"Am I really not hearing this wrong about the marriage?"
"Auntie, it's so easy for you to pass on this mother-in-law role, but I never expected that my husband would have to go and pay respects to your son!"
Yet, I couldn't find any reason to refute it. After all, Su Anrong was currently possessed by Siyuan. I could only desperately try to imagine him as Siyuan, but after a while, I realized how difficult that truly was.
I looked at the two kneeling in front of the altar with immense resentment. The only thing that provided me with a bit of comfort was that they weren't wearing any wedding attire.
“Mommy, come help me! It's so heavy!” Rice suddenly emerged from his room, clutching a large bundle of bright red clothing.
At that moment, my heart sank. I had just been relieved that there was no wedding attire. What on earth was Rice carrying?
“Mommy, please come help!” he called out, completely oblivious to my distress. I felt like crying.
But now that it had come to this, I could only brace myself and face it.
The bright red wedding attire was festive and made of fine material with exquisite embroidery, resembling styles from ancient times. It seemed like it had been prepared long ago. So, did Su Anrong actually anticipate that today would come?
“Mommy, Daddy said this outfit will definitely fit you! Hurry and try it on!”
“Fit me?” Wasn't it supposed to be for him and Qiao Lianjiu?
“Yes! Daddy just told me that once you resolve Aunt Siyuan's matter, you’ll be marrying him. Mommy, I want to be your little flower girl!”
My gloomy mood instantly dissipated. Hearing Rice say that Su Anrong wanted to wear this wedding attire with me filled my heart with an inexplicable sweetness. My face flushed instantly.
No, no! How could I so hastily agree to marry?
“Wait a minute, Rice, marriage is a significant matter in life! How can I just marry your daddy without waiting for Grandma and Grandpa to return?”
“But I think Mommy seems unhappy, so I want you to marry early and be happy!” Rice blinked his big eyes and added, “But if Mommy doesn’t like it, you can just put it away. After all, whether you marry or not, you’re still my mommy.”
Rice, you little rascal! You're going to drive me crazy!
“Couple Bowing,” over there, Qiao Ziyuan was multitasking; having just played the role of the officiant, he now took on the role of the emcee.
Qiao Lianjiu and Su Anrong turned around, facing each other.
I watched helplessly as they performed the Couple Bowing ceremony.
My heart shattered into pieces.
Oh right, didn’t my mom say I didn’t have a heart? How come I’ve never felt this way all these years?
“Once the ceremony is complete, they’ll be sent to the bridal chamber,” Qiao Ziyuan said excitedly, getting more and more into it. “Youmai Vegetable, hurry up and send them off!”
Send them off? That’s enough, Auntie.
“Youmai Vegetable, why are your eyes blazing?” Qiao Ziyuan asked in surprise.
I gritted my teeth. Fine, for Siyuan’s sake, I’ll hold it in for now. I approached them, and Qiao Lianjiu occasionally glanced my way, making me feel uneasy.
I treated Siyuan’s previous room as the bridal chamber, supporting Su Anrong, who was possessed by Siyuan, toward it. My heart bled, my flesh trembled, and tears threatened to spill.
I was personally sending my own husband into someone else’s bridal chamber.
Qiao Ziyuan looked at them with satisfaction, laughing joyfully. “They really do look good together! Youmai Vegetable, don’t misunderstand; I’m not talking about your husband and my son, but about Siyuan!”
Do you think I’m blind?
At that moment, I didn’t want to talk to her at all. I just wanted to hold on.
“Let them stay in the bridal chamber for an hour, then it’ll be over. Your husband will be returned to you, and my daughter-in-law will come out unscathed. Of course, that’s the best-case scenario.”
“Could there be a bad situation?”
“Exactly! As I mentioned before, if things don’t go well, Siyuan might not come out at all, and your husband’s body could be permanently occupied by her. But that’s still better; the worst-case scenario is that they fight over that body, and then he’ll be half your husband and half Siyuan.”
How could you not say this earlier?
“Don’t worry; that worst-case scenario is unlikely to happen unless your husband doesn’t cooperate and wants to escape early. Then there might be a chance.” Before she finished speaking, she widened her eyes at the door of Siyuan’s room.
I looked back, and I froze in place.
Su Anrong had come out much earlier than expected, but the way he looked now was just like Qiao Ziyuan's life—half of him was himself, and half was Siyuan. I thought she was referring to their inner selves, but who knew it was about their appearance?
It seemed that Su Anrong was still unaware of his own changes; he needed someone to point it out to him.
"Auntie, could you please take your son and daughter-in-law home?"
Seeing that Su Anrong was really about to explode, Qiao Ziyuan quickly smiled and said, "But it's not what you think. Youmai Vegetable, your thoughts are too dirty. He’s just staying inside with my son to give Siyuan a period of adjustment. Once she fully adapts, they can completely separate into two individuals."
"Why do I have to stay alone with Qiao Lianjiu in the room?" Su Anrong quickly grasped the crux of the issue.
"Because it's the bridal chamber; of course, you need to be together," Qiao Master suddenly groaned and collapsed on the ground, unconscious.
The culprit, Garlic Boy, stood beside her holding a frying pan. Rice and I exchanged shocked glances.
"Oh no! Daddy has killed someone! Didn't you say we can't harm humans? What are we going to do? Will the police come after us?"
"Don't worry; this isn't murder. I just saw she was tired and let her sleep for a bit. This was well thought out; it's not casual at all," Su Anrong said as he handed the frying pan to me. "Honey, I want to eat chives tonight."
"Why on earth would you want to eat chives? You'll just end up with a mouthful of chive flavor."
"I know you're doubting my sexual orientation right now. Eat more chives tonight so you'll know your husband is still quite capable," Su Anrong laughed. That smile—half of it was him and half was Siyuan—was as ugly as it could get, as awkward as it could be, and as terrifying as it could be.
How could I possibly sleep with someone like this at night? I couldn't do it!
"Daddy, looking like this makes it hard for me to eat. How can Mommy sleep?" Rice truly spoke the words that resonated with my heart.
Su Anrong paused for a moment, as if he had just forgotten about this detail, then immediately walked toward Siyuan's room.
I followed him and pushed the door open again.
I was stunned once more.
It turned out that Su Anrong wasn't the only one like this. In the room, Qiao Lianjiu stared at Siyuan on the bed, looking completely dazed. And now Siyuan also had half of Su Anrong's face and half of her own.
“Ha ha ha, Daddy, you’re not alone anymore!”
Su Anrong’s facial muscles began to twitch, and he couldn’t help but wonder what it felt like to see half of his face on someone else.
It was probably as uncomfortable as waking up in the morning to find his face covered in drool.
“What do I have to do to turn back into myself?” Su Anrong gritted his teeth and grabbed Qiao Lianjiu’s collar.
Qiao Lianjiu wiped the sweat from his forehead. “You’ll have to ask my mom.” As he spoke, he walked into the living room, only to find Qiao Ziyuan lying on the floor in a completely awkward position. Qiao Lianjiu’s face turned pale.
At that moment, it seemed like he and Su Anrong could engage in a battle of expressions.
The tides had turned; in the next second, it was Qiao Lianjiu who grabbed Su Anrong’s collar. “What’s wrong with my mom?”
