"Daddy, you won!" Rice exclaimed, dancing with joy.
Su Anrong, with his thick skin, didn't seem to feel embarrassed about his underhanded tactics. Instead, he couldn't hide his delight as he turned to Lin Xiuyu and said, "You lost."
Lin Xiuyu wore a stern expression, struggling to find words. Perhaps in all his life, he had never encountered someone so shameless—truth be told, neither had I.
"You can win in such a despicable way and still feel justified?" Lin Xiuyu asked through clenched teeth, anger evident in his eyes.
"As long as I win, why should I care about anything else?" Su Anrong replied, rubbing his wrist and ignoring the furious Lin Xiuyu. He stepped closer to me and took my hand. "Wife, let's go home with your husband."
His palm was cool, yet I could feel warmth spreading to my heart. But I couldn't leave just yet; Chen Siyuan was still on the back mountain. However, Su Anrong had mentioned not interfering too much with our school's affairs. If I told him about this situation, he would likely feel troubled.
Seeing me hesitate, Su Anrong leaned down with concern in his eyes. "Wife, what's wrong?"
I hesitated but ultimately spoke up. "Garlic Sauce, Siyuan is still on the back mountain. She's in danger. Qiao Lianjiu's mother went to rescue her, but it's been almost an hour and she hasn't come out. I can't just leave like this."
"She made it through?" he asked in surprise.
I understood he was asking if Chen Siyuan had passed Qiao Ziyuan's challenge. "It wasn't that easy; that's not the point. Siyuan only has two arms left now; I'm worried about her." As I spoke, my nose began to tingle with emotion.
Su Anrong pulled me into his embrace and gently patted my head. "Silly girl, you underestimate Qiao Ziyuan too much. She's a Ghost Hunter and a descendant of the Qiao Family; ordinary ghosts can't harm her. With her going to rescue Chen Siyuan, they'll definitely be fine."
"But Aunt Qiao doesn't seem that reliable," I replied. It wasn't that I didn't trust her; it was just that her performance had been disappointing.
"You can't judge someone's reliability just by appearances. Have you heard the saying 'great wisdom appears foolish'?"
"Is that what describes someone like me?"
"You are truly foolish."
"Get lost," I replied. With his comforting words, I felt my mood lift significantly. I pretended to kick at him, and he lightly jumped aside, just as I noticed Lin Xiuyu watching us with a cold expression.
He still hadn't left; it seemed he had quite the thick skin.
Lizard and Little Lizard tried to stick to Lin Xiuyu again, but he effortlessly sent them flying with a punch, as if he possessed some divine strength.
At that moment, someone came running over, drenched in sweat and holding a basketball. It was Qiao Lianjiu.
I remembered Qiao Ziyuan mentioning that she had called Qiao Lianjiu, so I intended to greet him.
However, Su Anrong grabbed my hand, signaling me not to move.
Qiao Lianjiu, who had been running toward me, hesitated for a moment before quickly changing direction and heading toward the back mountain.
I hurriedly called out, "Qiao Lianjiu!"
He stopped and glanced at us, but it was as if he didn't recognize me. He continued running toward the back mountain.
"Honey, let's not get involved in their matters anymore; they'll handle it themselves. If the Qiao Family can't even resolve this little issue, then they wouldn't deserve to be called the Qiao Family," Su Anrong said as he wrapped his arms around my waist from behind.
I was slightly taken aback and hadn't fully processed what was happening when he suddenly lifted me off the ground. "Let's go wait for them outside; the air here isn't fresh." He cast a meaningful glance at Lin Xiuyu, clearly implying that he was polluting the air.
Knowing it wasn't convenient for him to come to our school, I didn't oppose him any further. Even if I went, I wouldn't be able to help Siyuan.
Sitting in Su Anrong's car, my heart gradually calmed down. I hoped that Siyuan would truly be okay.
A face suddenly pressed against our car window, startling me. It was Zhang Mengdi.
I quickly rolled down the window, and she cheerfully exclaimed, "Wheat, it's really you! I just saw you!" As she spoke, she glanced towards our car door, seemingly wanting to get in.
