"Anxin, how did you end up here? Is something wrong?"
The dark robes fluttered silently as Jun Chong flicked his sleeve, attempting to reach for me. Instinctively, I stepped back, clutching the Hairpin tightly. "Who are you?"
Jun Chong frowned. "Don't tell me you don't recognize me?"
"I know you've transformed into Jun Chong, but don't think you can deceive me. Jun Chong isn't here; how could you possibly appear before me? Who are you really, and why are you pretending to be him?"
I wanted to believe he was Jun Chong, especially after catching that fleeting glimpse of him earlier. But the Hairpin was glowing—still that yellow light—and this place couldn't possibly be Tianshan, so he couldn't be Jun Chong.
"I warn you, if you don't change back, I won't hold back!"
A smirk played on Jun Chong's lips as he crossed his arms over his chest, watching me with a light laugh. He raised an eyebrow. "What will you do if I don't?"
"I—" I hesitated. It was absolutely impossible for me to act against Jun Chong, but he wasn't really him. I found myself at a loss for words. However, Jun Chong had once said that one must never show weakness in front of an enemy. I gripped the Hairpin tightly; at that moment, its glow intensified. A surge of confidence filled me as I lifted my chin. "Then you'll see what happens!"
With that, I lunged forward and thrust the Hairpin at him without mercy. Yet he didn't move, still smiling at me with that same expression. I was stunned when the Hairpin pierced his body and seemed to be absorbed entirely.
No, it wasn't the sensation of piercing flesh; it felt like it was being swallowed whole.
"Who... who are you?" I tried to pull the Hairpin out, but it wouldn't budge. His hand grasped mine tightly around the waist, pulling me closer into his embrace. The scent of a man enveloped me, cool and refreshing, causing my heart to race. "Let go of me."
"I won't."
"What do you want?"
Panic surged within me as he looked at me playfully. If this continued, I felt I would be in serious trouble. Just as I prepared to kick him where it hurt, a sudden chill swept over my lips—a soft, cool breath accompanied by a familiar kiss overwhelmed my senses and halted my thoughts.
I froze.
"Are you dumb or just dazed? Or are you looking for a way to end it all?" Jun Chong chuckled, placing the hairpin back at my left waist. He reached out and pinched my cheek, nodding in satisfaction. "Not bad, I haven't lost weight after three days of travel. I'm glad to see you've been eating well."
"Jun, is that really you?" I blinked at him, my expression blank.
"Who else would it be?" Jun Chong playfully nipped at the tip of my nose, applying a bit of pressure. "While it's commendable that you can defend yourself in tough situations, it's concerning that you didn't even recognize your own husband. Have I not done enough? You need to be punished."
I didn't quite catch what he said next; my eyes widened as tears began to flow down my cheeks. I threw my arms around his neck and cried loudly.
"Jun Chong, I missed you so much! You've been gone for three days and I really want you back. I don't want to be apart from you. Boohoo, Jun Chong, boohoo..."
"Don't cry like a mournful ghost; I'm right here, aren't I?"
His words snapped me back to reality as he held me and wiped away my tears. Blinking through my watery eyes, I asked, "Aren't you in Tianshan? How did you end up here? Where is this place? I was just in the living room."
"I was in Tianshan. This is the Voidless Realm. When your soul left your body, I sensed it and brought you here. Don't worry; it's very safe here."
Jun Chong found a spot to sit with me, and I suddenly noticed greenery surrounding us. We were sitting under a large Cherry Blossom Tree, with pink petals dancing in the air and a faint fragrance wafting around us.
"How did this happen?"
"Even though this is the Voidless Realm, I can create whatever I need with my thoughts." Jun Chong plucked a petal from my hair and lifted my chin with one hand, narrowing his eyes slightly. "Tell me, did you disobey me and get involved with those things again?"
I stuck out my tongue and recounted everything that had happened over the past few days. Finally, I said, "I don't know why it happened like that; there was just a flash of light above my head and then this happened. We were trying to find a way to save Ling Feng!"
Jun Chong remained silent after hearing this, his beautiful brows furrowing deeply as he stared at me expressionlessly. I knew he was getting angry again and lowered my head. "I know you don't like me getting involved with those things, but there's nothing I can do! Ever since I met you, I've been entangled with them nonstop. It's not my fault; if I don't seek them out, they will naturally come looking for me."
Unexpectedly, Jun Chong raised an eyebrow and his gaze turned sharp as he pinched my cheek, his tone displeased. "Are you saying it's all my fault?"
"Of course—" I laughed as I looked up at him and gave him a playful kiss on the cheek. "Just kidding!"
"That's more like it." Jun Chong finally let me go, his long fingers slipping through mine, intertwining our hands. I noticed how stunning his fingers were—delicate and fair, almost ethereal.
"The matter you mentioned isn't difficult; with Molin's abilities, it can be handled. What worries me more is that this may not be the work of a ghost."
"You mean there's human involvement?"
"Yes," Jun Chong explained. "As you said, most people pay with money to log in, while only a few exchange other things. What use do ghosts have for money? It's only valuable to humans. Also, has Molin checked the deceased's birth chart? The birth chart is crucial for both humans and ghosts. There must be a reason why certain individuals were chosen; otherwise, there wouldn't just be a handful of deaths."
