Seeing Zhang Mengdi now, I find her beautiful face particularly annoying. She is just a pretty shell, completely devoid of heart, soul, or any sense of decency.
I was already in a bad mood, and this little brat didn’t know how to read the room. I snapped and cursed, "Zhang Mengdi, did you drink too much Sanlu milk? Are you naturally as dumb as a cucumber? You must be asking for it with those big eyes of yours. Can't you see that Teacher Wang has passed away? Egg Brother is your Egg Brother, and it has nothing to do with me. If you want to see him, go back to your own world. It's like I’ve never done anything right in my life to have met someone like you; even throwing you into the sun would be too good for you."
As I continued to rant, tears streamed down my face again as I thought of Teacher Wang. I truly felt sorry for her.
Zhang Mengdi stared at me blankly. She had been ready to cry herself, but upon seeing my tears, she immediately stopped. "Wheat, you’ve cursed me out like this and I haven’t cried yet. Why are you crying?"
"What I cry about is none of your business. Go take care of your Egg Brother."
To my surprise, Zhang Mengdi rushed over and took my hand. "Wheat, Egg Brother has woken up. He wants to see you. What are you doing?"
Su Anrong grabbed Zhang Mengdi's hand and twisted it gently, causing her to yelp in pain.
He said coldly, "Can’t you see she doesn’t want to go?"
"Egg Brother saved her; what’s wrong with her going to see him?" Zhang Mengdi rubbed her wrist in pain and pouted.
Su Anrong’s expression changed slightly as he looked at me. "Who is Egg Brother and how did he save you?"
"Egg Brother is Lin Xiuyu," Zhang Mengdi chimed in eagerly, her eyes sparkling with infatuation.
Upon hearing Lin Xiuyu's name, Su Anrong's face fell, while Zhang Mengdi continued chattering away. "You don’t know how handsome Lin Xiuyu was when he carried Wheat out! He looked just like a superhero!"
Who would have thought that after being cursed out like that, Zhang Mengdi would still be completely unfazed?
Just as surprising was Su Anrong's reaction when he heard her mention Lin Xiuyu carrying me out. Although he seemed frozen in place like an ice statue, his words were completely unexpected: "No wonder Wheat came out unscathed; it turns out there was a superhero involved. Honey, let’s go thank your savior properly."
I originally didn't want to go, but remembering what Teacher Wang said—that she wasn't the one who caused Lin Xiuyu's stroke—made me realize that I might have misunderstood him.
After all, he saved not just me; I was probably just being overly sentimental, thinking he was deliberately getting close to me.
As my thoughts swirled, Su Anrong grabbed my hand and led me toward Lin Xiuyu's hospital room.
Lin Xiuyu had a bandage wrapped around his head and his arm in a cast. The room was filled with a large group of girls, and when they saw us enter, they immediately erupted in chatter: "Ah, Lord Zunshang!"
But upon seeing our hands tightly clasped together, the girls pouted in disappointment and turned their attention back to Lin Xiuyu.
Lin Xiuyu calmly spoke, "You all need to leave." Of course, this was directed at the girls.
"Don't! Teacher Lin, let us take care of you!"
"Leave, please. You're making my head hurt." I couldn't believe how patient he was being.
The girls were about to protest further when Zhang Mengdi snapped, "I told you to get out! Can't you understand human language? Egg Brother needs rest right now!"
With a hiss, Zhang Mengdi's mention of Egg Brother nearly startled Lin Xiuyu off the bed, but in his excitement, he inadvertently tugged at his wound. "Zhang Mengdi, you need to leave too."
"Zhang Mengdi, you should go as well. What are you being so arrogant for?"
Amidst the laughter of the other girls, Zhang Mengdi followed them out.
Su Anrong casually closed the door behind us.
What kind of rhythm is this?
I sat nervously to the side as Su Anrong coldly stared at Lin Xiuyu. "So, what do you want with my wife?"
Lin Xiuyu replied in a calm tone, "Today's Practical Training was canceled due to the earthquake. I want Youmai Vegetable to go back and prepare well. Once I'm discharged, we'll put on a perfect presentation for our classmates."
