I arrived at a dilapidated little hut and saw a young girl. She was completely naked, chained to the room by an iron link. Her body was covered in scars and filth, and the stench was unbearable. I covered my nose with my hand, a surge of anger rising within me. I placed a piece of cloth over her and gently patted her face. "Are you okay, miss?"
She blinked vacantly, drool trickling from the corner of her mouth as she smiled foolishly. I sighed and placed my hand on her head, probing into her memories. Her name was Meiyun, a top student from the neighboring village. She had received her university acceptance letter and was filled with dreams of a bright future, but her stepmother disagreed.
Meiyun's mother had passed away, and her father remarried. The stepmother had given birth to younger siblings after moving in. With the family's financial burden heavy, the stepmother persuaded her father not to let Meiyun attend university, suggesting it would be better for her to marry early and use the bride price to support the younger siblings. Her father found this reasoning sound, while Meiyun cried and pleaded all night.
The next day, with red eyes, she promised to cover her tuition fees herself and send money home every month. Only then did the stepmother reluctantly agree. She thought she could complete her university education smoothly. However, during her sophomore year, her younger brother got engaged but they couldn't afford the bride price for the girl's family. The family then planned to take action against her.
The stepmother falsely claimed that they were holding a banquet for the brother's engagement to lure Meiyun back home. To her shock, her father married her off to a bachelor in exchange for ten thousand in bride price. Meiyun completely broke down. She knelt before her father, pleading, "Dad, please let me go. I won't go to university anymore; I'll work outside and earn money for you, okay?"
Her father slapped Meiyun across the face and said, "If you leave, how will our family survive?"
Meiyun was in tears. "Dad, you used to care for me so much. Why have you changed like this?"
Her father turned his head away, feeling guilty. "That was then, and this is now."
Meiyun cried as she was brought over by several elders from the village. She knelt on the ground, repeatedly bowing her head to Wang Wancai. "Please, let me go. I promise I will earn money to repay you. I'm begging you."
Wang Wancai chuckled as he pulled her up. "Little girl, stop crying. From now on, I am your man, and I will treat you well."
Meiyun cried even harder and struggled to run away. Unfortunately, she didn't get far before her family dragged her back.
Her father tried to persuade her. "Stop making a fuss. You are already Wang Wancai's wife; just live with him peacefully."
Overwhelmed with despair, Meiyun broke down in tears as Wang Wancai carried her into the house. That night, she was forced into a relationship with him.
Her body was severely torn, bleeding profusely; both her physical and mental state were devastated. She attempted to escape multiple times, but each time she was caught and beaten mercilessly.
She fell into complete despair.

Meiyun was locked in a small room, her body dirty and disheveled, her mind in a daze.
Wang Wancai feared that she might take drastic measures and ruin his chances of having children. So he sought out the village women to brainwash her, telling her that all the women in the village had gone through this.
In her breakdown, she nodded and accepted her fate, hoping that life would improve a little.
Unfortunately, a year passed without any signs of change in her condition.
Wang Wancai grew anxious and grabbed her by the hair, beating her furiously. "Damn it! Have you been fooling around with other men? Why haven't you gotten pregnant after a year?"
She dared not resist and could only curl up in a corner, crying as she hugged her head.
Wang Wancai took Meiyun to the hospital for an examination, and the results showed that she had no issues at all. Wang Wancai refused to accept the reality that he could not have children. He was relentless, searching everywhere for a concubine, while Meiyun consumed medicine like it was her daily meal. But everything was in vain.
