"Wait!" As I saw them about to smack my head, I quickly shouted, "Haven't you guys gotten tired of playing the same game? Let me teach you a new one. What do you think?"
"Sure, tell us!" The two kids stopped and looked at me with curious expressions.
I felt nervous inside; I didn't actually have any good ideas. Although I had temporarily stalled them, if I couldn't come up with something fun, I would probably still be in trouble.
Just when I was at a loss, my gaze landed on the table where Xiaonan and the others were sitting, and I spotted a deck of playing cards.
"Let's play Landlord!"
"What’s Landlord?"
"It’s a game for three players using this deck of cards. One person is randomly chosen to be the landlord, while the other two are farmers. The farmers must work together to beat the landlord. If one farmer wins, then the farmers win; if the landlord wins first, then the landlord wins." I explained the rules to them.
The little girl was excited and eager to try. "Brother, let’s play!"
"I want you to be a farmer too," the little boy said coldly, his guard up much higher than the girl's.
I quickly replied, "No, it has to be random; that’s part of what makes this game fun. I'll take out two red cards and one black card. Whoever gets the black card will be the landlord. The other two will be farmers. Is that okay?"
"Okay!"
We moved over to a table in the hallway. I held up a flashlight in one hand, took a deep breath, and secretly pulled out three black cards from inside while hiding two red cards up my sleeve.
Then I placed the three black cards on the table and shuffled them.
As long as either of them drew a card first, I would immediately find a way to ensure that the remaining person wouldn't draw one. Since we agreed that whoever got the black card would be the landlord, one of them would definitely end up being the landlord. This way, I would effectively have an ally; at least I wouldn’t die so quickly.
But as long as I accidentally let them discover that I had made a move, I would die very quickly.
The two little ghosts stared at me without moving, and I felt my heart pounding fiercely, almost bursting out of my throat. At that moment, I didn't have the time to think about why I, without a heart, could still feel a heartbeat.
"Brother, you go first," I swallowed hard. Eventually, I had to face it; success or failure depended on this moment.
The little boy quickly picked a card. I hurriedly pressed down on the remaining two cards and stood up to pretend to look at his card. "What color is it?"
The little boy flipped the card over. "Red."
What? Red? How could that be? I clearly changed all the cards to black!
This is bad. Did I accidentally put a red card on the table in my panic and hide the black ones?
"Sister, it's my turn to draw now," just as I was lost in shock, the little girl reached out her hand.
Before I could stop her, she had already taken a card.
I was already in a position to run away, ready to bolt, but unexpectedly, the little girl suddenly exclaimed happily, "Sister, mine is a black card! I'm the landlord!"
Heaven never seals off all exits!
I had no time to look at the remaining card and happily joined the little boy in playing as farmers.
However, after just a few rounds, I was horrified to discover that the little girl who had just said she wouldn't play well actually had quite good skills. Soon, the little boy and I were forced into a position where we were about to lose.
"Sister, if I win, you have to go lie on the tracks like that auntie later!"
My hand holding the cards began to tremble. How could she speak so casually about lying on the tracks?
Just thinking about that woman in purple made me feel uneasy.
Was it really that simple to run away?
At least I managed to send them off. I patted my chest and let out a sigh of relief, but who would have thought that a voice suddenly came from behind me: "Miss, it's not fair if you have food and don't share it with me."
Seriously, are you going to be this nagging even as a ghost?
Just then, the lights in the carriage suddenly flickered on, and Su Anrong happened to come out of the restroom, wiping his hands on his clothes while smiling at me.
In that moment, I really wanted to strangle him.
