I stood at the empty dormitory door, feeling a bit dazed. I quickly called Gao Lele. "Lele, what's going on? Why is our dormitory cleared out?"
"Oh right, Wheat, I forgot to tell you. We've moved to a new dormitory. It's on the fourth floor, room 414. Come over; I'm in the dorm."
Why did we move to 414?
After hanging up, I reluctantly glanced back at the dormitory. It was shocking; each bed had someone lying on it, stiff as if they were corpses in a morgue, and even their blankets were pure white.
My heart skipped a beat. I rubbed my eyes, and when I opened them again, there was nothing there.
Could it really be haunted? Was it because of Siyuan's death? That shouldn't be; Siyuan wouldn't turn into a ghost to scare us, right? Did something else happen?
"Mommy, this room smells terrible," Rice said beside me, covering his nose.
"Smelly."
He nodded vigorously. "Yeah, it's the kind of smell that comes from ghosts. Mommy, we should leave quickly."
Since Rice said so, I knew I had to run.
However, just as I took a couple of steps, I bumped into someone and knocked them down.
"Are you blind? How do you walk?" A girl sprang up from the ground and was about to hit me in the face. But upon recognizing me, she immediately lunged at me and cried, "Big sister! Big sister! I finally see you again!"
This person was none other than our class flower, Zhang Mengdi. But now she had completely lost her former brilliance. The key issue was that her tears and snot were all over me—what was she doing?
I pulled her away forcefully. "Let's talk properly; no need to get physical!"
"I want to live with you," Zhang Mengdi said, her words striking me like a bolt from the blue.
"No way, I definitely don't want to live with you." Only a fool would let someone like her stay under their nose.
"Are you afraid I'll steal Qiao Lianjiu from you? I've already given up on him. I'm interested in someone else now."
"Who is so unfortunate?" I was astonished that she had given up on Qiao Lianjiu so quickly.
"Come on, how can you say that? I'm the Class Flower, and anyone I take an interest in has to be exceptional. It's an honor for them to be noticed by me."
I suspected that after her stint in a mental hospital, Zhang Mengdi might really have some issues. Since she was the patient, I decided to indulge her a bit.
I played along and asked, "Who is so fortunate?"
Zhang Mengdi blushed and said, "It's our new Business English Teacher. You met him today; he's the one we call Egg Brother."
"Egg Brother? When did I meet this Egg Brother?"
"Today your husband fed him an egg! Now we all call him Egg Brother. Don't worry, big sister, I won't let him team up with your husband. For your sake, my mission now is to make sure he doesn't get a chance to steal your husband away," Zhang Mengdi declared passionately, making me feel a bit pained.
I never expected she was talking about Lin Xiuyu. He was quite the handsome guy, enough to make girls drool. And they had the audacity to nickname him "Egg Brother." I really wanted to know how much of a shadow that name cast over Lin Xiuyu's heart.
"You’re worrying too much. I can keep my husband in check; no one can steal him away."
"Don't be too confident, big sister. With looks like yours, it might be quite difficult to hold onto your husband."
“Zhang Mengdi, don’t call me big sister. I’m not that old yet, and besides, how I look is none of your concern. How my husband is doing is also none of your business. Who you have a crush on is your own matter and has nothing to do with me.”
Zhang Mengdi was not someone to be easily provoked. Even if her temperament had changed a bit, she was still not someone to be bullied. She wasn’t worried at all about her things being broken by Fang Xiaonan. With a sharp tongue, she said, “Chen Siyuan is already dead, and you still want her to stay here? Have you forgotten how you all moved into this dorm? It was all because Chen Siyuan’s ghost kept haunting you. Don’t deny it; I’ve seen through everything.”
“You’re talking nonsense! Siyuan wouldn’t haunt us!” Fang Xiaonan’s face turned red with anger. Zhang Mengdi had already thrown out most of her belongings, and she didn’t know what else there was to throw.
“Hahaha!” Zhang Mengdi laughed loudly, mimicking Fang Xiaonan’s tone. “If Siyuan wouldn’t haunt you, then explain why your dorm has been haunted these past few days. You keep saying Chen Siyuan is your good sister and wouldn’t harm you, so what are you afraid of? If you’re so brave, why don’t you just continue living in room 308?”
“You…” Fang Xiaonan was so furious that she was at a loss for words, her eyes turning red as tears streamed down her face.
I couldn’t watch any longer and quickly shouted, “Zhang Mengdi, tonight you should stay in room 308 for a night. If you dare, we’ll accept you as our new roommate; if not, get lost.”
Fang Xiaonan grabbed my hand like she had found a savior and said to Zhang Mengdi, “Do you dare?”
“What’s there to be afraid of? If there’s a grievance, there’s a reason behind it. I haven’t offended Chen Siyuan at all, so I’m not scared. But I have one condition: if I stay for one night, each of you three has to wash my clothes for a week.”
