. Upon entering, the officers were hit by a familiar metallic scent of blood. Although the room was very simple, it was in disarray.
While investigating the room, they discovered a significant amount of splattered blood in both the bedroom and bathroom. Although the scene had been cleaned up, some traces of blood remained, and they also found a hammer stained dark red.
This indicated that this was likely the primary crime scene. After collecting some blood samples, the police conducted DNA tests and compared them with the skull found in the canal, confirming they belonged to the same person.
Xiaofeng's current boyfriend became a prime suspect. Following instructions from their colleagues tracking him, the police swiftly moved in for an arrest; he offered no resistance during the entire process.
Upon questioning, Xiaofeng's current boyfriend identified himself as Qi Longdong, 26 years old from Yancheng in Jiangsu Province. The massage parlor owner recognized Qi Longdong as someone who frequently sought out Xiaofeng.
Once taken to the police station, Qi Longdong quickly confessed to his crimes.
But why would he harm his beloved girlfriend?
Two years ago, Qi Longdong came to Zhengzhou to work with a few fellow villagers. One day, while he and a fellow villager were relaxing at a massage parlor, he inadvertently met Xiaofeng. Seeing that Xiaofeng was young, beautiful, and articulate, Qi Longdong was completely enchanted by her.
Having never been in love before, Qi Longdong found himself falling for Xiaofeng. He was handsome and tall, standing over six feet, and Xiaofeng had some feelings for him as well. Before long, the two moved in together.
As their relationship deepened, Qi Longdong proposed the idea of marriage, suggesting that Xiaofeng should stop working as a Hardware Softening Engineer and let him take care of her financially.
Although Xiaofeng felt touched by his words, she couldn't help but wonder how much a carpenter like Qi Longdong could actually earn.
He insisted that she should quit her job and promised to support her. However, it wasn't long before Qi Longdong noticed that Xiaofeng frequently went missing.
No matter how many times he tried to call her, he couldn't get through. So he decided to wait outside the massage parlor to observe. To his dismay, he discovered that Xiaofeng often spent time with other men. Furious, he confronted her, leading to a heated argument between them. Once again, he brought up marriage, but Xiaofeng refused to agree.
On August 2nd, after a long day of work, Qi Longdong returned to their rented apartment only to find Xiaofeng absent once more. Frustrated and unable to reach her by phone, he went to the massage parlor. There he saw Xiaofeng attending to another client and immediately pulled her out of the establishment, resulting in a fierce argument on the street.
When they returned home, their fight escalated even further. In an attempt to ease the tension between them, Qi Longdong embraced Xiaofeng and tried to comfort her. However, she was unresponsive and grabbed a broom to strike him, declaring that she wanted to break up with him.
Those words infuriated Qi Longdong. In a fit of rage, he grabbed Xiaofeng by the neck. As she struggled against him, she taunted him to go ahead and kill her if he dared.
In a moment of madness, Qi Longdong yanked a computer cable from nearby and tightened it around Xiaofeng's neck. Within moments, she was lifeless.
Seeing that Xiaofeng was dead brought him an overwhelming sense of relief; now his girlfriend could never betray or leave him again. He then fell asleep holding her body.
The next morning, when Qi Longdong woke up, he was horrified to see red and purple blotches appearing on Xiaofeng's body—signs of post-mortem lividity. He realized that due to the heat, her body had begun to decompose and emit a foul odor. To avoid being discovered, he hurriedly went out to buy a suitcase.
Xiaofeng was quite tall, and her body had become stiff. Qi Longdong found it impossible to fit Xiaofeng's corpse into the space available, so he came up with a clever solution: he decided to dismember the body.
He started by using a kitchen knife.
After some time, he realized that the head wouldn't fit, so he casually grabbed something from the rented room to wrap it up.
After several hours of chopping at the corpse, Qi Longdong felt exhausted. He lay down on the bed and slept for a few hours. By around 10 PM, he took advantage of the darkness to dispose of the suitcase containing the body. Upon returning to his rented room, he also threw Xiaofeng's head into the Canal in the East District.
With Qi Longdong's guidance, the police discovered the suitcase in a cornfield within Xingyang. However, what was even more shocking came next.
After extracting DNA from Xiaofeng's parents and son for further confirmation, it was established that the head found in the suitcase and plastic bag indeed belonged to Xiaofeng.
It was only then that Qi Longdong realized that his beloved girlfriend had already been married and had a two-year-old son.
Moreover, aside from their relationship, Xiaofeng had also been involved with several other men.
One could only wonder how Qi Longdong felt upon discovering this truth.
