I quickly grabbed the talisman paper, intending to stick it back on, but he raised his claw first and lunged toward my chest.
"Seriously? You're going to grab me when you're that small?"
Unfortunately, my hands were not as long as his. Just as he was about to reach my chest, I still hadn't touched his forehead, and I felt a pang of anxiety. My innocence!
These parents are really something else.
"Watch my Flying Mountain Shadowless Leg!" I gritted my teeth and lifted my foot to kick him below.
"Aow!" the man let out a low cry, and a shadow darted out from his body. It was a large, chubby man.
I hurried over and shouted at him, "Fatty, you stop right there!"
The chubby man clamped his legs together in fear and looked at me. "You can see me?"
"Of course! Not only can I see you, but I can also hit you. Be smart and stand still."
As I was speaking, the man I had kicked in the groin looked at me in surprise. "Who are you talking to?"
"Your son."
"You mean Dog Egg? Dog Egg is really here?" The man excitedly moved closer to me, reaching around in the air.
I couldn't help but take two steps back, furrowing my brows as I asked the chubby man, "You really are just like your dad—always touching things randomly."
"He’s not my dad! You tell him to hurry back; staying here is useless. I’d rather die!"
"You know me?"
"With a name like that and such a distinctive look, it’s hard not to recognize you. Just tell him to get back quickly!" The chubby man said this and turned to run.
"Hey! Where do you think you're going? Stop!" I quickly chased after him, but before I could take more than a few steps, he suddenly stopped, turned around, and his eyes were as red as blood.
He looked at me with an evil glare that was completely different from the innocent demeanor he had just moments ago.
"Mommy, it smells so bad," Rice said, suddenly pulling out a small bottle and splashing it at the fat ghost. I was startled and instinctively lunged forward.
"Don't!"
His method might work on other ghosts, but these students had died unexpectedly. Although they all harbored resentment, they were innocent; they hadn't committed any grave sins and deserved a chance to be reborn. Rice's concoctions were powerful, and if he accidentally caused them to vanish completely, it would be a grave mistake.
However, I missed my target. The fat ghost seemed smarter than I had imagined and dodged Rice's attack.
He looked at Rice as if he had transformed, his mouth emitting a voice that didn't belong to him: "Hehehe, is this the medicine boy?"
As he spoke, he drooled and approached Rice. "You look delicious."
Rice showed no fear and replied, "If you have the guts, come and taste it!" Just as he finished speaking, his body swayed and vanished from sight. Then I saw a steel ball, about the size of a quail egg, fly straight into the fat ghost's mouth.
"Ah!" the fat ghost screamed as several white teeth flew out and landed on the ground. The steel ball then bounced beside me and transformed back into Rice.
"Hahaha, how does it taste?" Rice laughed triumphantly.
The fat ghost's face darkened with rage, an icy aura surrounding him. "You dare to toy with me?" His body surged toward us like a giant helium balloon. Midway through his charge, a sword fell from the sky, piercing through his back and emerging from his belly before swiftly returning to Qiao Ziyuan's hand.
Qiao Ziyuan examined the sword and sniffed it. "No wonder I couldn't exorcise for so long; it's you, Old Ghost, causing trouble. Show yourself!" She poured a cup of water from the table over the sword, and a shadow emerged from it.
It was a small, hunched old woman with deeply sunken eye sockets; unless one looked closely, they wouldn't even notice she had eyes.
At the same time, the fat ghost regained his senses. Upon seeing the old woman, he quickly ran towards me.
I instinctively tried to dodge, but he whispered, "Youmai Vegetable, let me hide." With that, he squeezed behind me.
What was happening? Was he afraid of that Old Ghost?
Over there, Qiao Ziyuan's expression turned serious upon seeing the Old Ghost. She sternly asked, "Evil spirit, why do you use these innocent children?"
The Old Ghost chuckled darkly, revealing her pitch-black teeth. "You just said it yourself; ghosts can possess them because they harbor guilt in their hearts. So how can you call them innocent? Even if I don't possess them, other ghosts will."
