His kiss deepened gradually, shifting from light to heavy. His technique might not have been exceptional, but the delightful scent emanating from him was enough to ensnare me, an innocent girl unversed in the ways of the world. 0

My entire body felt limp, my limbs tingling, and my mind was a blank slate. 0

After feigning resistance for a moment, I quickly surrendered. 0

"Wife, let's head back to our room," Su Anrong whispered in my ear. 0

I blushed and remained silent, my head buzzing as I replayed that kiss in my mind. 0

It wasn't until he scooped me up in a princess carry and started walking toward the room that I jolted back to reality. 0

"Wait, what room? I'm not going!" I clung desperately to the doorframe, shaking my head vigorously. "First, give me a mirror. I want to see if there are any beauty effects!" 0

"There’s a mirror in the bedroom, a full-length one," Su Anrong said suggestively in my ear, his voice low and enticing. 0

My ears felt warm, and as if under a spell, I loosened my grip. 0

The door slammed shut with a loud bang, like a hammer striking and fully awakening me. 0

"I need to see the mirror! I need to look!" I couldn't let him charm me again; absolutely not. If he dared to force me, I would unleash my self-defense skills. 0

To my surprise, this rogue was surprisingly compliant today as he carried me over to the dressing mirror. 0

With immense anticipation, I slowly turned my head to look at myself in the mirror. 0

In that moment, I was completely stunned. 0

Isn't this still me? 0

Where exactly have I become more beautiful? My hair is still a mess; what’s the difference between me and a crazy woman? 0

“Darling, how do you like it? Aren't you beautiful?” 0

Wow, that question was really skillful. If I answered yes, it would seem like I was admitting that his kiss had a beautifying effect. If I said no, wouldn’t that mean I was calling myself ugly? 0

I bit my lip and mustered the courage to say, “I was already beautiful; that doesn’t need verification. But didn’t you say your kiss could make me even more beautiful? You lied to me.” 0

“If I lied to you, may the heavens strike me down! Darling, isn’t there a saying among humans that women in love are the most beautiful? My kiss represents our love; it nourishes you. So now you radiate a unique beauty from within. If you don’t believe me, you can ask our son.” 0

I finally understood. So his kiss had no beautifying effect at all; he was just fooling me. 0

“You’ve been waiting for me to fall into your trap from the start.” 0

“I didn’t expect you to actually jump in! Darling, I know such a silly trap was something you intentionally fell into, right? Because you wanted an excuse to kiss me.” 0

I pinched his arm hard. “Yes, I really want to kiss you. I wish I could kiss you until you turn purple! Now let me go!” 0

“Not a chance.” 0

“Garlic sauce!” 0

"Dear, you spent the whole day with Qiao Lianjiu, so why not spend some time with me?" Su Anrong pouted, looking pitiful. It was quite amusing to see a grown man make such a gesture; I couldn't help but find it adorable. I was definitely smitten. 0

"Genius is happy to accompany you," I huffed, then began to struggle, twisting and turning. I was determined to escape his grasp. 0

Just when I finally managed to slip away from him, a small photo slipped out of my pocket and landed right on Su Anrong's shoe. 0

We both looked down at the picture simultaneously. 0

Oh right, I almost forgot to mention this to him. 0

As I bent down to pick up the photo, Su Anrong beat me to it and crouched down first. 0

"Garlic Sauce, I just remembered to tell you this—what's your relationship with the King of Hell?" 0

Before I could finish my sentence, he ripped the photo in half. He actually tore it! 0

Wasn't that a bit too much? 0

I was so furious that my hands trembled as I snatched the torn photo from his hands. "Su Anrong, what do you mean? I hadn't even finished speaking yet. Why did you tear up my picture?" 0

"What were you going to say?" His expression had completely changed; he looked cold and stern, as if I had committed some unforgivable crime. 0

I opened my mouth but suddenly felt like saying nothing at all. "You've already torn the photo; what does it matter what I say now?" 0