I was reluctant to let her in and coldly replied, "Weren't you busy just now? You ran off so quickly when we needed you. What are you doing popping up now?"
"Wheat, it's a long story. Let me explain."
Seeing that she genuinely seemed to have something to say, I decided to give her a chance and opened the door for her to sit inside.
"Hello, Lord Zunshang," she greeted Su Anrong with infatuation, but Su Anrong completely ignored her, showing no reaction at all.
"Spit it out already," I said, turning her head back towards me.
"Wheat, don't you think our school is a bit strange?" Zhang Mengdi's smile faded as she looked at me nervously. "I feel like something's been off lately."
So even Zhang Mengdi noticed something was wrong?
"Wheat, you need to say something. It's not just me who feels this way, right?"
"Is it? I don't feel anything," I replied, unwilling to admit anything and wanting her to experience a bit of anxiety.
Sure enough, Zhang Mengdi's face turned pale. "No way, Wheat. Do you think I really have a mental illness? You don't know that last night I was alone in the dormitory; it felt so lonely. But then at midnight, the whole dorm building became lively again. I even heard someone singing!"
"What's so strange about that? It just means someone else is still at school like you."
"Even so, it's just..."
Zhang Mengdi seemed to want to say something, but I interrupted her and asked, "More than that, I want to know what’s going on with Lin Xiuyu. Weren't you quite fond of him yesterday? Why do you look like a mouse seeing a cat today?"
"You really shouldn't ask me about that."
"Why can't I? Did he threaten you?"
"No, it's what I did to him," Zhang Mengdi said, burying her face in her chest. After taking a deep breath, she lifted her head and sighed, "Let's not bring up the past."
The more I looked at her, the more I felt something was off. What could she have done to Lin Xiuyu that would make her so afraid of him?
Besides, with her abilities, it wouldn't be that easy for her to do anything to Lin Xiuyu.
"I give you one minute to explain what happened, or get lost," I said irritably.
"Wheat, please don't rush me! I'll tell you!" Zhang Mengdi hurriedly replied. "Actually, I almost... well, I almost got intimate with him yesterday, and then he got angry and left the hospital. He told me to avoid him from now on and that I must call him Teacher Lin, or else..."
I wasn't particularly interested in Zhang Mengdi's personal matters, but her hesitance piqued my curiosity. "Can you just say it all at once? Or else what?"
"Or else he would turn me into an egg."
"Pfft!" I couldn't help but burst out laughing. "You actually believed that?"
Zhang Mengdi glanced around and then lowered her voice. "I didn't believe it at first, but he really did turn me into an egg! I was terrified! Wheat, do you think this Teacher Lin is some kind of monster?"
In the rearview mirror, I noticed Su Anrong's expression shift slightly.
Zhang Mengdi finally touched on a topic that intrigued me. "Are you sure you're not seeing things?"
Zhang Mengdi burst into tears, sobbing like a child, and it was quite enough.
"I wish I were just seeing things, but I clearly saw my hands and feet being squeezed into my body, turning into a round egg. Wuwuwu, with my beauty, I don’t want to become an egg!"
"Garlic Sauce, do you know what’s going on?" I handed Zhang Mengdi two tissues. "Can Lin Xiuyu really turn others into eggs?"
"No, it’s just a binding spell combined with a bit of Illusion, making you think you’ve turned into an egg. In reality, you haven’t actually transformed."
Su Anrong's words instantly quieted Zhang Mengdi. She wiped her nose vigorously and said, "You scared me! Thankfully, it’s not real."
"If there’s no one at school, don’t stay there alone. Just go home," I sighed. I couldn’t just watch her walk into danger.
"Our family is from out of town; I can’t go back in such a short time. How about this, Wheat? Can I stay at your house?"
Oh no, this would be like lifting a rock only to drop it on my own foot. If she stayed at my place, it would probably end up in chaos. Plus, my mom definitely wouldn’t like her; if they got into a fight, I wouldn’t be able to mediate.
Before I could respond to Zhang Mengdi, my phone rang. It was Qiao Lianjiu calling.