"I already said I'm not doing it anymore." Did he really call me here for something like this? Is he out of his mind?
"What Practical Training?" Su Anrong asked with a smile, but I felt that his smile concealed countless sharp knives.
"It's nothing. Let's go; you seem fine. I wish you a speedy recovery." After saying that, I grabbed Su Anrong and tried to leave.
But Lin Xiuyu called out from behind, "Youmai Vegetable, did I offend you in some way? Conducting Practical Training in the Classroom is one of my teaching methods. If you have any objections, feel free to raise them so we can improve together."
"You’re overthinking it. I just hate studying, so I don’t want to cooperate with you. It’s that simple."
"Students should prioritize their studies. Aren't you here to learn more knowledge?" Lin Xiuyu insisted.
Su Anrong replied unhappily, "You’re absolutely right; my wife isn’t here to gain knowledge. If she were really here to learn, she could ask me anything she doesn’t understand. I know more than any teacher at your school, so there's no need for your concern."
Su Anrong, are you really speaking up for me? It sounds more like you're mocking me for not studying hard enough.
Before I could interject, Su Anrong tightly grasped my hand and pulled me outside. As the door opened, we found ourselves surrounded by girls.
Lin Xiuyu's voice came from behind us: "Well then, I hope you both have fun."
It was a simple sentence, yet it sent a chill down my spine.
The girls rushed in and quickly surrounded Lin Xiuyu.
On the way home, I asked Su Anrong with some concern, "Did that ridiculous formation you set up at our school work?"
"Of course it worked. However, this recent earthquake has disrupted the formation, so your school will probably find it hard to have peace from now on."
"If it got disrupted, can't you just set up another one?"
Su Anrong sighed lightly and didn't respond to my question, which made my heart tighten. "What's wrong?"
"Nothing, dear. Why don't you just come back? I already know everything you learned; I can teach you."
"I don't want that. Why would I want you to teach me? I enjoy being with my classmates; I don't want to face you every day." My intuition told me that something was bothering Su Anrong, but he clearly didn't want to share it with me.
Rice poked his head out from the back seat and said, "Mommy, Daddy used to be a private tutor and taught several top scholars!"
"I don't want to be a top scholar; I don't need him to teach me." He wanted to keep the truth from me while trying to coax me out of school, but I wasn't falling for it.
"Then I'll take you to see the beautiful scenery all over the country. If you want to travel the world, I'll take you around the globe. How about an impromptu trip?" Su Anrong looked at me with a charming smile, completely embodying the image of an ideal man.
To be honest, traveling the world had always been my dream, but right now, my mind was nowhere near that.
"I don't want to go."
"Don't worry, when we take the plane, I'll carry you wherever we need to walk."
"Su Anrong, stop pretending and dodging the question. If you trust me, tell me the truth. Why do you want me to leave school? If you’re honest, I might actually listen to you."
"Because I think continuing your studies is a waste of life. It's better to..." Su Anrong turned slightly, and quickly noticed my rising anger. There always seemed to be some malevolent spirit wanting to harm me.
"Su Anrong, I don't want to hear any more of your lies. Either tell me the truth or don’t talk to me again."
After I finished speaking in anger, the car fell silent, only the sound of Rice tapping on the seat could be heard.
Su Anrong turned his head and was silent for a while before saying, "Honey, if I'm not as capable as you think, would you hate me for not being able to protect you?"
I had never heard Su Anrong speak in such a serious and sorrowful tone before. For a moment, I was at a loss for words, followed by an inexplicable sense of heartache.
Perhaps it was because I hadn't fully recovered from Teacher Wang's departure. Hearing Su Anrong, who usually joked around, speak like this made me feel even worse.
"I never thought you were that great or expected you to protect me. What is there to hate?" In truth, I knew deep down that whenever danger arose, he was the first person I thought of. Just having him around made me feel safe. But now I felt uneasy and didn't know what Su Anrong had been through.
Tears streamed down my face uncontrollably.