"You possess the body of a ghost? I've only heard of ghosts possessing humans, never of one ghost possessing another. And to do it all at once with so many people..." My voice gradually faded as I spoke, for deep down, I seemed to have found the answer. If she could do what other ghosts could not, it meant she was quite formidable.
Perhaps I should refrain from getting involved in this commotion.
"Rice, shall we withdraw for now?"
"Mommy, don't be afraid. I will protect you." Rice stood in front of me like a little adult.
The Old Ghost turned her gaze towards me. "Little girl, have you fulfilled your promise to me?"
"What promise did I make?" My heart tightened involuntarily. Could she be the Old Ghost from the tombstone? Wasn't she supposed to be unable to come out? How did she manage to escape?
"You signed a contract with me. If you want to back out now, I'm afraid it's too late," she said, suddenly leaping into the air like an old toad, claws outstretched as she lunged at me.
Just as I was about to dodge, I noticed her body had stopped mid-air. Qiao Ziyuan was holding a hook that snagged her pants. If she moved forward any further, her pants would come off. That was quite a clever move.
The Old Ghost shouted angrily, "How dare you, a mere Ghost Hunter, use such despicable tricks! How can you face your ancestors from the Qiao Family?"
"You know I'm a Ghost Hunter, yet you still act so arrogantly."
"Even your Great-Grandma would treat me with respect! How can you, a little girl, speak to your elders like this? Go home and let your mother teach you some manners!" The Old Ghost retreated suddenly and landed on the ground.
Furious, Qiao Ziyuan grabbed a bowl of water from the table and splashed it onto the Old Ghost's face. The Old Ghost covered her face and screamed.
"How dare you ruin my appearance!"
"Hahaha! You think you need to worry about your looks? Let me tell you something: my Great-Grandma doesn't bother with someone of your level. Do you know why your grave hasn’t been moved? No one comes to pay respects because you've done too much evil and lost your virtue. Thus, you're destined to have no descendants and live out your life in solitude. After death, no one will remember you."
Qiao Ziyuan spoke rapidly without taking a breath, while the Old Ghost jumped up and down in anger, completely losing her composure.
"You infuriate me!" The Old Ghost exclaimed as a powerful force radiated from her body. Qiao Ziyuan's white robe fluttered wildly in the wind, and the talismans on the table began to fly around. "You foolish little brat, I will make you pay for this!"
The table rattled loudly as I noticed that aside from the candles lit on it, all other candles around the campus had been extinguished.
The Fat Ghost clutched my clothes from behind, exclaiming, "Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, we're in trouble!"
I felt a sense of foreboding as well. Qiao Ziyuan, are you really a Ghost Hunter? It seems like instead of catching the ghost, you've angered her instead.
Qiao Ziyuan stood there, looking completely unfazed. "I'm just waiting. But before that, please put on your Pants." With a gentle gesture, she directed a talisman towards the Old Ghost. As the talisman made contact with her Pants, no matter how much the Old Ghost tugged at them, the Pants stubbornly fell down.
"Hahaha!" The Fat Ghost laughed a few times before suddenly stopping, staring in horror at the Old Ghost.
But the Old Ghost had no time to pay attention to him; she transformed into a wisp of Azure Smoke and vanished from sight.
"Auntie, did you get us into trouble?" I nervously looked at Qiao Ziyuan; she was so unreliable.
"Little girl, you underestimate me too much. Now that the Old Ghost has left, I can help them move on. Tear down the talismans," Qiao Ziyuan said, pointing at the Fat Ghost. "Tell me, how much hatred do you hold against your parents to be so easily manipulated by the Old Ghost using their forms?"
"Who told them to only give me five hundred bucks a month? It's impossible for me to date!" the Fat Ghost replied sheepishly as he obediently returned to his parents' side.
I hurried over to Qiao Ziyuan and quietly asked, "Auntie, this fat guy's dad cheated. Should we tell his mom?"