"Where did this photo come from? The back mountain of your school?" He seemed completely unconcerned about my anger and kept pressing for answers. 0

"You have no right to ask where I came from," I huffed as I rummaged through the drawer for some transparent tape to fix the photo piece by piece. 0

"You are my wife, so of course I have to care about this ghost business. No matter how big or small, you shouldn't get involved; it won't do you any good." Su Anrong looked somewhat angry, his emotions surprisingly more intense than mine. 0

"Are people supposed to only care about things that benefit them? What beauty is left in this world then?" 0

"Do you even know what kind of person that is? Do you really understand him?" Once I had finished taping the photo back together, Su Anrong snatched it away again. This time, he didn't tear it; instead, he seemed ready to crush it into dust. 0

"Su Anrong, how dare you!" I shouted in anger, and he paused, seemingly startled by my outburst. "Since you're asking that question, let me ask you in return: do you really know me well enough? Why should I trust your words?" 0

Su Anrong's expression froze for a moment, as if my words had struck a deep chord within him. But I was too angry to care about his feelings; he was in the wrong first—why should I back down? 0

"My life is too long; if you want to understand me well enough, you'll need to spend your entire life doing so," Su Anrong said calmly before finally returning the photo to me. "Wheat, remember this: even if the whole world is deceiving you, I won't. You can keep this photo, but I don't want you to act out of spite. Tell me where this photo came from and what that ghost wants from you." 0

I still felt residual anger, but Su Anrong unexpectedly lowered his tone, leaving me momentarily at a loss for how to respond. 0

Faced with his hopeful gaze and those pitiful little eyes, I eventually softened and explained, "I stumbled upon a gravestone on the back mountain. The owner of the gravestone asked me to help her find her son. She said her son was a general who died in battle and couldn't be reincarnated. I agreed to help them reunite." 0

As soon as I finished speaking, Su Anrong pulled me around to inspect various parts of my body—my arms, neck, torso, and feet. 0

Finally, he stopped at my ankle, staring at the mossy mark there with a serious expression. "Did that Old Ghost do this?" 0

I nodded. "I applied it myself." 0

Su Anrong sighed softly; although he tried hard to hide it, I could still hear the concern in his voice. My heart inexplicably raced. "Garlic Sauce, what exactly happened? Given your reactions, please don't tell me you don't know him." 0

"Not exactly. He was a general during the Republic of China period, indeed died on the battlefield, but he was killed after betraying his country, so his death is not worth mourning." There are always vengeful spirits wanting to harm my sister. 0

"Uh," I hadn't expected the truth to be like this. The person in the photo had very handsome features, and his eyes were filled with righteousness. Anyone with a bit of a fascination for uniforms would find it hard to look away from him; he didn't seem like someone who would betray his country. Is this what they mean by appearances can be deceiving? 0

"Tomorrow, take me to that tombstone. This moss is a mark of the deal you made with that Old Ghost, equivalent to the seal on your current contract. Once sealed, you can't go back on it. So, if we can't break the contract, we'll have to find a way for them to meet." 0

"Suanzong, did I bring you trouble? Is that Old Ghost deliberately setting me up? His son can't reincarnate because of his own karma?" I pressed on, feeling that things were not as simple as I thought or as Suanzong said. 0

"At this point, we can only face whatever comes our way. You need to be careful at school these days. I'll have Rice follow you closely. I'll go talk to that Old Ghost. Don't worry; with me around, nothing will happen." Su Anrong's expression finally softened a bit, but I no longer felt as relaxed as before. 0

I couldn't shake the feeling that I had stumbled into a big mess. 0

"Suanzong, here’s the photo for you." For some reason, even though I didn't know him well, deep down I still believed in him. If he said there was something wrong with this photo, then there definitely was. 0

Su Anrong took the photo and gently squeezed it; it turned to ash in his palm. "You need to be careful these days. Don't easily agree to anything from strangers or strange spirits. If someone calls you from behind, don't respond. When Rice isn't around, don't get into any conflicts with anyone. Do you understand?" 0