After Jun Chong's analysis, I felt clarity wash over me. I struggled to get up from him, eager to return and inform Molin so that we could resolve this matter quickly and ensure Ling Feng's safety.
However, Jun Chong pinched my waist and pulled me back into his embrace. "Where are you rushing off to?"
"I'm going back to tell Molin about this!"
"What's the hurry? Time here is the same as outside. It's still not bedtime even if it's past midnight. Don't you want to stay with me a little longer? I've been out in the wind and frost on Tianshan for three days; don't you miss me?"
Seeing the sorrowful look on Jun Chong's face, something suddenly flashed in my mind. I pulled his hand down and started checking his body, lifting his clothes and examining his arms, face, and legs. Once I confirmed he wasn't injured, I let out a sigh of relief.
"Thank goodness you're not hurt. If you ever get injured, you must tell me so I can feed you my blood to help heal you."
Jun Chong narrowed his eyes slightly, the dense lashes casting shadows on his eyelids as he spoke softly, "There's one place that's hurt."
"Where?"
I panicked at his words, grabbing at his clothes and searching frantically. His dark robe was nearly in tatters from my handling, hanging loosely on him and exposing much of his shoulder.
Jun Chong took my hand and guided it down to where it hurt, a teasing smile playing on his lips. "Here."
As my palm touched the warm hardness beneath, my face flushed instantly. I instinctively tried to pull my hand back but he held it firmly in place. His cool breath brushed against my ear, sending shivers down my spine.
"You said you would help me heal, didn't you? I've been hurt here for a long time. The time and place tonight are just right, so why not—"
The rest of my words were swallowed by a kiss. Jun Chong's hands restrained my movements, his touch gentle yet impatient, every action stirring my heart into a wild rhythm.
As my clothes slipped away, I felt a rush of cool air against my skin. Instinctively, I wanted to pull back, but Jun Chong held me tighter in his embrace.
"Don't move, relax your body."
His voice, deep and husky, was the most enchanting spell at that moment, reaching into my soul and occupying my heart.
I knew this day would come eventually, but I never expected it to be today, in such a special place. As our souls intertwined beyond our bodies, it marked the beginning of something new.
I wasn't sure if it would hurt to connect on such a level, but when he entered me, I arched my back instinctively, my nails digging into his flesh as I fought to endure the sensation.
"Just relax; it will be over soon."
Jun Chong lowered his head to catch my tears with his lips. His gentle kisses felt like the lightest touch of a dragonfly or the caress of feathers—ticklish yet too precious to brush away.
A silent wind approached slowly from an unseen place. When it touched the Cherry Blossom Tree, it made a soft rustling sound, shaking loose more petals that danced down with the breeze, lightly covering us both.
The contrast of my pale skin against the pink blossoms created a unique beauty.
A chill that didn't belong to me seeped into my body, gradually spreading throughout. I trembled and leaned heavily against Jun Chong, feeling utterly exhausted.
Jun Chong's wide robe enveloped us both as he held me against the Cherry Blossom Tree, gently stroking my cheek. "Are you tired?"
"Mm." I could barely manage to whisper. The sound reminded me of earlier, making me wish for a hole to hide in from embarrassment.
"You're this tired after just two times? It seems I'll have to train you well when we get back; otherwise, where will our future happiness come from?"
"You—" I pouted and ignored him.
Jun Chong smiled, patting my head. "If you're tired, just take a nap. I'll take you back later."
"Are you still going to Tianshan?" I looked up at him, a bit worried. "Have you found anything after three days? If not, why not just come back?"
"No." Jun Chong looked at me with a smile, but his tone was very firm. "I can't let you die. So I must find it. But don't worry, I will come back safe and sound. I promise I'll be back on the tenth day."
I knew he was doing this for me. Looking at him, I realized that if opposing him would have worked, he wouldn't have left in the first place. I could only nod in agreement. "Just be careful. Or should I give you some of my blood to take with you? It might come in handy if you get hurt."
"Just knowing you care is enough for me." Jun Chong suddenly raised his hand, and with his sharp nails, he made a cut on his wrist, red blood flowing out. I was startled and immediately tried to stop the bleeding, but he held my hand back. "Drinking this blood will be beneficial for you."
"What—mm!"
Before I could finish my sentence, Jun Chong positioned the wound towards my mouth, and suddenly the blood seemed to have a life of its own as it flowed into my throat. His face paled slightly.
Once he stopped forcing me to drink his blood, I glared at him in concern. "What are you doing?"
"Don't be angry." Jun Chong gently stroked my hair and explained, "This is to protect you. Once we are bonded, you'll carry more of my dark energy, which will make most spirits avoid you. Drinking my blood proves your identity to others; when you encounter spirits in the future, they will recognize you and it will help you. Even if I'm not around, there will be someone to protect you."
I was taken aback by his words as Jun Chong leaned down and bit my lip. "Anxin, remember that you are my woman, which means you represent me. If anyone dares to defy that, you can deal with them as you wish."
I was momentarily stunned by his words; there was a heavy killing intent in his final statement, darkness swallowing most of his emotions in his gaze. But before I could think further, drowsiness unexpectedly washed over me.
